Sub- Judge Mobile Magistrate RajniSharma, President Bar AssociationUdhampur Surinder Khajuria, Retainerlawyers and prominent citizens were presenton the occasion. Speaking on the occasion,Parihar assured that the free legal aid clinicwould provide all kind of legal support to theOld Age Home.

He stressed that the Government haslaunched a number of social welfare schemes forthe old and the clinic would help in generatingawareness about these schemes so that thedeserving could avail full benefitof these schemes.

He said that similar FreeLegal aid clinic would also beopened at Latti soon so that the

people of far-flung areas could also be madeaware of various schemes being run byGovernment for the welfare of poor and needy.

STATE TIMES NEWS UDHAMPUR: Taking toughstand against the encroach-ments in the city, DistrictDevelopment Commissioner,Niraj Kumar on Tuesday con-stituted a team of officers forcarrying out anti-encroachmentdrive in the city.

The decision was taken duringthe meeting of District RoadSafety Committee (DRSC)held here today.

The DDC held detailed dis-cussions on various issues likeTraffic management and decon-gestion in the city, Shifting ofRehris and street hawkers toalternate locations, stepsrequired for reducing number ofaccidents, holding of awarenesscamps for sensitizing the driversespecially the young drivers etc.

In order to decongest andmanage the traffic at crucialjunctions, it was decided that allthe Rehris would be shifted toidentified places besides makingtraffic diversion at some placesto ease out traffic pressure inthe city. 'An anti-encroachmentdrive would be launched by thedistrict administration in thisregard', told the DDC andcalled upon the concerned offi-cers to maintain strict vigil tocheck encroachments.

Regarding the issue of over-loading, it was decided thatadditional buses would bedeployed in the areas whereoverloading is a problem.Besides this, strict action wouldalso be taken against the driverswho would be found indulged inthe practice of overloading, said

the DDC. He also sought coop-eration from Transport union inreducing the number of acci-dents in the town and askedthem to inform the concernedofficers, if any driver was founddrunken so that action againstthe defaulter can be taken.

It was also given out in themeeting that sign -boardsdepicting the speed limit wouldbe installed at various roads tocheck overspeeding, added theDDC. Further, the DDCstressed on the need for impart-ing road safety education to thestudents of schools and collegesand directed the concernedPrincipals to ensure that thestudents must wear helmetsand do not use mobile phoneswhile driving. ARTOUdhampur was asked to organ-ize awareness camps for sensi-tizing the common massesabout the road signals/symbols.The DDC further directed theEx-En R&B to take requisitesteps for better upkeep of roadsto prevent accidents.
