On September 4th, the Church will celebrate the one year anniversary of the canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta. There are likely few who have never heard of her work with the poorest of the poor, bringing them comfort in their suffering and as they neared death. Her goal in life was to satiate the thirst of Jesus in loving all those she came in contact with and helping them come to know His love for them personally. She was well-loved by all walks of life, winning the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian efforts. She has been often quoted, but perhaps nothing sums up her mission more than these words, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”

BASICS OF THE FAITH Basics of the Faith is an ongoing monthly series dealing with basic doctrines of the Catholic Church. Our topic in 2017-2018 will be "All Things Visible and Invisible." We'll discuss the reality of non-material creation, including angels and devils and their interactions with humanity. Information will be drawn from various sources, including the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Angels and Demons, A Christian Primer of the Spiritual World by Michael Patella, and Angels and Demons: What Do We Really Know about them? by Peter J. Kreeft. You’re welcome to attend any individual session. No prior knowledge or preparation is needed. We meet on the first Sunday of the month in the Maximilian Room (Rectory side entrance) from 8:45 to 10:15 am. Our first session will be Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 8:45 to 10:15 am. Subsequent sessions will be the first Sunday of each month starting November 5. Coffee, tea, and cake will be provided. To be added to our mailing list for information on upcoming sessions, contact Anne Chavez at [email protected]. Outlines and narrated PowerPoints of previous topics are available at www.basicsofthefaith.org.
