Use a light sizing/starch on the squares before cutting triangles to help control stretching along the bias edges. Follow arrows for pressing directions. 1A = (Fabric 1) A piece
Make the Cut-away Corner Blocks *this block is a variation on a '"Snowball Block"
1. Mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of the 3B squares. Place RST over a 1A square. Sew on the marked line. Trim 1/4" away from the marked line. Press away the Fabric 1 square. Follow the placement guide below, sew the rest of the B squares to the A squares.

Make the Partial Seam Square Blocks *this block is often called a "Bright Hope Block"
2. Sew a 4D Strip to the side of a 5C Square, stopping approximately 1" before the end. Working clockwise, sew a 3D strip to the top of the unit. Press away from center with each rounD. Sew a 4D strip to the next side. Press. Sew the final 3D strip to the bottom of the unit. Press. Complete the first seam sewing the 4D strip to the block. Make 6.

Make the Setting Units
3. Sew the following combinations of pieces into setting units. Press away fromt he 6E triangles after each addition. Trim each of the setting units as shown.
4. Lay the blocks out rotated as shown. Check and double check the block placement before sewing the rows! The pink and green rings should weave under/over each other. Sew 3F and 4F and 3-I and 4-I to the end of the rows as indicated. Sew the blocks and units into rows. Press away from the A squares. Sew row to row. Press to one side.

5. Refer to the cutting guide for tips on cutting these border pieces. Sew the short Fabric 8 Border 2 strips into sets as shown. Press open.
6. Sew the 6J & 6K strips to the quilt top. Press toward J & K. Sew the 6L triangles to the corners of the quilt. Press toward L. Trim any excess around the outer edges of the quilt.
7. Measure the length of the quilt through the middle:___________Trim a Fabric 7 Border 1 strip to that the measurement. Sew to the sides of the quilt. Press.
8. Measure the width of the quilt through the middle:___________Trim a Fabric 7 Border 1 strip to that the measurement. Sew to the sides of the quilt. Press.

9. Measure the length of the quilt through the middle:___________Trim the short Fabric 8 Border 2 strips from step 5 to th measurement. Sew to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press.
10. Measure the length of the quilt through the middle:___________ Trim the long Fabric 8 Border 2 strips to this measurement. Sew to the long sides of the quilt Press.
*Follow the picture to the right for design placement. The lilac motifs will flow upright creating a continuous appearance.
11. Mark the wave shapes onto the outer edge of the final border. DO NOT TRIM!
12. Layer the backing, batting and pieced top together. Baste layers.
13. Quilt as desired.
14. Sew the bias binding along the way lines to the fron of the quilt using a 1/4" seam allowance.
15. Trim all layers leaving a consisten 1/4" seam allowance.
16. Sew down the fold of the binding to the back of the quilt for a smooth finish.
