JUNE / JULY 2016

Summer Drop In For Prayer Beginning Tuesday, June 7, Come As You Are

for prayer anytime from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.

This opportunity for quiet time with God will continue weekly through August 30, with the exception of July 5. The Sanctuary will be open during that time for personal and private prayer. You are free to come and go as you need to.

Tuesday, July 12 will be devoted to prayers for our youth and adult leaders who will be going on their mission trip to Belize. Individual prayer centers will be set up for each member of the team. Plan to come and pray for the youth and their specific mission trip prayer requests. Help send them off on their trip with a foundation of prayer.

After coming to the Sanctuary for prayer, plan to attend the Psalms Bible Study (see information below) or go to the Stretch and Strengthening Class at 6:30 pm or the Singles Ministry Group (see page 6 for more info).

Beginning Tuesday, June 7 @ 6:30 pm @ FiC In this 12-week study, we will cover main themes and significant connections to Christ. The study gives an overview of the text before digging into it with a series of questions for reflection and discussion. Each unit concludes by highlighting the gospel of grace, as well as a section for reflecting on personal and practical implications. Come join us each Tuesday night over the summer (no meeting the week of July 4th). If you can’t make every week, come as your schedule allows.

Please sign up in the Great Room at the Sign-Up table or [email protected]. ($10 for workbooks)

A Special Prayer Request - Please Pray for our Youth

From July 11-16, eleven of our students will be headed to Colorado Christian University for ―Lead the Cause‖ Camp. July 23-29, 12 students will be going to Belize for a mission trip.

(see the above article on prayer for a special time to pray for our Youth Mission Team on July 12)

Doing ―Out‖ Can Look Like . . .

The Table The sign says: ―This is more than a Yard Garden: F i n d Gr a c e a m on g N e i g h b or s a t DenverTable.org.‖

On May 21, one of the first beautiful Saturdays of the season, five members of the Homeward Bound Life Group and three students from the Denver School of Nursing, along with a few younger helpers, joined up with Jeanine Broek of The Table to plant two urban gardens. We learned a lot about prepping new areas for planting and more about this wonderful ministry that is building relationships in the south part of Denver.

Throughout the year, especially during the growing season, help is always appreciated. Weeding, replanting (after hail storms), and harvesting are ongoing. Please check out the website: denvertable.org. Great work for God’s kingdom is being done and you can be a part of it.

Operation Christmas Child

This year's kick off will be August 7. We invite you to begin collecting items now for this important outreach ministry to children in 3rd world countries. We will be collecting items such as socks, gloves, underwear,

school supplies, hygiene products (no liquids), small toys and very small stuffed animals and plastic shoe boxes. A complete list will be available at the Welcome Center. There will be a drop off box in the children's wing each week between June and November and at the main entrances on the 4th weekends of those months. Watch the August Newsletter and bulletin for more details or call Sheila (303-465-3634).

Knitters and Sewers Operation Christmas Child is in need of knitted hats and pillow cases (they don't have to be new). The pillow cases will be turned into dresses for young girls and placed in the shoe boxes. There is a pattern available to make these simple dresses. These items can be placed in the OCC collection boxes. Questions? Call Sheila (303-465-3634)

Garage Sale Our annual Garage Sale will be Saturday, September 10 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm in the church parking lot. As you go through your usable, but unwanted, items this summer, please save them for this sale. The money raised will be used for our Operation Christmas Child project. Watch for details in the August Newsletter on when you can bring your items in.

Annual School Supplies Drive

In July, Growing Home collects school supplies for children in local needy families and distributes them in August. You can help by contributing supplies, donating funds and volunteering at GH to give these supplies to children. You can help these kids get a strong start in school. In 2015, supplies and backpacks were given to 1,310 students! Donations can be dropped off at Growing Home. More info is at FIC Outreach Booth and GH web page (GrowingHome.org). Supplies include:

Backpacks Binders Folders Notebooks Paper Crayons

Pencils Black/Blue/Red pens Colored Pencils Highlighters Glue sticks

Gospel Journey Maui: Catalytic questions, raw discussions, unexpected twists, all in the island setting of Maui. This unscripted reality series captures seven young strangers from diverse worldviews wrestling through some of the greatest questions of life. Each day, a new question was introduced by “the Preacher Man,” Greg Stier, triggering intense spiritual dialogue and a tidal wave of emotions. The 9 episodes address the following spiritual questions:

1. Is there a higher power?

2. What is the purpose of life? Part 1

3. What is the purpose of life? Part 2

4. Why are there so many religions and can they all

be right?

5. Is it religion or relationship?

6. Why do bad things happen?

7. What happens after we die?

8. Who is Jesus?

9. What is Jesus' message?

If you are new to Family in Christ, you might want to know about baptism. Baptism is available to individuals upon their profession of faith in Jesus Christ, as well as to children of parents who are members of our congregation.

The baptism of infants witnesses to the truth that God’s love claims us even before we are able to respond in faith. Parents wanting to preserve baptism for the time of their child’s personal profession of faith in Christ may present their young children for dedication.

Baptisms and dedications are part of the worship experience at Family in Christ and are administered during our weekend worship services. The mode of adult baptism—either by immersion or aspersion (sprinkling)—is the choice of each individual.

If you would like to know more about baptism, please contact Pastor Paul.

Greeter / Usher Ministry

The Greeter/Usher Ministry involves choosing one of the services each month, arriving 15 or so minutes before the service, being assigned a position by an entrance to greet people and shake their hand or by a Sanctuary door to greet and hand out bulletins; then assist in passing the plates during offering and Communion elements on the first weekends. It’s really that simple.

The big impact comes from your friendly face and welcoming spirit towards people who may be new to the church, new to Christ, or just wandering in from the community around our church. You would be surprised at how the Lord works with just that welcoming smile in people’s lives.

If you would be willing to become a part of our little family within Family in Christ, or if you have questions regarding this ministry, please contact Linda Kurtzberg.
