Project Hope Helping Pregnant Teens Find Hope

A project is a large or major under-taking, involving considerable money, personnel, resources and equipment. Also, in Latin project means to throw forward. The meaning of hope is to look forward to with desire and expec-tation that things will turn out for the best. Therefore, the purpose and mis-sion of Project Hope is to help preg-nant, young mothers find hope and begin to look forward to a more suc-cessful future and gain back a level of expectation that their mistakes in life will turn out for the best.

Often times, after young adoles-

cent mothers come into an awareness of her pregnancy, they instantly feel hopeless.

The mission of Project Hope is to catapult them from being hopeless to hopeful or full of hope.

We realize that this is a large or major undertaking that involves con-siderable amount of money, person-nel, resources and equipment, however through grants, sponsorships, partner-ships and the like we will remain suc-cessful and fulfilling our purpose.

This project is one of many offered through the Restoration Outreach Cen-

ter, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. Project Hope is a life-long social

services “project”especially designed to assist the needs of pregnant teen-age young women, existing adolescent mothers, and teenage dads ages 13-19.

Project Hope was founded by Prophetess Taketa Williams, Co-Pastor of United Ministries Church and is a program of the Restoration Outreach Center a 501(c)3 non profit organiza-tion focused on offering human ser-vices programs to the community. Allan Houston, who’s expected to play this upcom-ing NBA season for the Phoenix Suns, released a letter to his supporters for their prayers and emails as his daughter Jade underwent heart surgery on August 13th. Below is the letter in its entirety:

Dear Global Gospel and Holy Hip Hop Community Prayer Partners and Friends:

My wife and I cannot express how much we appreciated your prayers for our daughter, Jade, as she underwent heart surgery on August 13, 2008.

The Tuesday night before the sur-gery, I received an overflow of emails of supporters, brothers and sisters in Christ, commanding the Word of God over Jade’s heart condition. Psalm 107:20 ‘He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions’.

Wow! You all have no idea how powerful it was to see hundreds of people with the hearts of God, pulling on His promises, praying and pleading the blood of Jesus over my daughter. No one knew Jade, or me or my wife personally, but the outpouring of sup-port and the love of God displayed was overwhelming to me.

Naturally, right before the surgery, there were moments of anxiety. I then looked down at my blackberry and was reminded hundreds of times that ‘THE EFFECTIVE, FERVENT PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN AVAILS MUCH!!’ Your prayers did not allow those anx-ious thoughts to last long at all. I was reminded she was in not only good hands, but she was in THE hands of

God. Jade’s surgery was quick and the doctors said she will be fine. She recovered wonderfully and she is now home. My mind and writing skills cannot truly articulate how thankful we are for your time and love. This is the love that Christ gives us, when we have a burden for His children, even when we may not personally know them.

A story that I would also like to share: During our 4 days in the hos-pital with our daughter (Jade), next door to us there was a baby boy named Tryistyn, only 3 months old, with a congenital heart failure and stroke. Tristyn has 1 of 2 cases that have ever been diagnosed with this condition. He has not been home since birth and the doctors in one of the best hospitals in the world for this condition literally are not sure how to proceed. I spoke with Tristyn’s mother about all of the prayers we had received from each of you and I felt a heavy burden to ask all of you prayer warriors to pull down on the garment of Jesus again and to uplift Tristyn and Tristyn’s mother in prayer!!! Thank you. JAMES 5:17. Amen.

Blessings and Thank You All Again So Very Much for Your Prayers and Support!!!

Yours Truly,Allan P.S.: I hope to not be over doing

it, but keep me lifted up as this NBA season starts and I go into training camp this year to play. God showed me 4 years ago that He would restore my body to full health and I would be playing in the NBA again for His glory, NOT MINE! I just want the world to know what an awesome God we serve.

NBA player thanks his supporters for their prayers for his daughter.

An Ohio library violated the Con-stitution when it denied Citizens for Community Values (CCV) access to its meeting room. The denial was on the grounds that the event contained “inherent elements of a religious ser-vice.”

Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed suit on March 7 on behalf of organization against the Upper Arlington Public Library Board of Trustees.

The ADF Legal Counsel Tim Chan-dler said that the court agreed that the government cannot treat people with non-religious viewpoints more favorably than people with religious viewpoints. It also concluded that the library’s job is not to determine what elements constitute a religious service and then discriminate on that basis.

Shortly after CCV requested per-mission to hold a seminar in one of Upper Arlington Public Library’s meet-ing rooms the group was denied. A library official noted in the denial that CCV’s proposed activities contained “elements of a religious service” and that the group was therefore prohib-ited from using the room because of the library’s meeting room policy bars “religious services.”

