How does Jesus show us a different way of being
human?
The Most Famous Story Jesus Told ~ Luke 10:25-37 ~
And behold, a lawyer stood up
Luke 10:25
to put him to the test, saying,“Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
He said to him, “What is written in
Luke 10:26
the Law? How do you read it?”
And he answered, “You shall love
Luke 10:27
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and withall your strength and with all yourmind, and your neighbor as your-self.”
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your might.”
~ Deuteronomy 6:4-5
“You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own
people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the
Lord.”
~ Leviticus 19:18
And he said to him, “You have
Luke 10:28
answered correctly; do thisand you will live.”
“Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to
those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be
stopped, and the whole world may be held account-able to God. For by works of the law no human being will
be justified in his sight, since through the law comes
knowledge of sin.”
~ The Apostle Paul in Romans 3:19-20
But he, desiring to justify himself,
Luke 10:29
said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
Jesus replied, “A man was going
Luke 10:30-31
down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.
going down that road, and when
Luke 10:31-32
he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the otherside….
“Now by chance a priest was
“But a Samaritan, as he journeyed,
Luke 10:33-34
came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up hiswounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal
“…and brought him to an inn and
Luke 10:34-35
took care of him. And the next dayhe took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatevermore you spend, I will repay you when I come back….’
“Which of these three do you think
Luke 10:36
proved to be a neighbor to theman who fell among the robbers?”He said, “The one who showed himmercy.” And Jesus said to him, “Yougo, and do likewise.”
Jesus calls us to love others in ways that are costly because a neighbor is something we are
not something that we have.

Get the facts straight.
1
“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ
died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person
one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
~ The Apostle Paul in Romans 5:6-10
“Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his
blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while
we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be
saved by his life.”
~ The Apostle Paul in Romans 5:6-10

cannot perform so that we may know what we ought to request from him.”
