Message From the Office WELCOME BACK! Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! We are delighted to greet students returning for another year of learning and extend a warm welcome to our new students who are joining us for the first time. SCHOOL CODE OF CONDUCT

Beaumonde Heights is committed to providing a healthy learning and working environment by promoting respect, civility, safety, responsible citizenship and academic excellence. As parents, teachers and students, we are all responsible for fostering a safe, civil and mutually respectful school climate here at Beaumonde Heights. Arriving at School on Time It is very important that all students arrive at school on time. If they are just a few minutes late, they will miss very important aspects of each day’s lesson. Please assist your child(ren) to wake up, get ready and arrive at school on time. For safety reasons, all our doors will be locked including the FRONT DOOR. Children who are late for school must come through the front door and obtain a late slip from the office before going to their classrooms. School Hours Entry Time 8:40 am Instructional Time Begins 8:45 am A.M. Recess 9:55 am Lunch Begins 11:25 am Entry after Lunch 12:15 pm P.M. Recess 1:40 pm Dismissal 3:00 pm Teachers will be on duty in the schoolyard 10 minutes before the entry bell. Please do not send your child to school prior to 8:30 a.m. in the morning as your child will be unsupervised in the yard.

    Volunteers

Thank you to our volunteers who have offered their

time to help in the classroom and all around the

school. We appreciate and enjoy having our parents

volunteer their time in our school.

There are a number of ways you can get involved in

    your child’s education:

    Attending school events

Volunteering in our snack program, or classrooms

Reading every day with your child

    Communicating regularly with us

    Participating in fundraising events.

If you are interested in being a volunteer in the

school, please contact us at 416 394 7790 or come

into the Office to get more information.

Remember that your help in the school will make

a difference in the lives of our children!

September Forms Please note that your child is bringing

home an extensive package of forms and

information that is needed to start the

school year. Please take time to read all

the information carefully and return the

required paperwork as soon as possible.

Nut Free Environment Beaumonde Heights JMS is a nut free environment.

Some of our students suffer from a severe allergy to nuts

and nut products. These children need to maintain

constant vigilance in their daily lives as they can develop

potentially life threatening allergic reactions to some

foods. Some children are so sensitive to these products

that even touching or smelling the food may trigger a

    severe reaction.

The following is a partial list of the prime possibility

danger foods that may be hazardous to these children and

must not be sent to school. This list is a composite list of

allergens and not specific to any one child: peanut, nuts,

sesame seeds, peanut oil, nut oils, sesame oil, peanut

flour, and nut flower. For this reason we ask that you

do not send food to school for your child’s birthday or

    special occasions.

and we encourage our parents to have their children be

a part of this program. A $5 donation fee is being requested

each month to help support the cost of the snack program.

    RETAKE DAY: NOVEMBER 6th

    , 2019

STUDENT ABSENCE AND SAFE ARRIVAL PROGRAMME If your child is going to be late or absent for any part of the school day, we urge you to phone the School’s Safe Arrival line at (416) 394 - 7796 (PRESS: 1) and leave a message. Please state clearly your child’s name, the teacher’s name, and the reason for the absence or lateness. Our voicemail system can take the call at any time that is convenient to you, including weekends and early morning hours. The system will call out to contact the parent or guardian of a child who is absent and for whom we have not received a phone call. LOST AND FOUND

Each year a large number of items are lost by our students. To avoid the loss of expensive clothing items, please label your child’s clothing (sweater, jacket, hat, mittens, etc.) and the staff will do their best to help your child locate his/her missing clothing.

INDOOR/OUTDOOR SHOES Cleanliness in schools is essential. It conveys respect to students, creates a more pleasant learning environment, and tends to improve student behaviour. You can assist us in maintaining the cleanliness of the school by ensuring that your child has two pairs of shoes enabling him/her to change after entering the building. This will prevent student from unnecessarily tracking dirt and mud onto the classroom floor and carpeted areas. Indoor shoes should be kept at school.

    School Council

Each TDSB school is required to have a School Council made up of the principal, parents, teachers, support staff, students (secondary schools), and community members. The purpose of the council is to actively engage parents to improve student success. It also provides a regular opportunity for its members to discuss how to make the school a better place for learning for its students. The principal brings important information about the school to the School Council. The School Council, in turn, advises the principal on matters related to the learning goals of the school, the school’s policies and procedures, students’ needs, activities and resources for students and parents, and ways of involving parents in the life of the school. The School Council is required to hold at least four general meetings each school year that are open to all parents in the school. The elected chair of the council is a parent of a child in the school. More information along with the nomination form for the School Council Executive (Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) will be sent home on Monday, September 9th 2019.
