Jackson Lawson has been my friend for as long as I can remember. He was one of the finest Christian gentlemen I ever knew.

The first time I met him was at the Gerty Commu-nity Center. That day I played dominoes with Jackson, Preacher Miller and one other that I can’t remember.

Winning or losing didn’t matter to Jackson. He had fun playing and always had a smile.

In over a century of living he touched many lives and mine was one of them.

His life will not be remembered for how long he lived but for how he lived.

—CC—Recently Wayne Bullard, Kerry Caldwell and myself

had a great visit. I believe if the three of us were in charge of the country we could correct all of the prob-lems within a week.

Wayne was my mother’s favorite columnist (yes, that includes me). She wanted the Advocate every week to see what he had written.

The following Monday evening she would share his comments with the ladies at Domino Night.

Dayna and I will never forget the evening we dropped an Advocate and a Tribune by her house.

She was flipping thru the pages and then out of the blue looked up at us and said me and Wayne Bullard are the best parts of your papers.

I am sure it just slipped her mind that Dayna and I also write a column.

Whether you’re working on a large excavation or simply planting a tree in your yard, natural gas and utility line safety should always be job one – and that starts with calling 8-1-1 to have your utility lines marked. By doing so, you can be certain where your electric, gas, water and other important lines are located as well as avoid causing serious injuries, service interruptions or possibly costly fi nes for damaged infrastructure. Make the call. It’s easy, and free. Respect the lines. Dig with care. After all, safety is in your hands …but always on our mind.

We wish to take this opportunity to thank our friends and neighbors for their support during the recent loss of our loved one. The gifts of flowers and food, and the calls, cards and prayers were greatly appreciated. A special thank you to Bro. Buddy Drake and Rev. Gary Dodson, and to the singers for the beautiful service; and to the ladies of the Richmond Avenue Free Will Baptist Church for the delicious meal. We also wish to thank those that made donations to the Citra Cemetery in Jackson’s name.

Matthew McCarnGone But Not Forgotten

10/3/94 – 9/17/13“These Empty Arms”

These empty arms yearn for you,my precious baby boy.

While on this earth you broughtyour Momma so much joy.

This year you’d have been turning 20I wonder what you would have become.

I know God must have needed you,to take from me my precious only son.

I remember how you’d make me laugh, even when I was boiling mad.

I miss you so very much, my son,and this makes me very sad.

I bet it is pretty cool up there in Heaven, getting to hear the Angels sing.

I can’t wait to join you in Heaven, son, what a joy that meeting will bring.

Until my work on earth is through,I will just have to wait.

Ask God for me one favor please,to let you be there to greet me at the gate. Love Always,

Mom, Dad, Heather & Hope