The CCV event is part of a series of meetings held throughout Ohio to explain what current laws and the Bible have to say about Christian polit-ical involvement. The meeting was to include prayer, singing, and a time of thanking God for the freedom Ameri-cans have to take part in the political process. The court found the elements to be protected speech and that prohibi-

tion on use of the meeting room there-fore “constitutes unlawful viewpoint discrimination, and consequently vio-lates Plaintiff’s First Amendment free speech rights.”

“Christian groups have the same First Amendment rights as anyone else in America,” said Chandler. “The only wall that separates religious groups from public meeting rooms is the wall built by government officials who fail to understand the Constitution.”

The full text of the opinion issued by the U.S. District Court for the South-ern District of Ohio, Eastern Division, in Citizens for Community Values v. Upper Arlington Public Library Board of Trustees is available at www.telladf.org/UserDocs/CCVArlingtonOpin-ion.pdf. ADF-allied attorney David Langdon of Cincinnati was co-counsel in the case.

ADF is a legal alliance of Christian attorneys and like-minded organiza-tions defending the right of people to freely live out their faith. Launched in 1994, ADF employs a unique com-bination of strategy, training, funding, and litigation to protect and preserve religious liberty, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family.

Franklin, Hamilton and Cuyahoga County Children Services joined for-mer foster child, Cedric Riley and the Public Children Services Association of Ohio for a foster youth rally on August 19th. The first annual Foster Care Awareness Campaign entitled, “Success Is a Choice!” was inspired by Riley who is now a youth advocate and nationally known motivational speaker. The event was held on the Statehouse lawn (corner of High and Broad Street ) from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 pm.

Hundreds of youth assembled from around the State of Ohio in an effort to raise awareness about the issues they face as children in foster care. “It is our hope that the “Success Is a Choice!” rally will bring much needed attention to the issues foster youth experience on a daily basis,” said Riley. “The mes-sage we hope to convey will deal with topics ranging from self-confidence

and personal achievement to educa-tion and mentorship for youth in the foster care system.”

The program included messages by Cedric Riley, Senator Ray Miller (D-Columbus), Senate Democratic Leader, and various youth from Frank-lin , Hamilton and Cuyahoga County also shared their stories at the rally.

(NAPSI)-Increasingly, academic suc-cess requires parents and children to work as a team. That’s why it’s important for parents to help children prepare by offering advice and tools that will further their academic careers.

That’s the word from Carol Evans, CEO and founder of Working Mother Media--publisher of Working Mother magazine--and mother of two. She believes it’s critical to use every tool and resource available to motivate and help children gain a strong educational foun-dation to further their success--especially in math.

Evans offers these tips to help parents help their children succeed all through the school year.

• Take advantage of all available educational resources for your child.

In a recent Working Mother Smart Mom Council survey, 55 percent of read-ers say math is the most important course for their children’s future success, so make sure your child has the right tools to achieve.

Research has shown that students who use a graphing calculator at home and in class can do better in math (educa-tion.ti.com). For example, the TI-Nspire™ graphing calculator from Texas Instru-ments is designed with computer features

that can help students grasp a deeper understanding of math concepts.

• Make sure your child is prepared for high-stake tests, such as the SAT and ACT exams.

Many parents are not aware that graphing calculators can be used on col-lege entrance exams, giving students a leg up on their score. Students should check out PrincetonReview.com PrincetonRe-view.com for resources that can prepare them for college entrance exams and even let them download free test prep ques-

tions to their TI graphing calculators.• Take advantage of online home-

work help. There are many study group and

tutoring options available to help stu-dents. Online resources, like professional tutors at Tutor.com Tutor.com, are avail-able anytime your child needs help--on their schedule.

• Communicate the benefits of math education: Math is important regardless of what your teen wants to be in life. In fact, studies conducted by the Bureau of

Labor Statistics indicate that people with strong math backgrounds are more likely to be employed and earn more over the course of their lifetime.

• Get to know your child’s guidance counselor and teachers: At the beginning of the school year, become acquainted with your child’s counselors and teach-ers and stay in touch--they have a wealth of information and can ensure that your child is taking the classes that will help to prepare him or her for a successful future.

• Set education and life goals with your children: Before school starts, work with your child to create a list of goals he or she wants to accomplish during the coming semester, school year and beyond. Discuss careers and make sure they’re choosing the courses they need to achieve their goals. Post the goals in a visible spot and review them with your child regularly to ensure you are both on track.

• Make their knowledge applicable to the real world: Help them see how what they learn in school is important in real life, like how they can use math skills every day to make their financial choices and budget their allowances.

