What Does God Require Of Me?


Matthew 25:14-30(NKJV) 14“For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

What Does God Require Of Me?20“So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’

What Does God Require Of Me?23His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 24“Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ 26“But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.

What Does God Require Of Me?27So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. 29‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’


A “talent” is a large sum of money (about 6,000 day’s wages or up to 24 years’ wages.

It could be anywhere from $576,000 to $720,000 per talent (if we compare it to today’s average wages).


God gives us each something He wants us to use for Him - 14

Luke 12:42-53(NKJV) 42And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? 43Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 44Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. 45But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk,

What Does God Require Of Me?46the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

What Does God Require Of Me?49“I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! 51Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. 52For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.

53Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

What Does God Require Of Me?Things the Lord has given us to use for His glory:

His Son for a sacrifice for our sins

His Spirit for our guidance and help

His Gospel to share with the lost world


1 Corinthians 12:1-11(NKJV) 1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. 4There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

What Does God Require Of Me?7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

There are many different gifts we can have and use – 4





All these work together for Him – 5






He is in charge (not the ones with the gifts) – 6

It is all for and by Him – 7-11


When we look at all this…

God has gifts and blessings available for all of us

God expects us to use them for His work

Musical abilities?Singing?Writing?Story telling?Teaching?Preaching?Witnessing?Godly living?Kindness?Helps?Friendship?Money?Hospitality?


What about your resources God has given you?

Time?Do you use your time for God?

Abilities?Do you use your ability for Him?

Finances?Do you use your finances for God?


I am going to tell you that you do need to be

doing (something) for God!


God has given us all to use:

The message of the Gospel

The guidance of the Holy Spirit

The power of the cross

The sufficiency of His sacrifice for the whole world

The greatness of the love of God


Who might you reach for the Lord if you use what God has given you?

Family

Friends

Neighbors

Strangers


It does not hurt to ask Him to help you!

Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
