Member Profile

Name: Anita Dillman

How long have you been running/walking? I started racing when I was 60, First race was the Bee Bumble, September 2006 What made you start running/walking? I wanted to [lose] weight and get healthy. Best athletic accomplishment and why? 8 Tuff Miles race in St. John USVI, 6 miles straight up and two miles down. Without a doubt the toughest challenge I have endured. If you like to race, what is your favorite race distance? Why? 5k I think because weather and conditions can challenge you to change things up a bit. Favorite local running route? My house to Logansport, about 7 miles. With my good friend Sherry Kestle Favorite club race? Why? Saints on the Run, the organization, course (beautiful), and the challenges of the terrain changes. Heather We-ber and her team do a fantastic job with this race. Favorite non-club race? Why? Howl at the Moon, Danville, Illinois. I like it for the self-discipline it takes for training and the personal challenge it presents. Did this 3 times, two times with 26.32 miles and one time at 19.74 miles. Favorite post run/walk treat? COOKIES!!!! What is your favorite piece of running/walking gear? Head visor and my Garmin. Favorite running/walking related book or movie? My inspiration is the video about Kory Kennedy and his running journey. He is a magnificent guy and a motivator and inspiration to us all. Do you have a running/walking superstition? No not really.

If you could run/walk with anyone, who would it be? Sherry Kestle. Why did you join CKRR? I joined the CKRR to challenge myself against others, little did I know at the time how many wonderful people are involved and would become my friend. I am truly blessed. Anything else you'd like the CKRR members to know about you? Jeff Saylor was my original opportunity person, he said to me after a class at the Cass County that he taught, that he knew I was trying to get healthy and he would pay for me and a friend to do the Bee Bumble 5k in Burnettsville, In. in 2006. I did it and never looked back.....thank you so much Jeff for putting this challenge to me and creating a monster! Each year I try to pick something new to do or as a challenge. One year did over 26,562 miles. One year with my friends Sherry Kestle and Debbie Berkshire, we did the 5k and the half marathon in the Smokey Moun-tains. One year we did 4 -1/2 marathons, 1-ultra mara-thon, 2-10k, and 18-5k's. This year was the 8 Tuff Miles in the Virgin Islands which was without a doubt the tough-est thing I have ever done. Again I want to say how blessed I am to be healthy enough to do this at 73 years old, but the biggest perk is ALL the wonderful people I have met and call my friends.
