MIDA Business Meeting Minutes

Saturday, August 1, 2015

President, Edith Martin: Edith called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. A motion was made to

approve last meeting minutes; they were approved. The Treasurer’s report will be corrected to show a positive balance

to date of $1,812.16 instead of a negative figure of the same amount. This will be done by Gail Routt, Newsletter Editor.

1st Vice President, Mary Erwin: Mary asked that everyone sign up for the upcoming classes. Gloria will teach an

In-House seminar on September 5th; Ruby will teach after the meeting in October. November will be a free 2-day

seminar with Arlee Jenkins. Saturday will be a cabin and Sunday will be poppies.

2nd Vice President – Angie Erwin: Angie handed out an updated membership list for the club.

Treasurer, Linda Payne: Not present.

Secretary, Brenda King: Nothing to report.

Newsletter Editor, Gail Routt: The deadline for the newsletter information is August 31st. Also, Gail advised of the

possibility for the club to do a show at the Habersham Farm Bureau office. We could display and sell items, have

demonstrations and make a donation to a local charity such as Circle of Hope. The facility will be offered free of charge

by the Farm Bureau as an event to get new members. After discussion it was decided we would be interested in doing

something in the Spring of 2016. Gail will contact the manager at Farm Bureau to firm up more details about the event

and report back in October.

Ways & Means, Lisa Copeland

Paint-In 2016: The theme for Paint-In will be “MIDA Camping” and will be held February 5, 6 & 7, 2016.

Hospitality, Georgiann Hicks: We will brown bag at the September seminar.

Librarian, Reginia Lee:

Community Service Donation:

MIDA CHAPTER Nominations for the 2016 Board

According to our bylaws the bios for nominations should be in member’s hands two weeks before

voting. We’ll vote on October 3rd. at our chapter meeting. We are looking forward to great attendance.

President, Edith Martin: It has been a pleasure to serve as your president for the last two years. I have enjoyed very much being a MIDA chapter member, and working with the board and committee members. I have served on the Board as a Treasurer for two years and as the Newsletter Editor for several more years. My husband David and I moved to Cumming, Ga. 12 years ago. Together, we have three daughters and four grandchildren. I’ve been painting off and on since 1998. I became a member of SDP in 2000 and have attended four conferences. In April of 2007 I retired from Equifax after 37 years of service. As a Director of Global Education I was responsible for managing the training function as well as the budget. If elected for the 2016 term, I will be honored to serve you and will continue to work hard for the chapter.

1st Vice President (Programs) Ann Jones: I was born in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and that is where I raised my two boys and one girl. In 2002 I moved to Bradenton, Florida, to be closer to my parents who are still with me and live in Ft. Myers, FL. I have five grandchildren in Virginia, and two older brothers, one in Florida and one in South Carolina. On November 16th, 2002 I married my husband and best friend Richard Jones on a beach on the Gulf of Mexico on Anna Marie Island. We came through Clarkesville, Georgia, several years ago and I said to him that I could live in a little town like this. We bought in August 2011 when Richard retired in December 2014 it was time for us to be near the mountains, so here we are. I started painting 11 years ago in a Monday-night class in the mobile home park we lived in. The teacher became a dear friend and because of her and my husband, I am a member of two chapters and SDP. My husband got with Marianne and sent in my papers which he also signed me up for The Gulf to Bay Decorative Artist Chapter for part of my Christmas in 2009. GBDA, where I was Hospitality for two years and Ways & Means for two years. I have worked in many different fields throughout my life and now my career is painting in my studio. I am honored to be a member of MIDA and would be honored to be an officer in the chapter and I will not let you down. 2nd Vice President (Membership), Angie Erwin: My husband Scotty and I have been married for 22 years. We have one 16 year old son, Jack who keeps us very busy volunteering with Boy Scouts of America and the Lumpkin County High School Band of Gold. I’ve been the Office Administrator for the Department of Mathematics at the University of North Georgia for 14 years. I am reasonably new to decorative painting and to MIDA, but love to paint and enjoy our group of ladies. I look forward to our monthly meetings and can’t wait to continue to learn more from each of you.

Secretary, Brenda King: My husband and I were both born in Habersham County. We moved to Gwinnett County in 1967, where we raised four sons and ran a successful craft business. I started taking painting classes when the boys were young. I love to paint in acrylics and oils. I enjoy coming to MIDA and I have learned a lot of new things about painting. I am honored to be nominated as your Secretary for 2016. If elected, I will do my best to serve you to the best of my ability. I appreciate your trust in me as secretary of MIDA and will do my best for the chapter and its members.

Treasurer, Linda B. Payne: I have been the treasurer for MIDA for the past two years. It has been my pleasure to work with the present board and the members of MIDA. My husband and I live in Carnesville, GA., Franklin County. I retired in September, 2000 after 35 years of working for the Franklin County Board of Education. In January, 2001, I started working as Chief Deputy for the Franklin County Tax Commissioner’s office and worked there for five years until I left to take care of my mother. We have two sons and four grandchildren. I started painting in 1985 at Sarah Cary’s studio and have loved every minute of it whether it is oils, acrylic, watercolor or whatever. If re-elected, I will try to serve the chapter and the members to the very best of my ability. MIDA Nominating Committee:

About Arlee Jenkins

My art education is extensive. I have had many instructors, too numerous to mention individually, all masters in their own field. Because I have gathered knowledge from so many sources, I am a well rounded, accomplished artist/instructor. I teach oils (traditional, wet-on-wet, and water immiscible), acrylics, mixed media, Genesis, flower paper sculpting, as well as decorative and folk art.

The most valuable lesson that I have learned and mastered over the years is how to share what I love so dearly, and that is how to teach the art of painting to others. Without fail, I can show you how, you too, can create beautiful works of art.

When I am not teaching in my studio in Tiverton, RI, I am traveling up, down and across this beautiful land we call the United States, painting, teaching art, and visiting my 12 grandchildren. What a wonderful life! Professional Services Offered
