Finding yield in today’s market is not as difficult as

it may seem, so long as you can access alternative

investment strategies and report your clients’

returns through Orion. But is it really that easy? In a

word, yes.

Financial advisors are turning to peer-to-peer

lending to find non-volatile, high yield, uncorrelated

returns for their clients. The trouble is, for FAs

outside of the Orion ecosystem, these p2p assets

are held away -- difficult to track, difficult to report

on, and nearly impossible to bill against. For those

on the Orion platform it’s a totally different story.

You may have heard of peer-to-peer investing,

also known as p2p lending. You may already be

dabbling in p2p lending yourself -- and you may

well be delighted with the results. But how, you

may ask, can you apply a p2p lending strategy

across your client base? How much should you

allocate? How can you operationalize a p2p

investment strategy without inundating your

organization with administrative overhead? Enter

NSR Invest.

NSR Invest has integrated with Orion to offer

financial advisors seamless access to p2p investing

opportunities. Financial advisors can now easily

manage all aspects of their clients’ p2p accounts

from a single interface. This includes managing

all the nuances that come with this sophisticated

investment strategy including loan selection, order

execution cash management and reporting. Your

clients’ p2p portfolios are displayed alongside their

traditional assets in the Orion portal, giving you

a holistic view of all client holdings. The Orion-

NSR Invest integration provides you the ability to

implement, view and manage a p2p investment

strategy across your client base.

What is Peer-to-Peer Lending?

Peer-to-peer lending is the practice of individual

investors lending to borrowers who are requesting

a loan through an online marketplace. Since 2007,

leading p2p loan originators like Lending Club

(NYSE: LC) and Prosper have produced over $20

billion in responsible, fully-amortizing personal

loans to prime borrowers -- and have improved the

financial health of over 1 million lives.

Peer-to-peer lending reduces the friction

associated with traditional bank lending, which

benefits both borrower and lender: borrowers

typically receive a materially lower rate of interest

in the form of a responsible, 3- to 5-year fully-

amortizing personal loan, and investors typically

generate yields ranging from 5% for conservative

portfolios to upwards of 10% for more aggressively

positioned loan portfolios. The process is simple:

borrowers apply for a loan through an online

marketplace like Lending Club or Prosper and if

approved, investors can purchase a small portion

of that loan for his or her portfolio. Typically,

an investor with $30,000 in p2p securities will

have funded loans to over 1000 different prime

borrowers across America, each “loan” being a

|$25 investment in a Note that is registered with

the SEC.

The Benefits of P2P

P2p lending offers a set of benefits to investors

that no other asset class provides.

1. Attractive risk-adjusted returns yielding up

to 10% after charge-offs, fees and expenses.

2. Monthly income provided by principal and

interest payments

3. Low correlation to many other standard asset

classes, such as stocks and bonds.

4. Short duration of 15-30 months, depending

on the composition of loans within a client’s

portfolio.

5. Customizable investment strategies within the

asset class—for example, we offer Conservative,

Balanced and Assertive investment strategies

right out of the box.

The NSR Advantage

NSR Invest’s mission is to help financial advisors

allocate a portion of their clients’ portfolios to p2p

in an efficient and intelligent way. We accomplish

this by offering Separately Managed Accounts in

partnership with p2p lending leaders like Lending

Club and Prosper. We leverage our internal credit

expertise in this asset class to craft conservative,

5

balanced and assertive buying strategies

targeting 5%, 7% and 10% net returns to

investors, respectively.

We solve the major challenges faced by financial

advisors looking to allocate to p2p and provide

the tools needed to be successful with this

asset class. As a fiduciary, we are focused on

bringing the best of p2p to financial advisors

and their clients through our credit analytics,

portfolio construction, order management

system, reporting and integrations.

Demand is surging for the emerging category of

peer-to-peer lending as a fixed-income alternative

due to its attractive yield and low correlation

to traditional asset classes. By integrating our

order management system with industry-leading

reporting tools like Orion, we offer seamless access

to p2p lending for independent financial advisors.

