elcome back to school, manatees!
How was your first month back at school?! Underclass-
men, I hope you’re making memories. Juniors, good luck for the
remainder of the year! It gets better! And seniors, battling off
that senioritis yet? However old you are, we have the rest of the
year together so thank you for making the start of it so exciting!
I can barely contain my enthusiasm after hearing about
your awesome Club Rush stories. You guys had so many crea-
tive ideas, and I was truly impressed to see all your photos and
how you got everyone involved. You make me a proud LTG, and
if this is how good of a start you guys have, I can’t wait to see
the numbers you bring to Fall Rally South in November :) but be
sure to keep up the hard work and welcome all those new mem-
bers so we can be the best division out there ;)
I’m editing this right now to add that I just got back from a
school day with LQ’s Club Rush… my voice makes me sound
like a man after yelling “pump it up” ten billion times. But it was
definitely worth it. It feels so good to be cheering again!! Now
that school has begun, we can finally get down to new business
such as first meetings, first events, first socials, and first
cheers!!! Get pumped up, manatees, the party’s just begun! With love,
Halena Ngo

Spotlight on... Your International Trustee Avery Hitchcock!
Official JET Division Newsletter September Issue Page 2
Hey Jet Division! I would like to take the time to introduce myself! My name is Avery Hitchcock. I’m a senior at University High School in Greeley, Colo-rado. I’m a host at the Olive Garden, a proud Directioner, and student body president. But most importantly, I’m a Key Clubber and this year I have the pleasure of representing YOU, the California-Nevada-Hawaii KIWIN’S District, on the Key Club International Board as your Interna-tional Trustee! KIWIN’S is such an amazing part of Key Club International! It’s high spirited, fun, and filled with so many caring people! I am so lucky to be a part of the KIWIN’S Ohana for the coming year and believe that we have an amazing year ahead! Throughout the course of the year, I hope to help bridge the gap between the International, District, and Club levels of Key Club. I strive each and every day to be an available and involved trustee, and not only a trustee, but a friend. If you ever need someone to talk to about any-thing, whether it be college, high school, KIWIN’S, friends, family – you name it, I’m here for you. My main goal is to be your friend. In order to do this, I’m asking you, the members of KIWIN’S, to give me that opportunity. Find me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter, do something to help me connect with you! I’m here to serve you, to repre-sent you, to allow your voices to be heard on the International Board. However, in order for that to happen, I need to have the chance to hear what you want to say. Feel free to contact me at any time! My email is [email protected] and my phone number is (970)373-7881. Do not hesitate to text, call, facetime, or email me with any ques-tions, or if you just want someone to talk to! Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope we have a wonderful year of service to-gether! Stay KIWINStastic!

Jet Movie Night Recap
Official JET Division Newsletter September Issue Page 7
HUGE THANKS to all the attendees at Jet’s Movie Night and DCM on August 18th! The Jet Divisional Team and I really appreciate that you came out to support our first (and
hopefully the first of many) divisional movie nights and also to support our clubs in buy-ing their food! The day would not have been possible without your generosity, and from
what I’ve seen, y’all are ready and pumped up for our theme this year. Remember to keep spreading the news and incorporating Toy Story into your activities this year!
AWESOME TURN-OUT!! THAT BLANKET OF ME CRYING IS CRYING TEARS OF JOY :’)
And if you missed out on the movie screening, selfies in onesies, chilling on blan-kets, and munching on delicious food, be sure to come to next year’s! Who knows
what the theme will be then? (Hopefully not The Conjuring!!)

Wassup in Jet Division! On Saturday, August
17th, Marina KIWIN'S
volunteered for Kiwanis's
Ribs, Pigs, Watermelon &
BBQ event. Starting our
shift at 11 AM, members
spread out to help set up
booths for the men and
women who would cook for eager and hungry customers. All of
the money raised went to the "poor, homeless, and low income
people by offering housing" for them to live in. Members also
handed out fliers, picked up trash in site restoration, and
checked in other volunteers during their time at the busy event.
Overall, Marina KIWIN'S and other clubs had a great time volun-
teering.
-Austin Nguyen, Marina KIWIN’S President
On August 26th, Edison KI-WIN’S decided to volunteer at the Huntington Beach Public Library. Members of the club helped out by shelv-ing books. There were a plethora of books that were on the carts, and the librari-ans were in desperate need of help that day. Together, we pre shelved countless amounts of books by orga-nizing and alphabetizing them according to the section they belong in. After we completed that task, we then rolled out the cart filled with books and placed them in their appropriate locations.
-Vanna Hoang, Edison KIWIN’S Vice President
La Quinta KIWIN’S, and a
couple of other KIWIN’S
clubs (Marina & Los Ami-
gos), volunteered at the 4th
Annual Taste of Westmin-
ster held at the Westmin-
ster Civic Center. Mem-
bers who attended the morning shift were in charge of setting-
up the canopies, tables, chairs, and restaurant signs! The sur-
plus amount of members quickened up the setting-up process.
At around noon, the second shift members arrived and were in
charge of manning the kids’ booth, refilling the trash bins, and
passing out food to festival goers! After the event concluded,
everyone packed up their booths and broke down the canopies,
chairs, and tables. La Quinta KIWIN’S members also enjoyed
the various amounts of food at the event, which was a huge
plus! It was a long day filled with food, laughter, manual labor,
and photos.
-Jessica Tran, La Quinta KIWIN’S Vice President
On the bright and sunny morning of August 24th, the
highly anticipated event, Summer Palooza had finally
arrived. This event was
a combination of a
general meeting and a
social! Many upcoming
freshmen who were
planning to join the
KIWIN'S Ohana went
as well. The first ice-
breaker was the name
game. This icebreaker allowed everyone to learn each
person's name quickly. Each member had to say their
name, what grade they were in, favorite color, and then
name everyone before them. Penny Wars was after.
Some of the money raised during Penny Wars was do-
nated between Live 2 Learn, PTP, and Project Elimi-
nate. the hunt. neared, the general meeting was called
to order. Members got to see what their club was up to
and were able to hear what their board was planning to
make this year great.

