WE PLANT THE SEED AND WATER IT, BUT GOD MAKES IT GROW. 1 CORINTHIANS 3:6

September 25, 2013Imagine what might happen if students ask the Lord how prayer might change them, their schools, their communities…their world. And then do it. Not just pray, but seek His face, and turn from sin.

This is the passion behind See You at the Pole in 2013. Not just a prayer meeting be-fore school; donuts and OJ; “been there, done that, go to class.” But students saying, “This week, God…do You want to do some-thing radical through us? We’ll pray before school, after school, at lunch, all night…whatever YOU want us to do. But it starts with us: listening, seeking, obeying.”

This year, it’s not just a day. SYATP will be a Global Student Prayer Week, September 22-28, 2013. At the center of the week is See You at the Pole Day — Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 AM local time.

The theme for SYATP 2013 is #IFthen, tak-ing 2 Chronicles 7:14 seriously: IF we pray, seek, turn. THEN God hears, forgives, heals.

For See You at the Pole 2013, students are challenged to find new and unique ways, places, and times to pray throughout Global Student Prayer Week—Sunday, Septem-ber 22 through Saturday, September 28. Whether they attend public school, private

school, or home school, they can gather their friends wherever and whenever they can to pray any time that week.

Then on Wednesday, Sept. 25th at 7:00AM local time, everyone is encouraged to gath-er at a school flagpole to pray. This means that, all around the world in every time zone, for 24 hours, students will be praying for their school, friends, families, churches, and communities.

This is a student-lead event. Parents are in-vited to be silent participants.

My heart is smiling!INSPIRING PARENTS TO PLANT SEEDS FOR THE FUTURE!

As I ponder all that September brings, my mind and heart is stirred. What a world we live it! I can’t imagine being a parent with-out having a personal relationship with Je-sus. I don’t know how families survive when they put their trust in a world system. Daily, I thank God that at Grace North we have a kingdom mindset. One where we choose to live lives that reflect the culture of Heaven.

I am so thankful for Holy Spirit and godly people that poured into my life over the years. As a parent, I was so aware that God had entrusted me with His prize possesions, three incredible kids. My job was not to fulfill my dreams for their lives, but I was to stew-ard the plans and purposes that God has for them. Daily I was to point them to their King. I was just an ambassador submitted to His plans.

Over the years, Holy Spirit has downloaded truths to me regarding prayer that have be-

come pillars in the Mitchell family. Listed be-low are a few of them:

1. Fill your home with prayer. Pray about everything. Start your day and end it with prayer. Pray without ceasing and pray in the spirit. Make decisions only after bathing them in prayer. No matter is too small.

When the children were young, we posted our prayer needs and answered prayers on a “prayer board”. All the “Yeah God you are faithful” posts were put in a memory box that we would occasionally revisit to remem-ber how faithful God is in our daily lives.

2. Show them that mom and dad pray. Be in-tential in modeling prayer, pray where they can see you praying, model going to the Word. My children needed to see me seek-ing God in every situation.3. Invite them to be a part of the process. They too need to hear the heart of God and

not just rely on their parents hearing. We ex-pected them to hear. So many times over the years, when we brought a prayer need to our kids, they had already heard from the Lord. And it was a confirmation to them.

4. Jeremiah 29:11 God has a plan for our kids, and my job as a parent was to train, equip, authorize, and mobilize them to walk in His plan now. It begins the day they were concieved. That alone caused John and I to live a life submitted to God on our knees.

SEE YOU AT THE POLE!

IF we pray, seek, turn,THEN God hears, forgives, heals

SEE YOU ATTHE POLE

As parents seeking to raise children who grow up and serve the Lord, teach-ing obedience is an essential part of our mandate. Unfortunately, many of us find ourselves settling for mere compliance when we should be requiring true bibli-cal obedience, the kind of God-honoring obedience that begins in the heart and works its way into behavior. Teaching bib-lical obedience does more than get things done, it prepares our children for a rela-tionship with the Lord.

Many times, we can become so focused on gaining outward compliance that we neglect the deeper issue of the heart. Does your child obey out of a sense of honoring God, or merely comply to avoid consequences? Whether your child is compliant, obedient or defiant, God’s best has a lot to do with obeying His word.

How do we as parents teach this to our children? First, we must learn obedience ourselves. We can’t teach something we haven’t learned. Remember, the kind of obedience that God is interested in is not merely outward. It is a yielded heart that stands ready to say “Yes” to Him.

As you allow God to instruct you in obe-dience, consider the ways He is lovingly, honestly, patiently, selflessly, intentional-ly, and graciously shaping your character through relationship.

We too will shape our child’s character through relationship, and that is where going to their heart is so important. By God’s wisdom, we must seek to truly know our child. Every child is a unique individual with strengths and challenges. It is unfair to the child to see only one or the other. As parents, we are called to nurture their strengths and teach them to overcome challenges. We cannot ef-fectively do this if we are unwilling to ask God to give us a realistic picture of our

child’s individual needs. I heard it said like this, “Do not become so enamored with the gift and giftedness of your child that you neglect the shaping of their character through discipline”.

We must not allow ourselves to sacrifice the greatness God has for our children in an effort to avoid confrontations or deal-ing with unpleasant behaviors. It is the character of our children that will allow them to excel in their gifts and keep them on a path of integrity. Without Godly character, children can be outwardly obe-dient without internal conviction. God has so much more than that for them, and it is definitely worth fighting for!

Discipline and guidance are most effec-tive in healthy relationships, so your fam-ily dynamic will have a lot to do with how you can best reach your child’s heart. As with any other principle, begin with prayer. Ask God to help you and search His word for the answers you need. While there’s no step-by-step formula for going to the heart of obedience, here are some basics to get you started:

Obey - This is the starting point. Children should be taught to do exactly what is asked of them. They may ask clarifying questions, but only in an effort to under-stand what they are to do.

Right Away - First time obedience is true obedience! Children who must be told repeatedly to do the same thing before they act are not exhibiting biblical obedi-ence.

All The Way - Not completing a task or doing only part of what was asked is not obedience. With thatsaid, it is important the all instructions are clearly communi-cated in an age appropriate way in order to avoid confusion. Some children who are just learning this concept may need to repeat back instructions until they de-velop the habit of diligence.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILDThis month, while our toddlers hear the story of Joseph, they will learn that they are unique beings made by the Creator of the universe and that He has a special plan for each one of their lives just as He did for Joseph.

God doesn’t promise that the journey will be easy. Joseph’s story is proof of that. His prom-ise to us is that He loves us and cares for us in every circumstance, that He has a plan for our lives, and that He will be with us on the journey. And, if we trust like Joseph did, God can use us to do amazing things just as He did for Joseph. What can you do if you trust God’s plan for you?

SHAPING YOUR CHILD’S CHARACTER

Hi, my name is Alex Petkovski and I am a teacher in the Preschool class. During the week I am a 5th grade teacher at Caurus Academy. I’m married to a wonderful man, James, and we have 3 dogs and a cat.

I love teaching and I love kids, of all ages! Each group that I have worked with has taught me new things about myself and about the kind of teacher I want to be. One day I hope to teach all over the world and show Jesus’ love to children everywhere!

My walk with God has led me to where I am today. I thank Him for all the wonderful things He has brought into my life and all the things that He has saved me from. Through Him I can do anything, and without Him I don’t want to do anything!

November 18-25, Grace North becomes the official North Corridor Relay center for Operation Christmas Child, Samaritan Purse’s “Christmas Shoe Box”.
