PQW News August 4, 2017 Edition
Every quilter’s dream is to spend an uninterrupted day devoted just to quilting, and we’ve devised a way to give you just that. Our Day at the Quilting Spa has become a perennial favorite and it is back this year with another new mystery quilt from Debbie Caffrey.
Envision a day when you set up your work area and begin to sew. Before long someone offers you coffee, or maybe tea. At noon, enjoy your own bag lunch while you take a break and chat with some friends, whether old or new.
Back to work, but who wants to face ripping out that mistake? Don’t worry, we’ll have it all fixed for you. Light refreshments are ready in the afternoon,
and by the time you’re ready to leave you’ll be well on your way to a finished quilt top.
The best part? Purchase your fabrics for the quilt at Pennington Quilt Works, and your Day at the Quilting Spa is free!! The pattern, snacks, drinks, and any help you need is on us.
When you register for the Spa, you’ll be given a supply list and some preparation instructions. Bring everything on your spa day and we’ll provide the rest of the directions, step by step, at the pace you’d like. Stay as long as you’d like.
Register now for Friday September 1; 10 am–5 pm, OR Sunday, September 17; 9 am–4 pm, OR Friday, September 22; 10 am–5 pm

No Guilt Quilt
This is a “No Guilt Quilt”. All you need
to make the blocks for this quilt is one
jelly roll and 1-1/2 yards of back-
ground fabric. Very little fabric
remains. There is no waste. It is a
very traditional quilt, but the
scrappiness makes it uniquely yours.
This quilt is simple, scrappy and
stunning. The piano key border
perfectly complements the diversity of
the fabric in the quilt blocks. This is an
advanced beginner class

Cartwheels Paper Piecing
Ready to turn some cartwheels? Paper
piecing is an easy way to use your
sewing machine to create blocks with
unusual patterns and images that can’t
be easily achieved with traditional
piecing methods. Using the Cartwheels
pattern we will practice the method
with smaller units that are joined to
make a whole block. This is a
technique-only class—you may work
on the pillow front, the quilt itself or
just use some fabric to practice the
skill. Note: This is not a class for English
paper piecing (EPP), which is done
totally by hand.
Required: pattern

T-Shirt Quilt
Gather your old t-shirts and use them
to make a memory quilt, adapting the
pattern to meet your needs and t-
shirts. We will discuss several design
options, learn to prepare the blocks
and begin to put them together. We
will also consider photo printing on
fabric as a possibility for inclusion in
future quilts. This is a design and
technique class only, so we will not
complete the quilt in class.
Required: rotary cutting skills and the
knowledge of quilt construction are
required for this class

.
Or think bright fabrics or pastel

class, you’ll use a number of
different piecing methods to
assemble the blocks, including flying
geese and corner units in both
rectangle and squares. This is a good
skill building block.

Private Class For times when a regularly scheduled class just won’t do, we offer private classes
to fill the void. Let’s say that a class you're interested in requires rotary skills, and
you’re still snipping along with scissors. Well a 1-hour private class will bring you
up to speed. Or say that you really want to get the hang of paper-piecing or some
other skill. Or maybe our classes just don’t fit in your schedule. Talk to any one of
us and we’ll find you the right person at the right time to teach you what you
need to know.
$25 per hour per person.
