25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of

all and the servant of all.” (Mark 9:35)

Jesus teaches us that we are called to serve one another.

Sacrifice is not a word that many people like to hear.

We think it means that we must give up something that

we want. However, the literal meaning of sacrifice is

“to make holy,” from the words “sacer” = sacred and

“facere” = to make. In other words, we make our lives

holy by sharing our gifts in the service of God.

The Cedar

The Cedar Tree is a wonderful type of a Christian. It

grows by dying! As it develops, stately and beautiful,

putting forth new boughs and leaves—the old ones drop

to give strength to the new ones. Likewise the Chris-

tians live to die and die to live. Thus when we sacrifice,

we are made Holy! (Adapted from the prose of Vernon Hart).

Mission Cooperative Appeal

Many dioceses right here in the United States do not

have enough priests and trained lay ministers to serve

their parishes. These dioceses are known as home

missions. The Missions Cooperative Appeal will take

place this weekend and supports these dioceses by

funding essential ministries, including seminary edu-

cation and lay ministry training. Your generosity

strengthens the Church at home.

CATHOLIC FOCUS

As Catholic Christians we are called by our Lord to con-

tinue our understanding and knowledge of our Catholic

faith, the Sacred Scriptures, and our need to share our

faith with others. These areas are covered in our Catholic

Focus class every Sunday morning at 9:45 AM in the

Catholic Focus room in the Faith Formation building.

We receive our lessons for the week (on a monthly basis)

via email--to download and prepare for the lesson on the

following Sunday. The lessons are based on the Mass

Scriptures for that particular week. We have a catechist

that leads the class as we ponder and discuss how the

Scriptures encourage us to actually "LIVE AND APPLY

THEIR UNDERSTANDING TO THE MANNER IN

WHICH WE LIVE OUR LIVES". Adults of all ages are

welcome. We look forward to meeting and greeting you

as we grow in our knowledge of God's Calling in our

lives-to become the Disciples and Stewards we are

"called" to be. Please stop by and see for yourselves.

WE WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME ANY NEW PARISHIONERS AND ENCOURAGE

YOU TO REGISTER WITH THE PARISH. REGISTRATION FORMS ARE LOCATED IN THE CHURCH

ON THE STAND IN FRONT OF THE CONFESSIONAL. OR YOU MAY STOP BY THE

PARISH OFFICE AND REGISTER MONDAY-FRIDAY 8:30 am - 4:00 pm.

RCIA Classes

RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a pro-

cess through which adults are initiated into the Catholic

Church and our St. Boniface Parish

community.

Classes began on September 3, 2015 and will go through

the Easter season. You still have time to sign up if you

wish. Classes will begin at 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on

Thursday nights. For more information or to sign up for

the class, please contact Father Martino at 706-825-3032

or the Parish Office 754-7473 to fill out an application.

What is VIRTUS All About?

VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children for Adults live

training is a valuable tool in helping all adults under-

stand the dangers our society poses to youth and

gives us the resources to protect them to the best of

our ability. The program is simple in design yet pow-

erful in its message. The three-hour training was de-

signed by experts in the educational field to incorpo-

rate a balance of visual, audio, kinesthetic and verbal

components in order to help every type of learner

walk away with knowledge regarding child predators.

Virtually all volunteers and employees in our parishes

and schools are required to attend the live train-

ing. Additionally certain people are also required to

visit their VIRTUS online profile each month to read

a short training bulletin. Watch the bulletin for train-

ing sessions that will be offered here at St. Boniface

in the near future. If you signed up for a Ministry you

will need to take this training before you can actively

participate.