It’s always excit-ing to start a new job! To ensure your success you study your job description, so that you have a full understanding of what is required of you. As women, I believe, sometimes we struggle in life situations because we don’t know our

God given job description. Genesis 2:18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone I will make a helper suitable for him.” God knew that he had given Adam such a huge respon-sibility, that he would need someone to love, encourage and pray for him, and help him remain focused in order to achieve his goals, and so God created the woman. When Eve arrived on the scene, everything was already prepared and the instructions had already been

given. She simply needed to follow the instructions. Today our instructions are in the word of God and to ensure that we are doing our job properly as the assistant we simply need to follow the instructions. That means we were not created to be the boss (or bossy) but are here to provide assistance to God, how-ever he deems necessary. That could be through prayer, fasting, encouragement or simply by keeping quiet (help us Holy Spirit!) When we step outside of the role or the duties that were assigned to us, we become frustrated and con-fused, we lose our focus and our sense of accomplishment. God created and ordained us to assist in bringing dreams to reality, raising a responsible genera-tion, speaking life, praying diligently and other duties as assigned. Sounds like a pretty important job to me! Make sure to study your job description daily in the word of God, so that you have clear understanding of what is expected of you, and then just do your job!

By Jessie ToddContributing Writer

The Drink offering mentioned by the Apostle Paul is one of the Old Testament offerings; however it is not one of the five offerings com-manded in the book of Leviticus. The Burnt Offering, the Meal Offering, the Peace Offering, the Sin Offering and the Trespass Offering all allude to Christ and his sacrificial work on the cross. Each offering represents a spe-cial view of Christ and his redeeming work. The Drink Offering, however, represents God’s joy in the completed work of Christ. Although there are references to the Drink Offering in Leviticus, the majority occur in the book of Numbers, especially in chap-ters 28 and 29. The Drink Offering was composed of “strong wine” and was to be poured out on an existing offering.

Once liquid is poured out on the

ground it is immedi-ately absorbed and cannot be reclaimed. Paul’s life-changing decision to serve God illustrated his commitment to being, “poured out” in the service of the Lord. Paul vowed to serve Christ whole-heartedly no matter

what the cost. He later wrote, “. . . I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of know-ing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish that I may gain Christ” (Phil. 3:8).

What does it mean to be “poured out” in the service of Jesus Christ? To be broken and poured out means to submit to a life of service to the cause of Christ. In Genesis 35:14 Jacob poured out a Drink Offering to

signify giving his life back to God. Isaiah said of Jesus, “Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great . . . because he hath poured out his soul unto death . . . and bare the sins of many.” Jesus demonstrated his willingness to yield to a life of sacri-fice throughout his entire existence. While He was on earth Jesus was always about His Father ’s business. He never deviated from His mission; constantly focused on loving God and ministering to His people. If we are to be called the children of God we must be willing to do no less. We recognize that we can never do what Jesus did but we can commit to giving Him our best. We can become bro-ken and poured out vessels, totally committed to His service, instead of straddling the fence between serving God and following the world. We can follow his example by being will-ing to serve rather than be served. Paul advises Christians to, “Live a

life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fra-grant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Eph. 5:2).

Mark 10:45 records that Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” He submitted totally to His Father and to His will, even though it meant facing rejection, physical pain, persecution, and finally submitting to an agonizing death on a cross. Though Jesus understood the high cost of living a life of sacrificial love, He also knew the eternal rewards for being obedient to his father ’s will. God is calling us to a life of sacrifice, to go wherever He sends us, and to minister to whomever He brings into our lives. If we allow God to lead us He will take us on an amazing jour-ney. Are we prepared to go?

Comments may be sent to [email protected].

I am glad and rejoice with all of you” — Philippians 2:17

Susan Ridley is a native of Columbus, Ohio. She and her husband Ralph have been active in the Christian commu-nity for a number of years. Over the years Susan has received various awards including the 1986 Jefferson Award for Com-munity Service.

Her ministry focus has always been “outside the church walls”. She was Founder and Director of the

RAAH Christian Women’s Ministries which estab-lished a half way house for women who had fallen thru the cracks of life and needed a helping hand. Her city wide Prayer Breakfast “RAAH Times of Refreshing” brought women and men together of all denominations. “Evening with Friends” and “Time Out for Marriage” for married couples only, were two outreach programs among numerous others she introduced to inner city communities.

One of Susan’s blessings is her ability to bring people together for various types of gatherings to help impact the gospel. Her real-life, heartfelt, hon-esty and just plain “keeping it real” is the approach she uses to bring healing and wholeness to others. Her current people gathering project is in the form of a Stage Play entitled “Everybody’s Got a But(t).

She’s extremely excited about moving into another level of ministry through play writing. Something she’s done many times before, but kept within the four walls of church settings or local programs.

To accommodate her anticipated overwhelming audience Ms. Ridley’s powerful stage production will be presented in a true theatrical setting at the new McCoy Performing Arts Center. The premiere opening is set for Saturday Oct. 4, 2008 with a mati-nee and evening performance.

