“God’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday, September 9

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday will be Sunday, September 9, 2018. This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evan-gelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. It happened in your Baptism. You may not remember – if you were baptized as an infant – but in those grace filled waters, God placed a claim upon your life and mine. That loving claim is about God’s gra-cious hold upon from the cradle to the grave. And within those drop-lets, words were spoken, “Let your light so shine that all may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (ELW Pg 227 Sacra-ment of Holy Baptism) Anything and everything we do that is good and right and loving comes to us and through us because of God. When we share this incredible love, the glory goes to God. God’s Work. Our hands. Is a day to live out our baptismal calling in a real and tangible way. We wear yellow t-shirts and proclaim God’s love in service to our neighbors. Nancy Judson and Carol McDivitt have done a fantastic job organizing this year’s event. Sign up! Pitch in!

40 and Forward! It’s our Birthday! We’re 40 years young!

Thank you for attending the Council Coffee Chat on August 12. I heard there was strong support for our ‘three pronged fork’ of Visioning, Stewardship and Staffing. Stay tuned…I’m lining up households so we can have neighborhood conversations and dream together about all that God is calling us to do and be. If you wish to host, please call me! Below is a review of where we’re headed this fall!

Neighborhood visits this fall like I did when I first arrived, in the spring of 2015. We will designate neighborhoods and a house in that neighborhood where members can gather to

talk and listen and dream. Two nights a week September through mid-October. (If you wish to offer your house as a gathering place, please contact me!)

A retreat for teams. Encourage and thank teams for ministry they do. We are blessed with faithful volun-teers! Now…dream. What do you want to continue? One thing (not four) do you want to do new in 2019? A small team synthesizes the listening sessions and team retreat.

A “40 and Forward document”…a goal list…a roadmap will be drafted and presented to Council and the congregation.

A catch phrase will be coined for the next year to live by which represents our “40 and Forward” roadmap. Then, of course, we need to celebrate! We must have a KOG Birthday / Anniversary party. Food, cake,

dreams….here’s to the who we are and whose we are! This is a new chapter. Will you join me in prayer and excitement for what God has in store?

Do not remember the former things or consider the things of old. 19 I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

…..to give drink to my chosen people, 21

the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise. (Isaiah 49:18-21)

God bless us with your Spirit! Amen

Changing of the Sign

Sharon and Don McDaniel have faithfully changed the

wording on our sign for the last year! We would like to have

an additional team or individual to help. We change it every 1-2 weeks. It

takes 30-45 minutes. If you would like to help, please call the office!

UPCOMING EVENTS

A Gift for the Holidays!

Veterans! Active Military personnel! This is a concert and gift just for you!

November 30, Michael Peterson will be performing here at King of Glory. Michael, raised a good Lutheran and attended Pacific Lutheran University, was on track to be an award winning country musician. But God tapped him on the shoulder and said, “I’ve got something else planned for your life.” Michael felt a calling to support military personnel with his music. He’s gone on tours overseas and his latest album was number one in England for the last ten weeks! His songs are about vets, their families and things that matter to those who have served under the ranks of all branches. You won’t want to miss this concert! Mark your calendars, November 30th!

Staffing Update

Thank you for your support at the Council Coffee Chat on August 12 for our two new staff positions! The Worship and Music Minister po-sition will close on August 24 with interviews to follow. We plan to post the Deacon position with the Synod on September 4th. This is will be a slightly longer process, but we trust that God will bring us the person who is called to KOG. A Deacon is a rostered position (just as Pas-tor is ‘rostered’ or on the roster of the ELCA). But a pastor is called to Word and Sacrament, while a deacon is called to Word and Service. A deacon has had theological training to teach, preach, and serve. Deacons sometimes serve as public school teachers, work in nursing homes, or in congregations de-pending upon where they feel God calling them to use their gifts! Please hold the process in your prayers!

Mental Health Awareness Saturday and Sunday, October 13-

14

Many families have a loved one that strug-gles with mental illness or mental well-being. We know that depression, chronic or situation-al, strikes millions of Americans each year. In addition there are other diagnosable illnesses that suck life out of the joy of daily living. Many homeless are go without shelter because of untreated mental conditions. On October 13-14, our worship will remem-ber and honor those who live with mental ill-ness. We’ll light candles of hope and pray for all we love. Mark your calendar! God loves every one of God’s children.

Holy Land Trip 2019

June 23 - July 3, 2019

Prs Joel and Sonja Pancoast lead with Good Shepherd Travel

We are excited to offer the opportunity to vis-it the Holy Land in the summer of 2019. This is a wonderful experience to walk in the foot-steps of Jesus with fellow members of our faith community. In addition to seeing the amazing historical sites from the past, we will see the work that the Lutheran Church is doing in Pal-estine to bring hope to this conflicted region. The total cost for the trip is $3390 which in-clude airfare, ground transportation in Israel and Palestine, all meals, hotels, and profes-sional guides. It does not include soft drinks, tips to guides, travel insurance, or souve-nirs. To reserve your place you will need to send in a deposit of $300 and a copy of pass-port along with the reservation application to Good Shepherd Travel. An additional payment of $750 per person is due on September 23, 2018. For more info pick up a brochure from the office.

Report from Pittsburgh Training

What do 307 individuals representing 32 states and 4 countries all choosing to gather to-gether in Pittsburgh have in common? Well, if you answered Stephen Ministries Leader Train-ing... You are absolutely correct! I was pleased to represent KOG at this confer-ence just a few weeks ago. This experience for me was truly amazing! Incredible how we are all so different and represent several denomina-tions. Yet we all serve the same purpose. We are all striving to provide quality one-to-one Christian care to people who are hurting. This conference provided us the knowledge, strength and, ability to equip us in assisting others within this very much needed ministry. The entire week we were all reminded that “We are the caregiv-ers” and “God is the curegiver” This conference was absolutely a life chang-ing event in my life. I am excited and look for-ward to sharing all that I have learned with oth-ers. I am very appreciative to all who assisted in giving me this wonderful opportunity. Nancy French
