LEADERSHIP

This Saturday September 17th is a memorable day Guardian Angels Parish. We are kicking off the parish leadership structure which will assist in setting the mission and the vision and also guide this parish for the next 150 years. This Leadership structure consists of a central leadership group, the Parish Council. This council has arching oversight and visioning responsibilities. The Parish Council is made up of three (3) members at large and one (1) member from each of the commissions. This BIG PICTURE visioning entity works together with the commissions more specific to each ministry. Basically this structure emphasizes the primary stakeholders, the parishioners are the leaders. This means if you are committed to one of the six (6) commissions, or the Finance Council, you are engaged in the decision making and the running of Guardian Angels parish. The commissions which consist of six (6) members are: Administration, Faith Formation, Parish Life, Pastoral Care, School and Worship along with the Finance Council consists of six (6) members. These are not necessarily the doers. They are more the visionaries with the number of different committees reporting to them. We will be meeting one evening per month on the second Thursday. We will start with Mass at 5:30 and then break bread together cooked by the Daughters of Isabella. A short program or speaker will follow and then each commission will meet separately. The Parish Council will have a meeting after the commission meetings. As we grapple with this leadership structure in its first year we will have the opportunity to look back and make changes, changes which will improve our parish leadership for a strong Guardian Angels future.

Mass Intentions … Mass intentions may be for the living and the departed, with a + designating in the bulletin a deceased person. There is a $10 suggested donation per Mass intention. Permission from the sick person or his/her family must be granted before a name’s inclusion in these prayers. To schedule a Mass intention, call Jean in the parish office.

Baptism … Sacramental preparation is required for all parents. Godparents and Grandparents are also encouraged to attend. Baptismal prep sessions are given every other month and Baptism Masses are held once a month. Call Jean in the parish office to schedule a child for Baptism and the parents for baptismal prep.

Prayers of the Faithful ….If you would like a name included in our Prayers of the Faithful for the sick, please call the Parish Office.

Penance...Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and anytime by appointment.

Matrimony...pre-registration required one year in advance; marriage preparation course is required.

Anointing… If you wish to receive an anointing please call the parish office.

Communion for the Homebound...When we come together to pray at our Eucharistic liturgy, we do not forget the members of our community who are unable to be with us because of ill health. We remember them in our prayer, and we wish to include them in our Holy Communion. Members of our community bring the Blessed Sacrament to them to comfort them and to unite them with us in the Eucharist. We are not always aware of those who have this need. Please call the Parish Office to let us know if you or a member of your family would like to have Holy Communion brought to them. That way we can schedule a time for our ministers to visit and bring the Sacrament.

Hospital, Nursing Home, Homebound Visits...Churches are no longer notified by hospitals or nursing homes when a parishioner is admitted unless the family has requested it. If you or a family member are homebound, hospitalized or in a nursing home and would like a visit from a member of the pastoral ministry staff, please call Jean Rief in the parish office.

Parish Information

Are you Tech Savvy?

If so...Guardian Angels Faith Formation has two technology needs that you could help with.

*The first is video editing our weekly opening prayer. As you may know our entire Wednesday Evening Program prays together via video. In the years past Eric Crowell has done the editing for this, he has since left GA and is now working at the University of Minnesota. The school technology teacher has offered to train anyone interested in being a part of this much needed ministry!

*Our second need is for the FF portion of the website! We need a face lift, some sprucing up, a little TLC! Once it is updated, we would then need someone to maintain the site.

If either of these technology ministries interests you, or if you have an idea of someone I could ask, please contact Emily Klinker 952-227-4007!

Volunteer Needed Giving Tree Ministry

Our Christmas Giving Tree has long been a wonderful way our Parish has given to people in our community dur-ing the Christmas season. Patty Glaeser and her son have head this up the last several years but are looking for others to help out. . .. What’s involved… Contact organizations and get a list of their needs. …..*Make tags for the tree. …..*Collect and deliver gifts. …..*Go shopping for missing gifts. This ministry runs from October to December and is great for a family to do together.

If you have questions or are interested in volunteering, contact Patty at 361-6938 or Jean Rief at 227-4095.

Faith Formation Wednesday Evening Faith Formation begins THIS Wednesday, all families please go directly to the gym at 6:15pm. We will begin our year in prayer and then the children will go to their classrooms with their catechists and the parents will stay in the church with Fr. Doug and Ms. Klinker for some additional information.

