    An

    Indian Oil Corporation, or IndianOil, is an

    Indian public-sectorpetroleumcompany. It isIndias largestcommercial enterprise, ranking 105th on theFortune Globa500list in 2009. IndianOil and its subsidiaries account for a47% share in the petroleum products market, 40% share inrefining capacity and 67% downstream sector pipelinescapacity in India. The Indian Oil Group of Companies ownsand operates 10 of India's 19 refineries with a combinedrefining capacity of 60.2 million metric tons per year.

    IndianOil operates the largest and the widest

    network of fuel stations in the country, numbering about17606 (15557 regular ROs & 2049 Kissan Sewa Kendra). Ithas also started Auto LPG Dispensing Stations (ALDS). ItsuppliesIndanecooking gas to over 47.5 million householdsthrough a network of 4,990 Indian distributors. In addition,

    [edit]Refineries

    Digboi Refinery, in Upper Assam, is India's oldestrefinery and was commissioned in 1901. Originally a partof Assam Oil Company, it became part of IndianOil in

    1981. Its original refining capacity had been 0.5 MMTPAsince 1901. Modernisation project of this refinery hasbeen completed and the refinery now has an increasedcapacity of 0.65 MMTPA.

    Guwahati Refinery, the first public sector refinery of thecountry, was built with Romanian collaboration and wasinaugurated by Late Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru, the first PrimeMinister of India, on 1 January 1962.

    Barauni Refinery, in Bihar, was built in collaboration wit

    Russia and Romania. It was commissioned in 1964 with acapacity of 1 MMTPA. Its capacity today is 6 MMTPA.

    Gujarat Refinery, at Koyali in Gujarat in Western India, iIndianOils largest refinery. The refinery wascommissioned in 1965. It also houses the firsthydrocracking unit of the country. Its present capacity is13.70 MMTPA.

    Haldia Refinery is the only coastal refinery of theCorporation, situated 136km downstream of Kolkata inthe Purba Medinipur (East Midnapore) district. It wascommissioned in 1975 with a capacity of 2.5 MMTPA,which has since been increased to 5.8 MMTPA

    Mathura Refinery was commissioned in 1982 as thesixth refinery in the fold of IndianOil and with an originalcapacity of 6.0 MMTPA. Located strategically between thehistoric cities of Delhi and Agra, the capacity of Mathurarefinery was increased to 7.5 MMTPA.

    Panipat Refinery is the seventh refinery of IndianOil. The

    original refinery with 6 MMTPA capacity was built andcommissioned in 1998. Panipat Refinery has doubled itsrefining capacity from 6 MMT/yr to 12 MMTPA with thecommissioning of its Expansion Project.

    Project Cost: Rs. 29,777.00 croreExpected Commissioning: March-November,2012Benefit: The project will help in partiallymeeting the deficit in distillates viz. LPG,Naphtha, MS, Jet/Kero, Diesel and otherproducts, in the eastern part of the country.The complex will generate intermediatepetrochemicals feedstock.Brief Description: A 15 MMTPA refinery is beingconstructed at Paradip in Orissa. The refinerywill have, apart from a Crude and VacuumDistillation Unit, a Hydrocracking Unit, a

    Delayed Coker Unit and other secondaryprocessing facilities. This will be the mostmodern refinery in India with a nil-residueproduction, and the products would meetstringent specifications. IndianOil has taken

It will ensure compliance to productquality requirement of MS/HSD to EURO-III/IVlevels, enable processing of increased quantityof high sulphur crude, and improvement indistillate yield.Brief Description: The project envisages settingup of a number of units like VGO-HDT, ATF-

    Merox, FCC-Merox, LPG-Merox, ISOM, Coker,DHDT, HGU (PDS) and SRU.

    IMPROVEMENT IN DIESEL QUALITY ANDCAPACITY EXPANSION AT HALDIAREFINERY (WEST BENGAL)

    Project Cost: Rs. 2,869.00 croreExpected Commissioning: January, 2010

    Benefit: Improvement in quality of HSDconforming to Euro-II/Euro-IV equivalent norms.In addition, it will improve the distillate yield

    and crude processing capacity of the refinery.Brief Description: The project comprisesinstallation of facilities for improvement inDiesel quality and Distillate yield(Hydrocracker) at Haldia, and capacityexpansion of the Refinery from 6 MMTPA to 7.5MMTPA. This involves Once-throughHydrocracking Unit (OHCU), Hydrogen Unit,Sulphur Recovery Units, revamp of CrudeDistillation Units, related utilities and offsitefacilities.

    NAPHTHA CRACKER AND POLYMERCOMPLEX AT PANIPAT (HARYANA)

    Project Cost: Rs. 14,439.00 crore

    Expected Commissioning: February, 2010Benefit: This project is the cornerstone forIndianOil's entry into petrochemicals therebycreating a new business line for growth. For thestate of Haryana, this project shall lay thefoundation for creation of a world-classpetrochemicals hub, which will engender

    significant industrial activity in the comingyears.Brief Description: The project envisages settingup of a Naphtha Cracker based on captiveutilisation of naphtha from Panipat, Mathura

    and Koyali refineries of IndianOil. With acapacity of 800,000 MT/year of ethyleneproduction, the Cracker Complex will have
