Peter Tosh was more than a luminary in the development of reggae music. He was the ultimate firebrand,

speaking out against oppression around the world in both his songs and his public statements. He was a

man who demonstrated the power of personal and artistic integrity, and pride and defiance in the face

of authoritarian power. His music’s insurrectionary fervor has inspired artists of all stripes, from reggae

disciples to punk-rock acolytes like The Clash.

Born Winston Hubert McIntosh in the rural parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica, in 1944, he moved to the

notorious slum of Trenchtown at age 16. His mother strongly influenced him, and her sensibility would

become apparent in both his lyrics and views; she was particularly concerned that he have a Christian up-

bringing. He attended the local church daily, and his experience there – singing in the choir and learning

to play the organ – formed a sort of musical apprenticeship that prepared him for his subsequent career.

It was in the early 60’s when Peter met Robert Nesta Marley (Bob Marley) and Neville O’Riley Livingston

(Bunny Wailer). The three would go on to form the band, ‘The Wailers’, in 1962. The Wailers band had

tremendous success as a trio but Peter Tosh would go on to find himself as a extraordinary solo artist and

an activist who openly called for the legalization of Marijuana.

Peter Tosh released his solo debut album, ‘Legalize it’, in 1976 through CBS Record company. The next

year, he released ‘Equal Rights’. The two albums have become a testament to Tosh’s ability as a songwriter

and a musician. Peter was a master at wordplay. He often referred to himself as his musical alter ego, the

‘Stepping Razor’, taken from his lyrics: “Don’t you watch my size, I’m dangerous.”

On September 11, 1987, just after Tosh had returned to his home in Jamaica, a three-man gang came to

his house on motorcycles and demanded money. Tosh replied that he did not have any with him but the

gang did not believe him. They stayed at his residence for several hours and tortured him in an attempt to

extort money from Tosh. Over the hours, as various Tosh’s associates arrived to visit him, they were also

taken hostage by the gunmen. The gunmen became more and more frustrated, especially the chief thug,

Dennis ‘Leppo’ Lobban, a man whom Tosh had previously befriended and tried to help find work after a

long jail sentence. Tosh said he did not have any money in the house, after which Lobban and the fellow

gunmen began opening fire in a reckless manner. Tosh was shot twice in the head and killed. Herbalist

Wilton ‘Doc’ Brown and disc jockey Jeff ‘Free I’ Dixon also died as a result of wounds sustained during the

robbery. Several others in the house were wounded, including Tosh’s common-law wife, Andrea Marlene

Brown, Free I’s wife, Yvonne (‘Joy’), Tosh’s drummer Carlton ‘Santa’ Davis and musician Michael Robinson.

According to Police Commissioner Herman Ricketts, Dennis ‘Leppo’ Lobban surrendered and two other

men were interrogated but not publicly named. Lobban went on to plead innocent during his trial, telling

the court he had been drinking with friends. The trial was held in a closed court due to the involvement of

illegal firearms. Lobban was ultimately found guilty by a jury of eight women and four men and sentenced

to death by hanging. His sentence was commuted in 1995 and Lobban remains in jail. Another suspect

was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The other two gunmen were never identified by name. It is

said that they were killed in a daylight gun battle in the street.

Though his life was snuffed out by violence, his star continued to shine ever brighter in the ensuing years.

As an artist and an activist, Peter Tosh continues to inspire creators and idealists around the world. He was

and is a true leader whose music and message inspires people on every continent throughout the world.

The Ocean Cleanup launched their first cleanup

system on September 8, 2018, from San Francisco,

out into the Pacific, to commence the cleanup

of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the world’s

largest plastic accumulation zones situated half-

way between Hawaii and California. The Patch

contains 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic and covers

an area twice the size of Texas.

The cleanup system, System 001, is a 600-meter

long float, with a 3-meter skirt. Propelled by wind

and waves, the system skims the surface of the

ocean, collecting plastic and debris in front of it.

The first collection of debris is scheduled to

return to land within 6 months where the Ocean

Cleanup will then recycle the material. To learn

Infiltrating your senses with his unique blend of Reggae, Dancehall and signature ‘raspy’ voice, Agent Sasco,

a master Jamaican artiste, formerly known as Assassin for his quick-wit lyrics and sharpshooter delivery, is set

to release his highly anticipated fourth studio album ‘Hope River’ through Diamond Studios in Summer 2018.

