SOUTH COAST JAZZ FESTIVAL 18 OCTOBER - 20 OCTOBER 2019 A new jazz festival will take place in the town
of Goolwa on the same weekend as the previ-
ous festival that was held at Murray Bridge.
We have selected Goolwa because of the ex-
cellent facilities available to us and we are
particularly pleased that we have secured a
number of venues that are strictly walking dis-
tance apart.

Spring has finally arrived and out comes the sun, lovely blossoms and of course great Jazz Music. The Ballarat Jazz Club continues to present a high standard of bands at our monthly gigs. Last month (August) we had Jazz Notes attend for the very first time. For those that attended, I am sure they were very impressed, as much as I was. The band presented a lovely mix of Jazz, featuring Rick Correnza (vocals), Ann (flute), Kevin (guitar), Frank (bass), Simon (drums) and a guest pianist. The music featured songs of famous male vocalists of the 20th century, Frank Sina-tra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Ray Charles. It was a nice change to hear this style of jazz. We are looking forward to our next performance on 15th September when Flints New Old New Orleans Jazz Band will present more traditional style jazz, which is always very popular. I would like to invite everyone along, bring your dancing shoes. Let’s hope for a lovely spring day. The Ballarat Jazz club recently sent a letter to Creative Victoria, seeking their support in pro-moting jazz in Victoria. The Victorian Government are building foundations and seeking views from across Victoria’s creative and cultural sectors, to gain valuable information and develop and four-year creative industries strategy, covering 2020-2024. Our club feel it is important Jazz grows and that Creative Victoria takes into consideration, the views of Jazz Clubs and lov-ers of Jazz. Anyway, the months seem to fly along, suddenly we are in September and before too long, 2019 will be ending. So why not spend a pleasant Sunday afternoon listening to Jazz, say high to your friends and enjoy their company. I hope to see you at the Ballarat Golf Club on 15th September. Gerard.
THE BALLARAT JAZZ CLUB WOULD LIKE TO GIVE A BIG SHOUT OUT TO
ANY OF OUR MEMBERS, FRIENDS OR FAMILY THAT
HAVE BEEN UNWELL OVER THE PAST FEW
MONTHS. WE WISH YOU WELL AND HOPE YOU
HAVE A SPEEDY RECOVERY.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN
WHEN YOU ARE FEELING BETTER.

BAND REVIEW—JAZZ NOTES…………………………………………………………… Dawn Houghton
JAZZ NOTES
A band with a difference, we heard Ann Craig (flute), Kevin Blaze (guitar), Frank Morgan (bass), Simon Atkinson (drums) with Rick Correnza (vocals) and Tony Luxmoore (keyboard).
The first tune was "BerniesTune" sung by Rick, who entertained us with many more throughout the afternoon "Dawn in Monte Carlo, I'm Beginning to see the Light, Autumn Leaves, Day by Day, Stardust, Lady Is A Tramp, I Get A Kick Out Of You, Fly Me to the Moon, Shadow of Your Smile, Come Fly With Me, The Very Thought Of You, Cheek To Cheek, Charade and many more - the last tune was Night and Day"
A first for us, was listening to Ann playing the Flute in all the tunes complemented by Kevin . Frank and Simon., who all gave us some very talented music.
We also had , I think, our youngest audience member for a long time "Connor" spending a lot of time on the dance floor listening to the band, his mother went to school with Rick. It is great to see the youngsters enjoying the music.
The music was very easy to listen too and the dancers were enjoying themselves dancing to the different tempos. In all, the afternoon was quite enjoyable.
Very enjoyable, good choice of songs…………..Happy Club Member
Rick Corenza has a very powerful and lovely voice—a pleasure to listen to. The band plays to his
