25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

FROM THE PASTOR

MASS INTENTIONS

I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and

thanksgivings be offered for everyone…

In this pastoral letter to Timothy, Paul reminds us that

sometimes the smallest gifts make the biggest

difference. We live in a word that is struggling, a

world often overshadowed by darkness and tragedy.

Still, this world is also full of goodness because of

faithful believers and disciples who continue to do the

work of Jesus each day. While some will do great

things, most of us offer our own little contributions,

those daily acts of love that make our world a better

place. We do not have to do it all, but we all must do

our part in building the kingdom.

Think about the times you sat patiently with a friend or

a stranger and just listened as they poured out their

hearts. Think about those times you offer a prayer for

someone. Think about those times you sent a card to or

visited someone who was ill. Think about the special

times you spent with your family These may not be

earth shattering events of the scale of things, but they

are small acts of love that make a big difference. These

are little acts of love that offer hope and light in the

midst of the darkness.

The Gospel today once again reminds us that we have

been entrusted with much and that God will continue to

ask more of us. Maybe our daily spiritual prescription

might be to perform small acts of love each day. A

solid house is built one brick at a time. Acts of love are

the building material of the Kingdom of God which we,

with Jesus, build every day. May we continue to build

something beautiful for the Lord and each other.

Our Parish Library is a wonderful place to enrich your Spir-

itual life and get to know God better. Stop by soon for

some quiet time of reflection with spiritual selections that

help draw us closer to the Lord.

25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Who broke the chapel doorknob?

Well, it is an interesting story. One night recently, when the

1AM adorers went to open the door to the chapel, the door-

knob fell off into the hand of one of them. Then they discov-

ered that the inside doorknob came right off as well. The door-

knobs had become useless in the middle of the night. They

looked at them to see if they could be repaired, only to find

that the metal rod that connected the two doorknobs had bro-

ken in two. The only force on that metal rod was the frequent

use of the doorknobs over these last almost 5 years the chapel

has been open.

The midnight adorer said, “Look! Our prayers have broken

through steel! Think of it – the power of prayer!“ The

touchscreen states how many people have signed in since the

chapel opened. Right now we are at over 57,000. If you esti-

mate that visitors probably are at least triple the number of

people that sign in, that would be about 150,000 people enter-

ing the chapel these last 5 years. Since all these people also

touch the doorknob on their way out, it is reasonable to esti-

mate at least 300,000 turns of that same doorknob.

Answer: We all did!

So, what happened next? One of the 1AM adorers went home

to get something to try and fix the doorknob. Still during his

holy hour, he brought back a small used doorknob and in-

stalled it so that the adorers could continue to open and close

the door. He said, “This belonged to a little Jewish lady. I will

have to tell her about it sometime.” Then he finished his hour

in silent adoration. It was the first few hours of the feast day of

the Holy Name of Mary, another “little Jewish Lady” who al-

ways leads us to Her Son.

Thanks to everyone whose prayers wore through a metal bar.

Please keep them up! Thanks to the adorer/ handyman who

was called to replace the chapel doorknob in the middle of the

night! Thanks to the midnight adorer who could see the con-

nection between a broken doorknob and the power of prayer.

And thanks to the little Jewish Lady who supplied the

doorknob on the feast day of the Holy Name of Mary!
