Reflection + Response: Reader: Scripture is the story of a good creation going bad, due to human rebellion, and of a God diligently working to put his creation back to rights. Putting the world to rights is the agenda of the Gospel. Something that God has already begun through his covenant with Israel to bring a Messiah, Jesus Christ, into the world; and something He will consummate when Christ returns and renews all things. Reflection + Response: Reader:

Scripture is the story of a good creation going bad, due to human rebellion, and of a God diligently working to put his creation back to rights. Putting the world to rights is the agenda of the Gospel. Something that God has already begun through his covenant with Israel to bring a Messiah, Jesus Christ, into the world; and something He will  consummate  when Christ returns and renews all things. In the meantime, as we eagerly await this great renewal, there is a right way to live, just as there always will be. May we have eyes to see the truth of God's right way found within His Law; and may His Law teach us to courageously live in the way of love.

People: Lord, may it be.

Today’s Scripture Reading: Reader:

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind;’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

Luke 10:25-28

People: May the Lord add his blessing to the reading, hearing, and doing of His holy Word.

Benediction: Pastor:

Grace + peace to all of you…

People: …and to you as well.

CG Discussion Questions For the Week of November 23rd - 29th

" "Here are this week’s discussion questions based on the Nov. 23rd sermon, The Law of God: A Love Story.

We invite you to work through these questions and text on your own and/or with a friend; and we also hope you connect with a Community Group to go through them with others. Remember, God’s Word gives us spiritual vitality and his Word is always best understood within community (i.e., with others). So, this week, come to Community Group ready discuss these questions and texts. And if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask — [email protected].

1. What is law? When you think of the word “law” what comes to mind? 2. Read Genesis 1:28-30 + 2:15-17. Where do you see law given here in this text? Why

would God give a law in a perfect world (a world without sin)? What does this teach us or reveal to us about law? Do you think there will be law in the New Heavens and New Earth?

3. Read Exodus 20:1-17. What does the Ten Commandments teach us about God? What do they teach us about us?

4. On Sunday’s message, John spoke of the law given to the Israelites at Mt. Sinai as marriage vows. How were the 10 Commandments (and the law as a whole) like marriage vows?

5. Read Jeremiah 3:6-10. If covenant with God is a marriage, then breaking his law is adultery. How does this understanding of sin affect you? In what ways do we deny God the fidelity and intimacy her longs for from us?

6. Consider Genesis 3:8-10. In what ways do we hide from God? Why do we hide from God?

7. Read Luke 10:25-37. What is the purpose of God’s law? Who is your neighbor? 8. How does the Law of God point us to the Gospel of Jesus and his Kingdom?
