NEWS & EVENTS

2014 TOURNAMENTS

Red, White & BlueOur ninth annual Red, White & Blue Tournament was held on Thursday, June 12. Each 4 person team chose which members would play the Red, White & Blue ball on the Par 3 and Par 5 holes and the remaining three players played a 3 person scramble with both scores counting in their total score. The remaining par 4 holes were played as a 4 person scramble for a total 18 hole score. The committee determined each team’s handicap.

The winning team was Kaye Lewis, Leanne Casey, Lisa Rush and Touk Varney of Victoria Bryant, Chicopee Woods, and Stone Mountain. The second place team was Elizabeth Stauffer, Linda Barrett, Joyce Stephens and Carmen Hensley from Royal Lakes, Chattahoochee and Monroe. The third place team came from our own Cateechee members, Ruth Anne Maciag, Jan Heithaus, Jane Meriam and Jan Schultz!

We all appreciate the work of our chairs Audrey Burke and Jean Kidd as well as their support group of Tammy Hutchinson, Tia Athens, Jo Fritsch, Jan Schultz, Bonne Olsen and Chris Rosenbloom. They made the tournament successful and special.

Match Play Tournament

Our Match Play tournament began April 21 with two brackets of eight players each. The upper bracket participants were Jeanine Douglas, Tammy Hutchinson, Audrey Burke, Sarah Hutton, Jean Kidd, Ellen Brothers, Candy Taylor and Ruth Anne Macaig. The lower bracket included Kathy Heriford, Jan Schultz, Gena Cauthen, Ruth Roosenberg, Annette Holland, Janet Latone, Katherine Reusing and Camile Caballero. Full handicap was given between opponents in each match.

On July 7, Candy Taylor and Kathy Heriford met in the final match. Candy Taylor won the match and has become the first Ladies Match Play Champion at Cateechee. Her name is engraved on the plaque in the hall of winners in the clubhouse.

Moonlight Madness Our two person glow ball scramble tournament scheduled for August 9 had to be cancelled due to inclement weather and was rescheduled for Saturday, August 16. We will have the results and pictures in the next issue.

Punkin’ Open | October 22This is a two-person member team event in which teams are paired by handicaps. This event gives all of our CLGA members, both 18 and 9-hole players, a chance to play together. We will have a day of fun, crazy golf and celebrate heartily.

CHICKS & CROWSWe did not play during the months of July and August due to the high temperatures. Our upcoming events will be on Friday, September 19 and our Finale on Sunday, October 26. If you would like to play in the remaining events, please contact Marti Reckdenwald at [email protected].

CLGA INFOLadies of Cateechee, come and join us! We are players of all skill levels who enjoy the game, our course, our friends and a great, fun time. We would love to have you join us for play with our 9 hole, 18 hole, or evening play group. Contact Merilee Brister at [email protected] for further membership information.

MASON BOWERS, SENIOR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENTON THE GREEN

We have had an awesome summer here at Cateechee on our greens and at our amazing clubhouse! The bentgrass greens survived the summer season very well thanks to the dedication of our turf care team. The use of portable fans, careful disease management, and diligent hand watering during the extreme heat were important keys to the success of the greens and our ability to maintain optimum playing conditions throughout the summer months.

As the 2014 summer season comes to a close we are eagerly preparing for what fall has in store for Cateechee! The greens are scheduled to be aerated and top-dressed on September 29th and 30th. Once this is complete the bentgrass surface will be in excellent golfing condition soon after. The tees and fairways are to be over-seeded with winter ryegrass immediately following greens aeration. These areas will have to be irrigated throughout the day until germination and establishment are achieved. The result of this will be a wonderful playing surface and vibrant color around the course for all of our members and guests to enjoy!

Plans are also in place for our clubhouse grounds to be over-seeded as well as putting out fertilizer on all the trees and shrubs around the club. The annual planting of our fall flowers is scheduled for the month of October. The clay tennis courts have been prepped and groomed throughout the summer season and are in great playing condition. The coming fall weather is a great time to come out and enjoy all the amenities at the club!

As always thank you for supporting Cateechee Golf Club!

Fall is in the air.

It’s time to enjoy

football and other

autumn activities. Of

course, the cooler

temperatures are

great for golf and

tennis too. Our Director of Golf has

some activities and events planned so

that you can enjoy the course more

during the better weather. The golf

course is in great shape due partly to a

milder summer but mostly due to the

hard work and dedication of the turf

care team. We have a new menu in the

Waterfall Grille. Come out and taste the

chef’s new selections. The Food and

Beverage Director has some seasonal

events planned for fall. Read through the

newsletter to find out dates and details.

We have tried a lot of events and

activities during the spring and summer.

Some had to be cancelled due to lack

of interest. Weather was a factor at

times or maybe a conflict with vacation

schedules. It could also be that we are

not planning the type of events that you

are interested in. Please contact me or

any of our department heads with ideas

about functions you would be interested

in attending. We desperately need your

participation at the club and want your

input.

See you at the Club!

- Buck