Growing up in Kintyre, St. Andrew, (Jamaica) with his mother, Jeffrey Campbell had a surprisingly humble

yet grounded start in life. It wasn’t until 2000 when International Reggae Artist Spragga Benz recorded a

song he penned that Sasco received his first big break. This was the beginning of a long list of collaborations

for Sasco that branched into three studio albums and over 350 singles.

Collaborating with Grammy Award-winning artists Kanye West (‘I’m In It’, Yeezus, 2013) and Kendrick

Lamar, (‘The Blacker The Berry’ 2015), as well as Dancehall and Reggae legends like Shaggy, Bounty Killer,

Buju Banton, Josie Wales, Richie Stephens, Freddie McGregor, Marcia Griffiths, and Beres Hammond, to

name a few, Sasco is always evolving to keep his sound fresh. Sasco has also left his unique mark on the

world of hip-hop, lending his talents to Jerry Wonda, Raekwon, and Melanie Fiona for ‘Soundboy Kill It’,

Kardinal Offishall for ‘Pretty Paper’, and Lil Jon for ‘Turn Down for What Remix’. Adding to his ever-diversi-

fying portfolio, Sasco was featured on ‘Mutant Brain’, an original song created for the launch of the KENZO

world ad campaign by French luxury brand Kenzo parafums in 2016. The video for this song was directed

by Academy Award Winner Spike Jonze. Gaining momentum in 2017, Sasco worked on the soundtrack for

Paramount Studio’s hit, Baywatch.

There is an endearing mystique that surrounds

Agent Sasco (formerly known as Assassin). He

effortlessly steals the spotlight in all of his musical

endeavours. Sasco’s resumé is already decorated

with achievements.

In his island country of Jamaica, he is one of the

most recognizable musicians who has planted a

cultural stake in dancehall music. His songs with

Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Raekwon the Chef

and Royce Da 5’ 9” have also earned Sasco the

status of being in-demand by hip hop’s elite. In

2016, he was featured on “Mutant Brain,” an

original song created for the launch of KENZO

World, the song’s accompanying video was direct-

ed by Academy Award winner Spike Jonze. Sasco

is modest about the accolades that have earned

him worldwide genre recognition amongst his

peers and the reggae/dancehall community; these

are highlights in his career that he views simply as

footnotes in his story.

While Sasco is aware that he is a benefactor of

his talent, he also gives credit to a greater force

at work making it all possible. On his fourth studio

by looking through the lens of his true identity,

Kintyre, a neighborhood within the parish of St.

Andrew, Jamaica. Campbell was instilled with

core values of gratitude and spirituality. “This

album is a representation of where I am musically,

mentally, and spiritually,” says Sasco. The journey

continues.

Hope River was recorded at Diamond Studios,

Agent Sasco’s home studio and label. The album

was co-produced by DizTroy (Dale “Dizzle” Virgo

Me na fallin is a powerful song that talks about the energy and the will of a young woman to face life

with self-awareness and confidence. The song will inspire everyone—especially women—to go their way

with perseverance, to aim high and to show commitment and passion for reaching their goals. The tune

promotes having a positive attitude and believing in yourself and in your own strength.

‘Me na fallin’ is a collaboration between the Surinamese-Dutch Reggae-singer Samora and the Swiss

Reggae-Combo Open Season. The Lyrics were written by Samora, the Riddim and production was done

by Open Season, including a dancehall feature by singer Santosh. The result of this collaboration is a

versatile song full of energy and positive vibes, that is rooted in different styles such as Reggae, Dancehall

and Pop.

This collaboration between Samora and Open Season took place within the project “Female Reggae Voices”,

in which Open Season presented four female Reggae artists to the festival audience in Switzerland in

Summer 2018 thereby showing their commitment to promoting women in the music industry.

The Record Release Party took place back on 6.9.2018 during the last of six ‘Female Reggae Voices’—Shows

between July and September at Chessu/Coupole in Biel-Bienne, Switzerland.

Singer and songwriter since 1997 with Positive Radical Sound (PRS), Khalifa believes music can be more

than making tunes and performing. Releasing four albums with PRS, two with Sly & Robbie as well as

numerous songs featuring Mad Professor, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Sly & Robbie, Taxi Gang, Sugar Minott, Nambo

Robinson, Steven Marley Wright and Paul Groucho Smykle, Khalifa is also involved in teaching music in

detention centers in France, in refugee camps in Palestine or in youth clubs in Oran, Algeria.

