September 4, 2016 We all have choices to a make. Some choices are less important choices like where you will eat lunch, what you will drink with lunch. Other choices are more important, like choosing to be faithful to your wife, choosing to raise your kids in the faith. It’s been the same since the beginning people have always had a choice. Adam and Eve, had a choice, God told them that they were free to eat from any tree in the garden but that they shouldn’t eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. We know the results of that choice they didn’t choose well and sin entered our world. Moses in some of his last words to his people before he dies is sharing some what he considers to be very important. Choose whom you will serve in the land that you are entering. Our choices have a big impact on what happens to us in our daily lives like what we eat and where we live. And there are certainly consequences of our spiritual choices. What choices does our faith lead us to make? Do we choose in faith to follow God? To live a Christian life? Or do we choose to go our own way and reject God’s way? The lie of the world today is that there are many different choices that you can make to earn salvation, you get to choose how you get to heaven. But the Bible tells us differently... Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”. Questions: 1. What kind of choices do we have in life? 2. What should guide our choices? 3. Are there many ways to salvation? We all have choices to a make. Our choices have a big impact on what happens

to us in our daily lives like what we eat and where we live.

Questions:

1. What kind of choices do we have in life? 2. What should guide our choices? 3. Are there many ways to salvation? Why or why

not?

Mandatory Parent Confirmation Meeting

September 7th at 6pm.

On August 21 families of Zion and parents of Martin Luther School students

participated in a Family Work Day. A transformation took place that totally

enhanced our church’s lawn areas that were in dire need of a major

manicure. Bushes were trimmed, and sidewalks were edged. Spilled-over

rocks were coaxed back into the playground areas. The overgrown weeds were

pulled and jungle-like plants were nicely shaped. A well-cared for yard appeared which definitely

makes a very fine impression as members and visitors view our place of worship.

THANK YOU to you who worked so hard to make this happen.

It looks absolutely wonderful, and we are most appreciative.

Buy a carpet square and help pay for new carpet in the upper & lower foyer!

Any and all monetary contributions will be graciously accepted!

Squares are $100.oo each. **This covers the cost of carpet removal, installation, and labor.**

We need to raise $32,000 for this project. If we can raise a total of $50,000, we could also replace carpet in the school hallways.

Please make checks payable to “Zion” place the word, “Carpet” in the memo line, and on the envelope. A table will be set up between services to accept offerings.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to update this facility!

Update from Rev. Douglas and Angela Thompson

serving in Ghana...

Dear Friends in Christ,

“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24) We never know what each day will bring, and today was no different. While Angie was at market this morning she experienced a sudden and sharp pain in her lower right side, it was debilitating. I was able to make my way to her from the seminary and get her to the hospital. There they diagnosed her with acute appendicitis and a UTI. She is comfortable, doing well, and in good spirits. She is staying overnight in the hospital for observation and to receive medication. Tomorrow morning she will receive a scan to get a better look at the appendix and see any kidney stones that may be causing this. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She does have her phone with her, so please feel free to email her a note of encouragement, she would love hearing from you.. Angie’s email is: [email protected]

In spite of this difficulty, we are so blessed to be where we are, and we are thankful for a good medical facility and doctors and nurses. We are also grateful to Rev. Steve and Cindy Schumacher, our fellow laborers in Christ, who helped Angie (Cindy and Emily were with her), and myself to get to her (through their night guard Patrick); and Rev. Ryan and Emily McDermott and their children for their great support and homemade cards that they delivered to Angie. And to our night guard, Kwami, who show great care and moral support. The students here at the seminary are fantastic as well in their prayers, well-wishes, and godly support. We are truly surrounded by God’s love and care. One of the students told me tonight after chapel, “Reverend, take comfort in God’s Word which tells us that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus.” Thanks be to God. Tomorrow is a new day, and we say: “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” In truth, the whole of Psalm 118 is pretty good! I encourage you to take some time to read it. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

May you have a blessed rest of your day and evening. God’s peace be with you. In Christ, Doug
