September 25, 2016 ~ Twenty – Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

TRI ANNUAL PRIEST CONVOCATION SEPT 26 – 29… Every three years since about 1978 the bishops of our diocese have called all the priests to a special Convocation – three days of prayer, study, reflection, fun and fellowship. This year the priests of the diocese, Fr. Dan and me will be away from the parish. There will be retired priests who will be celebrating the morning masses and will be available for emergencies. Please keep all of our priests in your prayers as we gather to truly seek to make us better ministers of God’s Word…Fr. Joe A THOUGHT FOR THIS WEEK… Selfishness must be discovered and understood before it can be removed. It is powerless to remove itself, neither will it pass away of itself. Darkness ceases only when light is introduced; so ignorance can only be dispersed by knowledge and selfishness of love. –James Allen JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY…ends Nov 20 but God’s mercy never ends… "One should truly listen to the word, in the Bible, in the Gospel, meditating on the Scriptures to put their content into practice every day. But to scan the Gospel superficially is not listening to the Word of God: this is reading the Word of God, as if one would read a comic strip. To listen to God's Word is to read it and ask oneself: 'What does this say to my heart?' Only in this way, in fact, does our life change. This happens every time we open the Gospel and read a passage and ask ourselves: 'Is God speaking to me with this, is he saying something to me?' This means to listen to the Word of God, to listen with the ears and listen with the heart, to open the heart to God's Word." — Pope Francis CONFIRMATION CONGRATULATIONS… Bishop Serratelli confirmed the members of our 2016 Confirmation class on Saturday and we wish these young men and women best wishes and our prayers that they continue to active members of our parish community. They had done many hours of service for others and many of them have great plans for helping other in need in the future. Continue to pray for them and be good Christian models to them. A SPECIAL INVITATION - SAVE THE DATE --- A SPECIAL EVENING AT ST MARK --- TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 27th 7:30 p.m. MEDITATIONS ON MERCY: Please join us for an hour of prayer to mark this Year of Mercy. Jim and Coleen Caulfield, husband-and-wife team of “Mustard Seed Missions” will lead us in a presentation which incorporates music, stories, and art as they assist us in reflecting on the infinite mercy of God. Come and spend some time listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying to you about embracing the love and mercy God is offering.

We are Catholic because we believe: Lay people share in Christ's priesthood: ever more united with him, they exhibit the grace of Baptism and Confirmation in all dimensions of their personal family, social and ecclesial lives, and so fulfill the call to holiness addressed to all the baptized. By virtue of their prophetic mission, lay people are called . . . to be witnesses to Christ in all circumstances and at the very heart of the community of mankind. By virtue of their kingly mission, lay

people have the power to uproot the rule of sin within themselves and in the world, by their self-denial and holiness of life. The Catechism of the Catholic Church 941-943 "THANK A COP"…A THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! The project was an amazing success all due to the generosity of the parishioners from OLM, St. Marks and St. Lukes. I was able to put together 3 baskets of all the items collected. My husband Renny and I delivered them to the Washington Township Police Department, the Chester Police Department and the State Troopers Barracks in Netcong. It was an overwhelming, emotional experience to have the opportunity to present these gifts of "Thanks" to these police officers in person as a representative of our communities. They were so grateful for our outpouring of love and support and shared with us how much it meant to them to know that there really are people out there who appreciate what they do and that prayers are being offered for them. The total of gifts that were collected and distributed were: 320 cards and letters 260 cards that contained gift cards (I was able to determine that gift cards were enclosed in the sealed envelopes by feeling them).....(good detective work) 45 gift cards alone 50 goodie bags 2 posters 1 Frisbee for a K9 On behalf of all the police that we donated to, I thank you and please continue to keep all of them in your prayers…Pam Hodgskin