Q: Location

A: Dallas, TX

Q: One word that describes how you work

A: Efficient

Q: What do you enjoy most about working with your clients?

A: My philosophy is that the advisors are my clients. At Fusion, we focus on streamlining and growing a

financial professional’s practice. I love working with our clients because they are independent business

owners and each of their businesses has unique objectives. Each day at Fusion is different. I work

with my clients on a daily basis, either through our Service Portal, phone or in-person in our offices

throughout the country.

Q: Why did you decide to join the RIA industry?

A: The RIA industry found me. I was asked to join a marketing organization based out of Tampa, FL

in 2008 (great time to get into the investment business, right?) as they were starting an RIA firm.

Looking back, if I was faced with a decision to choose, I would have gone the RIA route any day of

the week. I believe in the RIA space and what it provides for families seeking fee-based advice. We

started Fusion in 2011 because we felt so strongly about the RIA industry and where it was headed.

That holds true today.

Q: What is your favorite app? A: Well of course, Orion Connect and specifically

Portfolio Audit. Portfolio Audit accomplishes more than a lot of people realize - you should get to know it! Outside of Orion, I’m really into Trello - it’s a very cool list tool to help you stay organized and collaborate on projects.

Q: Tell us about some of your favorite books, or what you are currently reading?

A: I’m a huge Pat Lencioni fan (Death by Meeting, Getting Naked, The Advantage). Anything by

Malcolm Gladwell or Michael Lewis too. Moneyball is one of my all-time favorites. I’m currently

reading “Can I Say” - Travis Barker’s memoir. It’s a different style read for me (I don’t normally

read auto-biographies or memoirs), but I appreciate his book because I’m a drummer and grew up

following and listening to his music.

Q: What do you do to unwind when not working (in other words, what are some of your hobbies)?

A: Anything involving music. I’ve played drums, in and out of bands, for about 20 years, and now I try to

play every day after I leave the office. Playing drums helps me escape and completely relax after a long

day. Beyond music, I love being outside doing any of the following: golf, hiking, biking.

Q: What is one thing you can’t do without at work?

A: The Fusion family! A solid team is everything to me. We wouldn’t be where we are today as an organization, if it wasn’t for the team behind it. Culture is really important to us, so we have a lot of fun as a team.

Q: What is your favorite type of music?

A: I’m a music junkie, so just about anything! I grew up listening to, and playing, punk rock music - you

probably don’t hear that from many financial professionals. I also love classic rock, alternative, jazz

and hip hop.

Q: What are the top three essential tools in your workspace?

A: Orion, a phone and a solid set of

speakers. With those tools I could work

from any location in the world! Also, an

Eggtastic (look it up) - breakfast has

never been the same. With that, if you

are ever in the area, stop by our office

for breakfast - we make a mean omelet!

10

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

A: “ Never stop learning.” I’ve always considered myself to be a sponge by soaking up all sorts of

knowledge from people. I try to learn something new from everyone I meet. “Take some time for

yourself” is another piece of advice I often get. I never knew how important this was until the

term “busy” took on a bigger meaning for me.

Q: Where do you see this industry going in the next five years?

A: I see the RIA space continuing its rapid growth within the financial services industry. With DOL top

of mind for a lot of financial professionals, the RIA industry is set to be the beneficiary of some crazy

growth. Due to this ruling, we’ll see many new faces, technologies and strategies. Get ready!

A: I have had five different positions at Orion. I started as an Account Manager (ASA), then I moved to the

manager of the team. From there I became a Senior Training Specialist and was responsible for new

hire training. After that I progressed to a Senior Manager Position (Director) and last, but not least, the

GENERAL UPDATES

ORION CONNECT LOGOAdvisors now have the ability to replace the Orion

logo in the top left corner of Orion Connect. A

database option called “Orion Connect Branding”

can be turned on and then “Orion Logo” (default),

“Report Image” or “Portal Image” can be selected

as a logo option.

