Lake Prince Woods Headlines

Saturday, September 15 at 8:30 am. Walk to End Alzheimer’s in

Downtown Suffolk, VA! Held annually in more than 600 communities

nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the

world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s

care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants

of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease!

Julius Society Dinner

The Julius Society is named in honor of

Julius W. Abernethy and his wife, Maye

Morrison Abernethy, whose initial gift

planted the seed that grew to become

United Church Homes and Services

(UCHS). The Julius Society honors

friends like Julius and Maye who are

committed to sustaining our work into the

future by leaving a legacy gift.

Vespers Vespers Worship Service at Lake Prince

Woods is held every Sunday @ 4 pm in the

Portsmouth Center. We often have special

musical guests as well as Lake Prince Woods

own Golden Voices Choir sings for us every

3rd Sunday of the month. Each service is led

by Lake Prince Woods Chaplain, Rev. Gary

Newsome.

Lake Prince Woods has an awesome Bible Study which

is held every Wednesday in the Portsmouth Center at 2

pm. It is led by Lake Prince Woods Chaplain, Rev. Gary

Newsome.

Lake Prince Woods has a Prayer Chapel located on

the 2nd floor across from the lobby. The Prayer

Chapel is open 24 hours and 7 days a week to all

residents and staff.

Lake Prince Woods Caregiver’s Support Group meet every third Monday of each

month. The month of September meeting will be on Monday, September 17 @ 3:00

pm in the back of the Portsmouth Center. It is a gathering of caregivers, family,

friends and/or persons with dementia to discuss issues surrounding Alzheimer’s

disease and related dementias. The purpose is to provide an opportunity to meet

regularly for mutual support and to exchange coping skills with one another.

Zumba one of the most popular exercise crazes in

recent years, and with good reason. There are

many health benefits of Zumba, including its ability

to burn calories, work out the entire body, boost

the metabolism, increase endurance, boost mood,

William Shakespeare has writer’s block...the deadline for his new play is fast

approaching but he is in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds

his muse-Viola. This beautiful young woman is William’s greatest admirer and

will stop at nothing (including breaking the law) to appear in his next play.

First Date is a musical with a book by Austin Winsberg and music and lyrics by Alan

Zachary and Michael Weiner. Based around the concept of a blind date, the musical

made its world premiere during 2012 at Seattle’s ACT Theatre in a 5th Avenue Theatre

co-production and made its Broadway debut August 8 at the Longacre Theatre. When

blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, a casual drink at a busy New

York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner.

Friday, September 21 in Virginia Beach, VA

The men and women of Naval Air Station Oceana are planning

2018 NAS Oceana Air Show. This year they are pleased to present

the United States Navy’s Blue Angels flight demonstration team

along with the Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron,

the Snowbirds. Naval Station Oceana will also be celebrating their

75th Anniversary! The bus will be leaving Lake Prince Woods at

9:30 am.

Monday, September 3, Lake Prince Woods will be

recognizing and celebrating this public holiday with

a cookout for its residents. Labor Day honors the

American labor movement and the contributions

that workers have made to the strength, prosperity,

laws and well-being of the country.

Concerts In September

Vocalist Vinnie Knight will be at Lake Prince Woods in the Portsmouth Center on

Friday, September 14 at 7:00 pm. Her rich voice has many interpretations of

what great American Jazz and blues singers sounds like. Her smooth, velvety,

mysterious angelic voice has the sophistication of the great Sarah Vaughn, the

earthiness of Pearl Bailey and the seductiveness of Billie Holiday.

Derik Nelson and Family will be at Churchland High

School, Friday, September 28. Raised in the Pacific

Northwest, Derik Nelson and Family’s signature sound

features velvety three-part pop/folk vocal harmonies

only a family can deliver. Bus will be leaving Lake

Prince Woods at 6:30 pm.