About the Play…“Everybody’s got a But(t)” is a musical/comedy

drama that portrays the lives of several people. The main character Mama Dru a well known playwright in the community is in the process of writing a play when an unfortunate mishap takes place.

Her family, along with others came to her aid by writing the script for the play in hopes that it will be ready for the annual community theatre perfor-mance. Mama Dru is shocked and humiliated as they present their idea of the play, for it is not at all what she had in mind.

The plays title “Everybody’s Got A But(t) was misinterpreted from what Mama Dru had intended. In hopes that they will grasp hold of what she means by “but” she presents to them a challenge to inden-tify how the word “but” has caused a hindrance or even an obstacle in their lives.

Unaware of how this powerful 3-letter word has affected them they soon realize that unfulfilled dreams, making excuses, not moving forward, los-ing hope, giving up, blaming others, immobilized by fear, among many other things, has altered their lives.

The conclusion finds them becoming aware of how “but” has stood between them and what they really wanted to do, thus they begin to kick the “buts” from their lives. As they pursue their God-given gifts, talents, creativity, dreams, goals and pas-sions they discover new purposes for life.

A combination of comedy, singing, dancing all make this powerful drama one that will have audi-ences experience real heartfelt life situations while producing belly aching laughter from the audience.

Question: “What does the Bible say about marriage?”

Answer: The divine institution of marriage is recorded in Genesis. “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:23-24). God created man and then made woman out of “bone of his bone.” The process as recorded tells us that God took one of Adam’s “ribs” (Genesis 2:21-22). The Hebrew word literally means the side of a person.

Therefore, Eve was taken from the “side” of Adam and it is at his side

that she belongs. “And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him” (Genesis 2:20). The

words “help and meet” are the same Hebrew word. The word is “ezer” and comes from a primitive root word that means to surround, to protect or aid, help, helper, succor. Therefore, it means to help, assist or aid. Eve was created to be alongside of Adam as his “other half,” to be his aid and his help. A man and woman when married become “one flesh.” The New Testament adds a warning to this “one-ness.” “Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matthew 19:6).

There are several epistles written by the Apostle Paul that speak to the issues that govern a Biblical view of marriage and how born again believ-ers are to operate within their mar-riage relationships. We find one such passage in 1 Corinthians chapter 7 and another in Ephesians 5:22-33. When studied together these two passages provide the believer with Biblical prin-ciples that can be used to form a frame-work for a God pleasing marriage rela-tionship.

The passage found in Ephesians is especially profound in its scope in reference to a successful Biblical mar-riage. “Wives, submit yourselves unto

your own husbands, as unto the Lord For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body” (Ephesians 5:22-23)” “Hus-bands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave him-self for it” (Ephesians 5:25).” So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church” (Ephesians 5:28-29). “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh” (Ephesians 5:31).

When these principles are chosen by a husband and wife in harmony with their relationship as born again believers, this brings about a Biblical marriage. This is not a lopsided rela-tionship, but one that is in balance with the concept of Christ as the head of the man and the wife together. Therefore, the Biblical concept of marriage is a oneness between two individuals that is a picture of the oneness relationship of Christ with His church.

“But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the abil-ity to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.” Deuteron-omy 8:18

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said “I don’t think I know you, but you must be hun-gry. Please come in and have something to eat.”

“Is the man of the house home?”

they asked.“No”, she replied. “He’s out.” “Then we cannot come in”, they

replied. In the evening when her husband

came home, she told him what had hap-pened.

“Go tell them I am home and invite them in!”

The woman went out and invited the men in ““We do not go into a House together,” they replied.

“Why is that?” she asked. One of the old men explained: “His

name is Wealth,” he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, “He is Success, and I am Love.” Then he added, “Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home.”

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband

If you’re thinking of buying a con-dominium, you’ll likely have to a join a condominium association. These associations have insurance, but what do they cover?

Basically, the association’s insur-ance covers the condominium build-ing, commonly owned property, and liability for the association. But that insurance does not cover losses to your unit, such as those resulting from a burglary or water damage. It also

won’t provide liabil-ity coverage for inju-ries in your unit, such as if someone slips on your bathroom floor. That’s why you’ll want to con-sider a condominium insurance policy from American Family Insurance. This cov-erage can protect you

from losses to your personal property and the interior of your unit, and it

will provide you with liability pro-tection for bodily injury or property damage to others.

As you consider condominium insurance, keep in mind that virtually everything you put in your condo—including furniture, personal items and so on—is your responsibility. You need to know the total value of these belongings so you can get the appro-priate amount of coverage.

(NAPSI)-While any relationship can take work, relationships can be espe-cially challenging to develop and main-tain for many of the 500,000 Americans living with Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract that commonly causes persistent diarrhea and abdomi-nal pain. A person with active Crohn’s disease may make up to 20 trips to

the bathroom each day. Typically diag-nosed between the ages of 15 and 35, Crohn’s often strikes during the years when many people are dating and start-ing relationships.