If the user is a Rep, the system will pull the

Rep’s image from the specific source if available,

otherwise it will default back to a Broker Dealer

image, if available. If a Broker Dealer image isn’t

available, then the logo will default to the

Firm image.

MAIN SEARCH IN ORION CONNECTThe main search in Orion Connect has some new

additions! You are now able to search by the

following fields:

• Household level items – Household ID, Last Name,

First Name, Rep Name, Rep Number.

Registration level items – Registration ID,

Registration Name, Registration Type.

Account Level items – Account ID, Account

Number, Secondary Account Number, Outside ID

• Asset Level items – Asset ID

NEW APPS

COMPLIANCE CORNERWe wanted to create an area in the Orion system

to help you with your compliance needs. In the

Compliance Corner app you’ll see some quick “what

you need to know” items related to how the Orion

system can help with things like going through an

SEC audit, and certain regulatory filings.

We’ve provided you with quick links to reports in

order to help you get the data you need for these

filings. We’ve also provided a way to notify Orion:

Attach your letter from the SEC and send that into

our team, which will create an internal case where

we can then process the data exports needed for

your audit.

MANAGE USERS

It’s here!! Man, I know you’ve been waiting for this

one! The look and feel matches the other apps in

Orion Connect. Oh, and by the way, it’s way faster

than our previous user management experience!

A couple of awesome things you can do that you

couldn’t before:

1. Change User Details – Email, Names, and User ID!!

2. Delete Users!

3. Manage Rights!

What?! Did we just say that? Yes we did! You are

now going to be able to manage the rights for your

firm users as well as your Rep level users with the

power of “ROLES”.

Learn more about the Manage Users app by reading

our recent blog.

TAX CENTER

This app will be a one-stop shop for you, the

advisor, to audit and update your custodial and

Orion cost basis data. With automated audit

reports in the dashboard, you will always know

the current state of your cost basis data. Also, the

ability to update, add, or delete cost basis lots will

allow you enhanced control over your cost basis

reporting. This feature is scheduled to be released

in September 2016.

REPORT BATCHES

Orion’s new Report Batches tool rolls out with the

August release. This tool is going to replace and

enhance the current process of creating report

batches quarterly, monthly, or even one at a time.

The new Report Batches application will empower

advisors to create their own statement batches!

BILL GENERATOR

The Orion Billing Team is currently working on a

multi-build project called the Bill Generator. This

feature will allow firms to calculate receivables

and produce fee files. No longer will firms have

to wait on Orion to complete their billing process.

We are excited about the look and feel that has

already been developed. The functionality will soon

be developed with multiple new and improved

enhancements. This feature is scheduled to be

released in November 2016.

APP UPDATES

NOTIFICATIONS

We have given our notifications a makeover.

First, the User Interface (UI) has been updated. The

UI will now group like notifications, and present you

with a summary count, allowing click through to

individual notification details.

Second, we have added several notifications. In

addition to reports run to inbox, scheduled data

queries, and trade generations, we have added

notifications that give you general updates. This list

includes new accounts, contributions, distributions,

account cancellations, and report usage.

Finally, in true Orion fashion, the groundwork has

been laid to create an open architecture Notification

Platform! This is another way to integrate other

systems that you use. You’ll be able to receive

notifications from a CRM, or Financial Planning, all

within Orion. As we work with all software vendors,

this will help with our effort to continue to make the

software you use more integrated, and work better

with each other. This is going to be a main focus at

our Fuse 2016 event in September!

TRENDS

Rep dashboards will be available! We’ll be adding

dashboards to analyze new and closed accounts as

well as billing and payout dashboards.

PORTFOLIO AUDIT

The ability to copy information from an existing

Household into a new Household has been added

to the Portfolio Audit app. Right Click on any

Household and choose “Copy Household.” Yeah,

that’s pretty cool!

Start Date has been added as an available filter

in the Accounts view & Account-level Product

Substitution has been added.