Wassup in Jet Division! On the cold, Friday morning of
August 9, Marina KIWIN’S
members gathered at their
designated volunteer meeting
place before getting to work.
Volunteering at the wetlands
has become a staple for the
club, but this event is the first time the club has met at a different
part of the wetlands. Members were asked to shovel small
squares in the mud in order to rehabilitate the wetlands through
reintroducing endangered plant-life. The plants that were being
reintroduced would serve as homes for the equally endangered
Belding Savannah Swallow, indigenous to only the West Coast.
Although it was very early, members worked diligently, with as
few breaks as possible, in order to get as much planting done
before the tide rose.
–Austin Nguyen, Marina KIWIN’S President
To start off an incredi-
bly busy month, Seger-
strom started with its
first bake sale of the
year, on Saturday, Au-
gust 3rd, right outside
Albertsons in Fountain Valley. Members brought in
homemade baked goods for us to sell, such as cake-
pops and smore-cookies! Customers going out grocery
shopping at Albertsons stopped by our booth and pur-
chased many of our handmade desserts; several kind
people donated to us without even buying a single thing
after learning about who we are and what we do. Over-
all, it was a great success. Shoutout to Fountain Valley
KIWIN’S for helping out!
-Tony Do, Segerstrom KIWIN’S Vice President
Taste of Westminster is an event in which local restaurants sign up for the event to present their meals for the public. Admissionwas $25 for the pub-lic; volunteers had free admission to the event after their shift ended. Los Amigos KIWIN'S took the morning shift from 6AM to 12PM. At this event, Los Amigos KIWIN’S helped set up cano-pies with other volunteers. We also setup tables, decorations, and brought the right materials to the right canopies.
Overall, Taste of Westminster was a success because the vol-
unteers that signed up from our club enjoyed their time at the
event. Our volunteers learned how hard it was to prepare for a
big event like Taste of Westminster. This event was very fun,
and Los Amigos KIWIN’S will most likely do it again the follow-
ing year.
–David Tran, Los Amigos KIWIN’S Treasurer
This summer
wouldn’t be com-
plete without a
refreshing park
social! La Quinta
KIWIN’S paired up
with our buddy
club, Los Amigos
KIWIN’S on August 25th, 2013 at Mile Square Park for
an interclub park social. It was definitely filled with hot-
dogs, sweet cupcakes and pie, soda, water balloons,
pictures, and memories! Once everyone arrived, we
proceeded to play a couple of ice breakers that included
steal the bacon and ninja! Afterwards we all feasted on
warm hot dogs and baked goods and mingled around
the benches. At one point, we had a water balloon toss
which eventually led to a full on water balloon fight! It
was a great opportunity to bond with our buddy club and
it couldn’t have gone better.

CLUB PROJECT OF THE MONTH: Fountain Valley
This month, we did a lot of events with our FV Kiwanis, but this
certain event really takes the cake (or should I say the ice
cream?). Our Ice Cream Social event was held on the 17th of
August alongside FV Kiwanis at the Historical Center inside
Heritage Park. At the event, members helped by cleaning up
the gazebo, setting up the ice cream stand and raking leaves.
When the event started, our members got to work scooping ice
cream and topping it with goodies for the customer. The event
went well for everyone --- both the customers and Kiwanis were
impressed with the volunteers for their sunny dispositions and
great work.
MANATEE OF THE MONTH: Sandy Tsan
When Sandy first joined KIWIN’S, she instantly fell in
love with the people in the club as well as the work that
we do. It’s apparent that she tries her best to come to
every event despite how busy she is during those week-
ends. Sandy has walked to school for events, provided
rides, and even encouraged others to join KIWIN’S. Be-
side being involved with KIWIN’S on a club level, Sandy
also attended the previous divisional events as well! You
can always catch her a DCM, movie night, bonfire, and
of course, Fall Rally. Sandy is never afraid to demon-
strate her love for the club, service, and the people
around her, and that is why she deserves to be recog-
nized as Manatee of the Month.