Have you been meaning to sign up to help with Faith Formation all summer long, but just haven’t gotten to it? Well it is not too late, we would love to have you join this very important ministry. Our immediate needs are for Sunday School and Children’s Liturgy of the Word catechists, and RCIA and Confirmation presenters. If these are not roles that interest you, we have other needs too - please contact Emily Klinker with any questions on how you can be volunteer.

Important upcoming FF dates • Children’s Liturgy begins October 1st • Sunday School begins October 2nd • Year 2 Confirmation Parent Sponsor Student meeting October 9th • First sacrament parent meeting October 15th

As we celebrate Catechetical Sunday with all other Catholic parishes in the United States, please remember to pray with and for our catechists at Guardaian Angels.

A Catechist’s Prayer

Father of all families, you have called me to serve the family in truth and love as a catechist. May I be faithful to this call, rooted in your Word, and open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

May I use these gifts, especially the gifts of faith, hope and love, to serve the family as a witness to you, who are love and life and the source and destiny of all families.

Let your Spirit enlighten my mind and strengthen my heart so that I can be a path of Christ’s love to families, especially those in need, the homebound and aged, the disabled and disheartened.

Through the intercession of Mary and Joseph, I pray for the Church, the Bride of Christ, whose mission to build a civili-zation of love passes through the family.

Amen

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is getting ready to begin in just a few short weeks…

… if we have at least 2 more volunteer catechists!

Children’s Liturgy is a during the 5pm Mass throughout the school year for children in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Children’s Liturgy of the Word essentially is worship, not catechesis. We do not take part in CLOW first and foremost to receive information. We do not engage in CLOW in order first of all to receive a message to put into practice in life. We take part in CLOW simply because it is what it claims to be: a liturgy—a moment of salvation in which the living God commu-nicates life to God’s holy people and in which that people respond with adoration, praise, thanksgiving and petition.

Unity of the Assembly Sunday is the day of the assembly of the local church. The principle of the unity of the assembly precedes other considerations on this day. This is why our children do not totally celebrate a “children’s mass” apart from adults. The overall celebration is not geared exclusively for one section of the assembly. CLOW is a liturgical experience of God’s presence in the ritual proclamation of the Word. During mass, after the opening prayer, the children are called forth by the presider and then are sent forth with a catechist for their own Liturgy of the Word in St. Francis Hall. The children return during the preparation of the gifts. Emphasis during the children’s liturgical experience is on ritual not learning. The minister uses a three step process that includes:

• Step 1: We listen to God speak. The readings are adapted to the language of the child while still maintaining the integrity of the Word.

• Step 2: We reflect on the Reign of God. After drawing from the children what they heard God say to them, we share questions that invite the children to reflect on what difference God's Word makes in their life.

• Step 3: We respond to God’s Word. Finally we explore with the children what they are going to do now that they have heard God’s Word.

What happens at a Children’s Liturgy of the Word

1. All gather in the main church for the gathering rite

2. After the opening prayer, the presider calls the children forward and presents the book of God's Word to the children’s minister of the Word

3. The children follow their leaders to the chapel for their celebra-tion of the Word at their own level

4. The children’s Liturgy of the Word follows the structure of the celebration by the adults: Old Testament Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation, Gospel Proclamation, reflection by the children’s minister of the Word, Creed and Prayer of the Faithful

5. The children return to the assembly main church during the preparation of the gifts as together, we celebrate Eucharist around the table as one family of faith.

So will you be one of the 2 needed catechists so that we can con-tinue with this ministry for our children? You DO NOT need to have children in the program, you only need to have a desire to share our faith with the children. Please contact Emily Klinker with any questions or to volunteer. 952-227-4007

Choosing a Healing Path: Labyrinth as a Path of Prayer and Healing

Divorce and beyond is an unplanned journey, one we did not expect or hope for on our wedding day. But the journey forward can bring hope and healing. The Labyrinth in an ancient meditation used by “pilgrims” as a pilgrimage “walk” without leaving home. We will use the imagery of “walking the labyrinth” as our prayer guide.

Speaker: Zara Renander, Turning Point Consultants and International

Pilgrimage Leader has worked with churches and communities following

Katrina and is interested in using the labyrinth as part of a healing path.
