Scalp hair is the only source

recommended for analysis. Pubic andother body hair is suggested only for

the confirmation of elevated toxicmetals and/or to rule out externalcontamination of the scalp hair.

The collected specimen should beuntreated, i.e. not permed, dyed orbleached. If the hair has beenchemically treated, wait until sufficientnew virgin growth has emerged to allowcollection. The hair should also be freeof gels, oils and hair creams prior tosample collection. For those individualsenvironmentally and/or occupationallyexposed to external contaminants,(welding, mining, etc.) special careshould be taken to limit exposurebetween washing of the hair and thecollection of the sample.

Each collected sample should be takenin small portions from at least four or

five different locations of the scalp. Therecommended areas for collection arethe nape of the neck, posterior vertex

and posterior temporal regions.

Using high-grade stainless steel scissorsor thinning shears, cut the hair as closeto the scalp as possible. The samplelength should not exceed one and one-

half inches. Retain the proximal portion(one and one-half inches closest to theroot) and discard the excess.

120 milligrams (0.12 g) is requested for

a complete test panel. Hair specimens

that do not meet the minimum weight

requirement will be marked as QNS

(Quantity Not Sufficient) and held for

doctor notification.

Note: Use of the TEI Hair Weight Scale

card will ensure the collection of

sufficient sample weight.

Any one of the following conditions will

cause a sample to be delayed or

rejected for laboratory processing:

Hair specimen exposed to

staples, paper clips, adhesive

tape, aluminum foil and other

metal materials;

Hair specimen enclosed in

unapproved plastic bags;

Hair specimen not accompanied

by a TEI submittal form, completed

in its entirety and signed by a

healthcare professional.

Please refer to specific submittal and

collection procedure forms for directions

and requirements to obtain proper canine,

equine and water samples.

Statements are sent on the 1st of

month. Statements are due

and payable upon receipt. Any

account over 30 days past due may

be charged at the rate of 1 percent

($3.50 minimum service charge) per

month (12 percent per annum). Any

further orders must be prepaid, or

will be sent C.O.D. until account is

brought up to date. Trace Elements,

Inc. has an established client credit

limit of $1200.00

Sufficient credit on account

or payment by either check,

money order or credit card

included with sample and test

request form. (Credit card

payment requires authorization

form to be on file with TEI.)