When forming new relationships, people with Crohn’s may struggle with feelings related to the sometimes pain-ful and embarrassing nature of their symptoms; some may experience these

feelings quite intensely.“It’s important to realize that any-

one with whom you are involved in a committed relationship will want to know about you, all of you, not just the parts you choose to share,” says Dr. Amy Trachter, a licensed clinical psy-chologist and author of “Coping with Crohn’s Disease: Manage Your Physi-cal Symptoms and Overcome the Emo-

tional Challenges.”“At some point, talking about the

symptoms that you currently have or had may become part of a discussion.” This can be difficult for some, she adds, because the symptoms of Crohn’s dis-ease are not topics usually considered “socially acceptable conversation.”

Still, she notes, “you’ll know when the timing is right by the level of com-fort and intimacy you have with that person.”

Take Jessica, a 19-year-old sopho-more at the University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point. Since diagnosed with Crohn’s, she has been living with symp-toms of the disease such as weight loss and abdominal pain.

Jessica started dating her boyfriend when her disease was in remission, so she was able to begin her relationship without discussing her Crohn’s. After time, a flare-up of her disease spurred her to tell him about her condition. “He actually went and did some research on his own,” she says, “so I didn’t have to answer all of his questions.” Despite her boyfriend’s research, she adds, it’s important to “teach your significant other about your disease,” so he or she can offer support and understanding.

Currently, Jessica is treating her Crohn’s disease with Abbott’s HUMIRA (adalimumab). Today she says, “things are easier because of the support from my boyfriend, my family and friends. In a way, Crohn’s has actually brought us closer together.”

Dr. Trachter and Jessica provide ddi-tional insights into maintaining healthy relationships with Crohn’s disease in a podcast series called “Crohn’s Casts: Speaking from the Gut.” Abbott cre-ated the series to help Crohn’s disease patients cope with the challenges of their disease, including the emotional aspects of the disease, the importance of proper nutrition and management of personal relationships.

Soul Sessions and Joy 106.3 kicked off their fall concert series by giving us gospel music from an era in which the arrangements were ‘exhilarating, excit-ing, and ANNOINTED!”, in the words of the narrator.

The night opened with the musical genius of three gospel trailblazers, Min-ister Keith Pringle, Rev. Milton Brunson, and Bishop Walter Hawkins. The crowd was on their feet from the first chord struck by Mr. Tim Johnson who served as the Music Director until the last note sang by guest artist Ted Winn, of the infamous gospel duo of Ted and Sherry.

The concert also featured an amaz-ing choir full of powerhouse voices. Their melody was impeccable and their energy was matchless. They took us on a nostalgic journey singing all time gos-pel favorites such as ‘Ain’t No Need to Worry’ by the Winans, ‘You Brought the Sunshine’ by the legendary Clark Sis-ters, and the ultra faith building “Jesus Can Work it OUT!”

‘We are bringing gospel concerts

back to Columbus’ says Mr. Keith Mathis who directed the spirit filled ‘Soul Sessions Community Choir’. ‘We are here to inspire you, uplift you, and also to entertain!’ he concluded.

Needless to say, if you missed the first of the three mind-blowing and inspirational concerts, you surely missed a TREAT! But have no fear……You too can be a part of the next concert and have plenty of time to put the date on your calendar. On Saturday Septem-ber 27th at New Convenant Believers Church, the Soul Sessions Community Choir will take us on a trip back to the 90’s featuring hits by John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin & The Family, Hezekiah Walker & The Love Fellowship Crusade Choir, Fred Hammond and Radical for Christ, and Richard Smallwood with Vision, just to name a few!

For more information about partici-pating in the choir, or purchase tickets for the next concert please contact Lam-ont Tillman at 614.989.5793.

(NAPSI)-As experts continue to call out the latest signs of an approaching recession, businesses respond by cinch-ing up their budgets. But, for those already tasked with keeping their bot-tom line lean, new ways of cutting costs require some creativity. So, from remote cities and towns to large met-ropolitan areas, businesses all over the country are further cutting costs by cutting the cord--the phone cord, that is--and using Internet-based digital telephone service.

Internet telephony technology, oth-erwise known as VoIP (Voice over Inter-net Protocol), lets companies deploy a full-featured business phone system over their existing broadband network for a fraction of the cost of traditional alternatives. For a small business, this can result in significant cost savings as there is no equipment to buy or maintain, and the monthly service fees--which cover unlimited calling and

business-class features--are predictable and fixed.

Technology consultant Joe Rork has seen his home state of Michigan hit hard. Currently serving as chief tech-nologist for Plymouth’s Green Street Fair--an annual event founded to help educate and inform people of all ages about the benefits of green, organic and ecofriendly products and services--he’s turned watching what he spends into an art.

