Job 29:11-16 (NRSV)

11 When the ear heard, it commended me, and when the eye saw, it

approved; 12 because I delivered the poor who cried, and the orphan

who had no helper. 13 The blessing of the wretched came upon me,

and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. 14 I put on

righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a

turban. 15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. 16 I was a

father to the needy, and I championed the cause of the stranger.

Luke 10:1-3 (NRSV)

1 After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on

ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself

intended to go. 2 He said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the

laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out

laborers into his harvest. 3 Go on your way. See, I am sending you

out like lambs into the midst of wolves.

ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of

God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to

judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy

Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and

the life everlasting. Amen.