NEW ACCOUNT CENTER

Additional fields have been added to the New

Account import in the New Account Center. The

fields are: Salutation, Statement Delivery Method,

Email Address, Business Line, all Phone fields, and

the ability to import data into a Custom Field.

Additional data points have been added during

New Account creation. You are now able to identify

a Beneficiary as Primary or Contingent and you may

add a Phone number during the initial setup.

SECURE EXCHANGE

This app has been completely redone. It’s FAST,

easy to use, and way more intuitive. All the same

features but nicely revamped!

CLIENT PORTAL

A list of all available pages found in the application

can now be added as the landing page in the

Client Portal.

”Model” has been added to the Group Holdings By

and Group Performance By drop down menus in

the Client Portal settings.

QUARTER END DASHBOARD

In conjunction with the new Report Batches

application, Orion is rolling out an all-inclusive

quarter-end process management tool. This tool

will allow firms to coordinate and execute their

quarter-end through Orion. The tool will also

integrate into the Report Batches application. Once

you have completed your quarterly audits, at the

click of a button you will be able to navigate to the

report batch generation wizard inside of the report

batches application!

TRADING APPS

The Orion Trading team is excited to inform

you about a couple of items coming out in our

August release. To start, the Models app has

been renovated to properly allow you to assign an

account to a model aggregate.

Within Orion, a model aggregate is what gets

assigned to an account, but previously in the app

it would appear like the base model was being

assigned. This has been adjusted, so you will now

have the ability to assign the model aggregate,

whether it be the base model weighted at 100% or

a true weighted model.

To go along with our changes to the Models app, we

have implemented some efficiencies into our Model

Analyzer tool in TOM. You will now have the option

to include or exclude cost basis data. Depending

on the number of accounts and positions in your

model, this could significantly speed up the loading

Page 16: SEPTEMBER 2016...A: My philosophy is that the advisors are my clients. At Fusion, we focus on streamlining and growing a financial professional’s practice. I love working with our

16

time for this tool. You can also now include both

trade blocked accounts and excluded assets.

The Tactical Trades tool has been updated to now

include difference columns. With this, you’ll have

visibility to the target and post trade differences

from the current position, instead of having to

manually calculate it.

In Portfolio Audit you will now be able to add

product equivalents to an account. When looking

at the Model Assignment tab of an account, you

can set the model product and the equivalent to

have them both considered the same product for

modeling purposes.

Updates have been made to the FIX trading system

for advisors holding accounts at TD Ameritrade.

The new enhancements allow for straight through

processing of equities and mutual funds in real time.

Please reach out to the trading team for further

details on utilizing this great efficiency.

Lastly, a trade file is now available to trade mutual

funds for RBC. Please contact the trading team if

you would like the new trade file enabled.

INTEGRATION UPDATES

RISKALYZE

Orion can now update your Client and Account Risk

Numbers en mass in Orion using the scores from

Riskalyze. This populates the new The Risk Number

column in the Portfolio Audit app for the Client and

Accounts list.

If you have the Riskalyze integration, now when you

build a model from the Models app, it will calculate

The Risk Number of the model as you build it.

EGNYTE

Egnyte has now been added as an available

integration choice for Cloud Storage in the

Client Portal.

MONEYGUIDEPRO

For MoneyGuidePro sub-reports in Report Builder,

we now have the ability to automatically trigger

MGP to update the account holding data before it

returns the results to the report. Previously it would

pull the data based on the last time it was updated

directly in MGP.

TD AMERITRADE

A new TD Ameritrade card is now available in the

Insights app! This card provides real-time balances,

transactions, holdings, and alerts directly from

TD Ameritrade right through the Orion Insights

dashboard.

INTUIT TO BYALLACCOUNTS

Orion is replacing the Inuit integration within

the Client Portal Balance Sheet page with

ByAllAccounts. Intuit is no longer offering this

integration to any third parties after

November 2016.

With ByAllAccounts, you will have the same

functionality as Intuit and be able to allow your

clients to add accounts to the Balance Sheet

using ByAllAccounts’ large list of available

financial institutions.