“One of the easiest things I did right off was to be sure we were using Internet technology for our phone sys-tems,” he says. “Not only is it a huge savings for us in terms of cost, it’s the safest and easiest way we can move our office from headquarters to the event location without missing a beat.”

The Green Street Fair has been months in the planning and has used 8x8’s Packet8 Virtual Office digital phone service every step of the way.

More than 150 vendors representing the “green” in everything from food and automotive to health and home are recruited, informed, scheduled and personally attended to up to and throughout the two-day event using powerful, customer-driven calling fea-tures.

With Packet8 Virtual Office, busi-nesses are doing away with their expensive PBX system and the costs that come along with it. The system installs in minutes and is loaded with standard features like auto attendants, unlimited conference calling, music on hold, ring groups, one number dialing and more--all of which can add a big-business feel to an otherwise small-business setup. And because it uses a business’ existing high-speed Internet connection and can be managed online by the customers themselves, the cost

are already naturally geared to work in teams (groups), and making them swing from ropes will not add any more “group behavior” to their genetic makeup.

Secondly, since employees are already geared to work in teams, your primary goal is to integrate teamwork practices into everyday work patterns. It is up to the leaders within the organi-zation to integrate teamwork practices, not the employees.

Lastly, if you announce that the company plans to build teamwork, most employees will respond by ask-ing when the team building practices will be over, so they can get back to work. By announcing your team-build-ing efforts, you will not create addi-tional motivation in your employees to suddenly get them to develop team cohesion.

Steps to Team-Building in the Office:

1.) Define your teams. Most large organizations will have one main team with numerous sub teams. A sub team may be composed

of making calls-and of doing day-to-day business--is considerably less.

Business owner Bert Hamilton of Harvey Software, Inc., in Ft. Myers, Fla., can’t go a day without being reminded of the recession’s increasing impact. His company writes shipping software designed to give customers more control over their shipping costs. And, like Rork, Hamilton uses new technology to keep ahead and keep his customers happy.

Although it took Hamilton a few years to finally switch over to Packet8, he and his customers have been instantly rewarded for mak-ing the change. And, by moving his phone systems away from traditionally architected services, he has sealed the deal on an even greater gain-business redundancy. “Hurricanes are a big

threat to our livelihood here,” remarks Hamilton. “The ability of Virtual Office to allow for redundancy in our com-munications plan isn’t just convenient. It’s a necessity.”

Packet8 isn’t the only thing con-necting Hamilton’s 25-year-old soft-ware company and Rork’s two-day show. It seems they’ve both been able to “go greener” by making the change--for greater energy efficiency and a smaller carbon impact.

Using the Internet to make calls is a technological marvel to some. For oth-ers, it comes down to simply making the smart play. “As to the future of the Internet and its use as a business tool, we’ve barely scratched the surface,” says Bryan Martin, CEO of 8x8, Inc. “What really matters is the choice that businesses have in front of them right now.”

A growing number of small busi-nesses are saving money through Inter-net-based phone service.

(NAPS) — Corporations have been going about building teamwork in some of the strangest ways known to employer and employee. It all began when corporations started having employees hang from ropes, next came having employees shoot each other with paintballs, and now some corpo-rations are trying to build teamwork by having employees participate in inflatable-sumo-wrestling. What will the future hold? Will corporations be asking their employees to swim with dolphins to build teamwork, or per-haps group parachuting will be the key to transforming your squabbling employees into a winning team.

Conduct a search on the Internet, and you will quickly realize just how ridiculous team-building exercises are becoming for both employers and employees. Therefore, if I may take a moment to speak on your employees’ behalf: “PLEASE…PLEASE…do not make your employees participate in human foosball, comedy karaoke, or sing in a music video with the com-pany CEO in order to build teamwork.” Now, if I may take a moment to speak to the HR manager(s) in the company. “Team sailing, employee Olympics, and having all your employees ride around on All-Terrain Vehicles may be fun, but ask yourself this question: does a fun team sport really add up to more team-

work back in the office?”If comedy karaoke and human

foosball will not develop your employ-ees into a well-oiled self-directed team, what will? It’s simple, if you want to build employee teamwork, do it in the office and do not tell your employees you’re doing it. Why keep it a secret? It is important to keep any teamwork activities that you do a secret for three reasons.

First, employees are human, well most of them anyway, and humans are social animals that gravitate to work in groups versus individually if given the opportunity. Therefore, employees

of just one employee and employees may be on several different sub teams.

2.) Setup a meeting and ask each sub team to define their goals, and what would be helpful for them to have from the other sub teams within the department. You will need to prepare your employee for this meeting by letting them know ahead of time what they will be asked, so they can prepare proper responses. End the meeting after all participants have reported to each other their goals and needs. Do not mention the words teamwork or team building.

