JoeMannAwardOnemaleandonefemaleseniorathleteperseason.Allaroundexemplaryathletes,studentsandcitizens.Invaluabletotheircoaches,excellentrolemodelstotheirteam.JoeMannwasa1946Sequoiagraduatewhoattendedeveryfootballgameuntilhisdeathin2003.JoeawardedthistrophytoonemaleseniorathleteforVarsityFootballandVarsityBaseballeachyear.AfterhisdeaththeBoosterClubdecidedtocontinuethisawardinhismemoryandgiveittoonemaleandonefemaleseniorathleteeachseason.AdamGuidaMemorialPrideAwardOneVarsityfootballplayerwhoexemplifiesthecourageandpridethatAdamhadduringhisyearsatSequoia.GaryBebanAwardVarsityFootballMostValuablePlayerBeban,knownas"TheGreatOne",excelledinbothacademicsandathletics,majoringinEuropeanhistorywhilequarterbackingtheUCLABruinstothreestraightvictoriousseasons.AsUCLAquarterback,hewasnamedtotheall-conferenceteamthreetimes.Inthe1966RoseBowl,BebanscoredbothUCLA'stouchdownsintheBruin's14-12victoryover#1rankedMichiganState.Inhissenioryear,Bebanplayedinthe1967USCvsUCLAfootballgame,widelyregardedasoneofthebestcollegefootballgamesofalltime.Thegamepitted#4AP/#2UPIrankedUSCandtheirHeismanTrophy-candidaterunningbackO.J.Simpson,againstthe#1BruinsandBeban--alsoaHeismanTrophycandidate--withNationalchampionshipontheline.Badlyinjuredwithbruisedribsandingreatpain,Bebanthrewforover300yardsandtwotouchdownpassestoleadtheBruinsinscoring.ThoughUSCeventuallywonthegame,21-20,bythemarginofablockedPointAfterTouchdownattempt,andwentontotheRoseBowl,GaryBebanwouldgoontowintheHeismanTrophy.BothBebanandSimpsonwerefeaturedonthecoverofSportsIllustratedmagazine.CommentingonBeban'sheroiceffortplayingthroughinjury,FamedL.A.TimescolumnistJimMurraywrotethatif"GaryBebanwinstheHeismanTrophy,theyoughttofillitwithaspirin".Inadditiontothe'67Heisman,BebanwasunanimouslynamedtotheAll-AmericaTeam,wontheMaxwellTrophy(givenannuallytothecollegefootballplayerjudgedbestintheUnitedStatesbyacommitteeofcollegeheadcoaches,sportscasters,sportswriters,andmembersoftheMaxwellFootballClub),andwasawardedtheWashingtonTouchdownClubTrophyandthe1967W.J.VoitMemorialTrophyastheoutstandingfootballplayeronthePacificCoast.BebanwasalsonamedaNationalFootballFoundationScholar-Athlete,andreceivedtheDollyCohenaward,giventotheplayerbestcombiningacademicandfootballachievement.In1991,BebanwasinductedintotheRoseBowlHallofFame.
