Observances: Building and"dwelling" in a booth; waving branches and a fruit during services.= = = = SUKKOT is so unreservedly joyful that it is commonly referred to in Jewish prayer andliterature as Z'man Simchateinu Z'mn Simchateinu (in Hebrew), the Season of our Rejoicing.= = = = SUKKOT commemorates the forty-year period during which the children of Israel werewandering in the desert, living in temporary shelters. Agriculturally, Sukkot is a harvest festival and issometimes referred to as Chag Ha-Asif Chag Ha-Asif (in Hebrew), the Festival of Ingathering.= = = = The word "Sukkot" means "booths," and refers to the temporary dwellings that we arecommanded to live in during this holiday in memory of the period of wandering. The Hebrewpronunciation of Sukkot is "Sue COAT," but is often pronounced as in Yiddish, to rhyme with "BOOK us."The name of the holiday is frequently translated "Feast of Tabernacles," which, like many translationsof Jewish terms, isn't very useful. After Solomon, the kingdom divided, and the history of bothnorth and south is filled with disobedience and idolatry.

The people were not living up to their calling, and God was

grieved. But He did not remain silent. He patiently called themback to Himself through His prophets.

1. The problem: Not just disobedience,but spiritual adultery. Unfaithfulness is a

__________________ of the heart.

What is God saying?God has made a covenant with us, but we have agreed to the terms(in the New Testament era, to be joined with Christ and live in union

with Him) He is not an obscure, silent God. He speaks to His people.He calls us back when we have gone astray.

2. The high stakes: On the positive sidelife inthe land, Gods blessing, being a light to the

nations; on the negativejudgment, discipline,but with a hope of _______________________.

What is God saying?We have choices, and those choices have consequences. Our calling issacred. We cant afford to treat it casually. Gods desire is for us t o love

Him and be a powerful reflection of His g oodness.

3. The core of the prophets message:________________________ to Me.

What is God saying?His desire is to draw us into deep relationship with Him and

bless us through that relationship. He enables us to beeverything He wants us to be.

Conclusion:God has placed His affection on us, and we are always living in His love.But within that relationship, we have high-stakes choices to make. Will wepursue Him with all our hearts and become a reflection of His glory?Or will we neglect t he relationship and pursue our own interests,squandering the gifts and calling He has offered? God wants us to sayyes to Him. The world needs us to say yes to Him. And we are blessed

by saying yes to Him.

Certainly, the Almighty Lord doesntdo anything unless he first reveals

patient, and always ready to forgiveand to change his plans about

You mortals, the Lord has told youwhat is good.

This is what the Lord requires fromyou:

to do what is right,to love mercy,

and to live humbly with your God.

This is the kind of fasting I havechosen: Loosen the chains of

wickedness, untie the straps of theyoke,[a] let the oppressed go free,and break every yoke. Share your

food with the hungry,take the poor and homeless into

your house and cover them then your light will breakthrough