3.) In future meetings, ask employees to report what assis-tance they are receiving from other sub teams. Focus only on the posi-tives, and applaud those sub teams that have assisted other sub teams. It may take a few meetings for employees to pick-up on the trend of asking how other sub teams are assisting, so don’t give up if your employees are slow to report. Remember, be mindful not to mention the words teamwork or team-building.

4.) Incorporate sub team assis-tance as a performance review item during employees’ performance reviews. Be direct by asking employ-ees to report how they have assisted other sub teams while they met their own goals.

These are the basic skills necessary to build teamwork within your organi-zation’s various sub teams. Remember that your employees are already geared to operate in groups; all you need to do is integrate teamwork practices into your organization’s operations. Hence, please cancel the inflatable-sumo-wres-tling team-building exercise you have planned for next week.

(NAPSI)-Although breakfast may be the most important meal, it’s also the most skipped meal of the day. It has been reported that as many as 40 per-cent of girls and 32 percent of boys skip breakfast on a regular basis.

The benefits of breakfast and good nutrition are well documented--chil-dren’s learning is stimulated; there-fore, they perform better academically when “fueled for school.” And there are benefits beyond increased learning--studies show marked improvements in attendance and behavior and fewer inci-dences of problems such as depression, anxiety and hyperactivity when break-fast has been part of a child’s morning.

So with today’s hectic family life-styles, how do you make sure your morning routine becomes a healthy one? The National Frozen & Refriger-ated Foods Association (NFRA) sug-gests it can be as easy as opening your freezer or refrigerator door. Frozen and refrigerated foods are quick and easy, tasty and nutritious and can help you and your family start the day in a very good way.

Stock up and have these delicious, quick breakfasts at your fingertips:

• Toast whole grain waffles, pan-cakes and/or French toast; top with fro-zen berries.

• Top a toasted bagel with peanut butter and serve with fruit.

• Create a peanut butter and jam-filled waffle sandwich and serve with orange juice.

• In a blender, mix together nonfat yogurt, frozen strawberries, skim milk and bananas for a delicious smoothie.

• Make a tasty shredded cheese omelet and serve with precooked sau-sage.

• Create a yogurt parfait by layer-ing your favorite yogurt flavor with granola and fruits.

• And when you are really in a rush, try the many breakfast bars, bowls and sandwich selections, ready to heat and serve in minutes.

Treat your family to this twist on the traditional waffle breakfast:

travel : RELAxATION & RETREATS

(NAPSI)-The proverbial question “What do women want?” begs for a follow-up in later years: “What do Moms want?”

A recent online survey conducted for Beaches Resorts by Massachu-setts-based Mom Central Consulting revealed that nearly 90 percent stated they would opt for the ease and relax-ation of an all-inclusive resort and that significant price savings would convince them to travel during the fall.

For moms, the best part of stay-ing at an all-inclusive resort is that everything is part of the package. There are no financial surprises. As one mom said, “Having everything included took so much of the thought and worry out of it; we could just focus on having a great time.”

According to Mom Central’s Stacy DeBroff, heralded by The Wall Street Journal as “a parenting guru,” the popularity of fall travel is a sign of

today’s more challenging economic times. “Moms want a vacation that is fun and engaging for the entire fam-ily. During the fall, moms can experi-ence all they prefer in a family vaca-tion, from a beachfront location to the all-inclusive pricing they love,” DeBroff said. “With WonderFALL at Beaches Resorts, moms don’t have to compromise.”

To accommodate these moms, Beaches Resorts, featuring four Luxury Included® resort locations in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos, has introduced an annual season of events and activities called WonderFALL. Set to take place throughout September and October, WonderFALL offers phenomenal sav-ings (up to 45 percent off plus two free nights for a family of four) as well as Beaches Resorts Caribbean Adven-tures with Sesame Street, where kids can spend their vacation with their favorite furry friends from the Sesame Street gang; Poolside Movie Premieres,

where guests will get an exclusive sneak preview of Sesame Street star Abby Cadabby’s new movie “Abby in Wonderland”; and even family learn-ing adventures hosted by the experts from Sesame Workshop.

Fall is an easy, family-friendly time to travel. With the summer rush over, airport lines are shorter and travel

destinations generally less congested. “Fall is a great time to travel and we’re glad to have moms’ stamp of approval on it,” Maggie Rivera, direc-tor of public relations for Beaches Resorts, said.

For more information, call your travel agent or 1-800-BEACHES or visit www.beaches.com.

the mood for an Art Deco kitchen that’s great for entertaining. A recycled reading table does double duty when it expands to create a full-size dining table. And a small bathroom vanity maximizes stor-age when flanked with two bookcases. The magazine offers samplings of proj-ects that can add beauty, convenience and style to a home.