“Music should help educate while exploring the depths of the Soul”. This is what Khalifa has learned to do.

Khalifa gets his energy from the sources of reggae music to take us beyond frontiers as shown in his last

single ‘There’s a Light’ which music video was shot in Camden, London, or in his cover of French classic

‘Chanson pour l’auvergnat’ by George Brassens, North African style! For nearly 17 years Khalifa keeps

producing music and writing songs, inspired by his travels and by everyday life, and backed by a powerful

rhythm. A must-see performance!

For his album, ‘Hard Times for Dreamers’, Khalifa rounded up an international crew, bringing in Mad

Professor, Winston Mac Anuff, Nambo Robinson, Sly and Robbie et Steven Marley Wright (I Jah Man)

to put together 12 powerful, tight songs. Each tune has its subtlety; the punchy brass section gives way

to the strings, and a 50s guitar trill weaves in and out of a raw afro-beat. Robbie Shakespeare’s bassline

smoothly glides us from Lagos to the Kingston suburbs, while Khalif’s masterful voice takes the lead.

Hard times for dreamers was the result of trips to Oran, Ramallah, Kingston, Paris and London, and

exchanges with Sly & Robbie, Mad Professor, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Taxi Gang, Sugar Minott, Nambo Robinson,

Steven Marley Wright and Paul Groucho Smykle.

During a recent interview on a national TV program (Jamaica), Onstage, Reggae / Dancehall artist Jahmiel

shared with host/creator Winford Williams exclusive information about his debut album.

Set to release first quarter of 2019, Jahmiel seemed very pleased with the body of work already laid out

for his debut album and said there is just a few final touches to be made. When asked what he can share

about the album Jahmiel disclosed the album title ‘Greatman’.

In 2016 the moniker ‘Greatman’ became a name, which to the 25 year old artist, who to many may see

as an “overnight success”, has always seen himself as ‘Great’ despite the struggles in music. In 2016 he

released a single titled ‘Greatman’ and the name remained one that many saw fit as well, especially for an

artist of his drive, struggles and delivery on and off stage.

The road to ‘overnight success’ is always longer than it seems. It’s a journey that’s seldom completed with-

out pitfalls and stumbling blocks along the way, but through perseverance and determination, the fittest

of the fittest fulfill their mission. JAHMIEL knows that mission and is prepared to give you an insight to

that journey.

Currently promoting his single ‘Still Not Over You’, produced by DJ Frass, Jahmiel recently released the

visuals, which is stirring up a lot of conversation around it. Showing an intimate side of him, which tends to

be a hit with the ladies, Jahmiel also touches on some of the stresses and battles that may come between two

persons in a relationship seeking “the right love”. The single which Jahmiel also revealed is the first single off

his debut album, is currently garnering international airplay as well and features in mainstream publications.

Named the Queen of South East Asian hip-hop & Reggae by Vice / Noisey, MAS1A is an artist that inspires

fans wherever she grabs a mic. Her hit, ‘Warrior Tongue’, was sampled by iconic American DJ/Producer

Bass Nectar for the title track of Fast and Furious 8. This is not the first major success for this Singaporean

Warrior, having ‘savagely defeated’ her opponent at the Chang Urban Pulse Rap Battle in 3 different

languages of English, Chinese, and French.

MAS1A’s career as a hip-hop artist is extensive: She became the first female to be nominated for an MTV

Canada award, has worked with the likes of Dr Dre, Pharrell Williams, The Game, RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) and

John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and honored by VIMA SE Asian Music Awards for Best Female

Artist. She brings Ragga flavor into her music influenced by time spent in Jamaica working at Bob Marley’s

Tuff Gong Studios and collaborating with Reggae legends such as Sizzle, Lady Saw and Dubtonic Kru.

MAS1A is also the founder and creative director of Singapura Dub Club, the premier island culture events

company in Singapore and a hub bringing Asian Ragga flavors to the rest of the world. She is currently

working on her 4th studio album, executive produced by Major Lazer’s engineer, Richie Beretta, which is

slated for a Fall 2018 release!

Get on your dancing shoes, as we share with you a Hiphop-Dancehall story to the soundtrack of infectious

claps and booming bass. This percussive fun fest is produced by Japan’s wildest bass music army XXXSSS

Tokyo, and directed by Singapore’s freshest young visionary OhNanaz. If you’re out there hustlin, grindin’

and chasin’ your dreams, turn it up cause this is your song! Check your watch and GIT IT! Time Wastin’!
