Recently the US Supreme Court ruled that Same Sex couples must have equal access and equal rights to marriage. This ruling has caused a lot of debate in Christian circles. Although many people have opinions about this decision, not everyone knows the truth? What does God have to say about marriage? Beginning in September, we will explore God’s Truth through a sermon series called A Biblical View of Marriage. )f you want to know God’s thoughts concerning marriage, join us at : am beginning September 6th.

The Subaru

A college student needs a car. That was my reasoning when I asked my father for permission to purchase my first set of wheels. Oh, he did agree, but he also laid down a set of rules to follow. So I paid the 50 dollars for a 1970 Subaru FF1. Got what I paid for, but that didn’t matter. With my love and care, this was going to be a great car. Granted, it looked weird, but it was dependable and mine.

I soon discovered something amazing; it had front wheel drive! Now that’s no big deal today, but back then it was an unusual feature on cars. It was awesome in the snow and the mud. My friends just had to see how amazing this thing was off road. So, one Easter, I took my friend Butch to the mountain to fling some mud with this “Japanese love bug.”

We got tight. Stuck in mud up to the doors. Granted, the car was light, but the two of us could not force the Pennsylvania “Quick Mud” to let go. We were stuck. That’s when we happened to bump into a group of boys riding their dirt bikes through the mountain. They all agreed to lend a hand and soon the car was free, and so was I. This way I didn’t need to tell my father the car was stuck and that I had broken one of his rules. I was off the hook. Now all I needed was a good car wash.

Facing my father with the problem would have been difficult. He was the last person I wanted to turn to for help. I had really made a mess of things because of a poor choice. Facing our Heavenly Father with our problems can be just as difficult because we don’t want to confess how we’ve messed up our life. After all, we’re adults here, capable of making mature decisions. Are we not in control of our own lives? God has granted us the freedom to make choices, and if I want to mess up my life, isn’t that my right? I suppose it is, but sometimes the mess we get ourselves into is so thick that freeing ourselves from the snare is beyond our capabilities. We just do not have the strength or the wisdom to wrestle ourselves free.

Imagine Jonah in the belly of the great fish at the bottom of the sea. Even if he could figure a way out of the fish, how would he ever make it to dry land? Jonah needed help, and in the darkness of that place he turns to God. And God, who is always there when you call Him, rescues Jonah from the fish and delivers him to dry land.

The same God who saved Jonah is willing to save you as well. I know, it’s like your whole life is stuck in The Pit of Despair. Yet God is willing to rescue you, but only if you will ask. Call out to God this day to break the snare and set yourself free! Only, don’t be too surprised if he sends a gang of bikers your way.

Pastor Greg

“Then the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land”. Jonah 2:10