There are suggestions on how to adapt these ideas to fit specific needs and rooms throughout your house. For example, custom-built oak benches that are made for a bay window can easily be placed anywhere you need extra storage and seating.

The magazine from Minwax is free at hardware stores and home centers and through minwax.com, where you can also obtain wood-finishing tips and product ideas.

She jumped in with her own sugges-tion: “Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!”

“Let us heed our daughter-in-law’s advice,” said the husband to his wife.

“Go out and invite Love to be our guest.”

The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, “Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest.”

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: “I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?”

The old men replied together: “If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would’ve stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!!!!”

God is Love. Once you have cho-sen Him, all else will follow.

We are told in Deuteronomy 8:18 that God gives us “the ability to pro-duce wealth” with the prerequisite of “remembering the Lord your God.” This is not a name it and claim it les-

son. Nor is it a prosperity message. Although both are granted by God, they both come with prerequisites and at a cost. Salvation is free but it came at a great cost.

The terms wealth and prosperity are synonymous. The Bible speaks of prosperity as well as wealth and they are interchangeable. Before we go any further, let’s get the Biblical definition of prosperity. Prosperity in Hebrew translates as “a successful journey.” The most simplistic and down to earth so you can understand it definition that I have come across for Biblical prosper-ity comes from Dr Fredrick Haynes III, pastor of the Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.

Biblical prosperity - God giving you what you need to get where He wants you to go so you can give glory and honor to Him and be a blessing to somebody else.

This definition contradicts the world’s system. That’s why before this principle there was a need for Prin-ciple 1 (God Owns Everything And Everything Belongs To God, Principle 2 (Invest Wisely), and Principle 3 (Choose Ye This Day). God’s way can produce success, wealth, and prosperity but it is based on God’s methods.

Back to our text (Deuteronomy 8:18), God gives us “the ability to produce

sunlight from page 20

Millionaire from page 13wealth.” Notice that it says “wealth” not an “income.” God gives us the power to produce wealth. He allows us to make an income, but the power to produce wealth can come from different sources. Today, we will only discuss the power to produce wealth from our income.

If you work 40 years and average an income of $25,000 you will have earned $1,000,000. You would have been a millionaire if you had kept all that you had earned. This amount came gradu-ally so by man’s standard you are not a millionaire because this money is not at your disposal. By the Biblical standard of prosperity (God giving you what you need to get where He wants you to go so you can give glory and honor to Him and be a blessing to somebody else), you are a millionaire. By using your income God’s way you can become a millionaire by man’s standards.

God requires that we choose Him rather than money. He does not give us a particular formula to use to manage our finances but there are certain stan-dards that should be followed:

1) Tithing - Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,” says the LORD Almighty.” (Malachi 3:10-11)

2) Saving and investing - “Steady plodding brings prosperity.” (Proverbs 21:4, LB), Joseph gathered during the 7 years of plenty to provide for the 7 years of famine (Genesis 41), parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30)

3) Living - “But seek first his king-dom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

To walk into your millionaire flow, we recommend a 70-20-10 Rule. As aforementioned, this is not a Biblical formula but it adheres to Biblical stan-dards.

70-20-10 Rule70% - operational20% - savings, investments, or debt

payoff10% - tithes The 70-20-10 Rule in a nutshell is

the taking of your gross income and applying 10 percent to tithes, 20 percent to savings/investments/debt payoff, and use the other 70 percent for living expenses. This is how your income can produce wealth.

Based on the example above, work-ing 40 years and averaging $25,000 a year, you would be a millionaire, but more than likely the money will not be there because you would have spent most of it. Utilizing the 70-20-10 Rule, which adheres to our Biblical mandates, God, has given your income the power

to produce wealth.70% of 25,000 = $17,500 or 1458.33

a month20% of 25,000 = $ 5,000 or 416.66 a

month10% of 25,000 = $ 2,500 or 208.33 a

monthPlacing the 416.66 a month into a sav-

ings/investment instrument that yields 10 percent a year will yield $1,581,907 after 35 years. The yield is $2,634,991 after 40 years. So in the example above, your 40 years of a $25,000 income has produced wealth.

This is only one way that God will give you the power to produce wealth. This is from your income.

The formula works, will you work it?

You may be asking, where can I get an investment that is yielding 10%? How can anyone live off 1458.33 a month (70 percent of 25,000 per month)? I don’t have 40 years left until retire-ment, what if I only have 10 years left until retirement?

Those are all valid questions and I wish I had time in this article to share the answers. Traditionally, a 10% return is found in real estate, stock market, and small businesses. For now, meditate on the 70-20-10 Rule. We will dive into Wealth Building tools when we have mastered the 70-20-10 Rule.

Stay tuned. Next article will feature “Debt FREE Living Principle #5 – Give God What Is Right, Not What Is Left”
