Get Your Senior Sounds via E-mail!

Receive your Senior Sounds in a timely manner AND

help us save cost by signing up for our NEW email sub-

scription option. Call us or stop by the front desk to let

us know you are interested in making the switch! Sign-

ing up means you will no longer receive a hard copy of

the Sounds in the mail BUT you can always print it out

at home! Thank you for helping us be more green!

June!

Before I start, let me first make amends to all of our mothers for my

failure to wish you all a Happy Mothers Day! Of all things to for-

get...I trust you had a wonderful day!

Moving forward into June, I send best wishes for a restful and

Happy Father's Day to all our dads out there.

How is it June already? Personally, I'm not ready to share my movie

going experience with all the kids for the summer. However, I hear

the excitement in the talk in the hallway and at meetings over

Graduation events coming for grand and great-grandkids, from high

school to college with various degrees being earned. I'm also hear-

ing reflections of when we went to school...so many years ago. With

that in mind, let me remind you of our newest event coming

up...Senior Prom Night June 5 in the Chateau Room.

Fortunately, June is a little less busy than last month...allowing us to

catch our breath and prepare for the 4th of July Parade...Holly is

looking for participants. If you've never been in a parade, this is the

one to be in! It's great fun whether you walk or ride...you get to see

the folks that live in PH from an entirely different perspective. And if

you walk...you walk in the middle of the street...on purpose! So be

sure to let Holly know you're coming, ASAP.

Still looking for something to do? Try the new, free, Book Club June

1st in the Game Room or check out "Finding Meaning in Our Retire-

ment Years"...a 4 week class starting June 5 in the Game

Room...for a small fee.

Here's to a great month!

Dear Center Members,

We are just finishing up with Laugh, Love and Learn,

and I have to say it seems like it was a successful event, at

least that is what the evaluation forms have said. Everyone

liked the speakers, the food was great, and the vendor fair was

informative and fun. We also raised lots of money! Thank

you so much for coming out and supporting the event and the

care management program.

I would like to take the opportunity this month to talk

a little bit more specifically about in-home care. When you

hire someone to provide personal care, like bathing or dress-

ing, you have a couple of different options. When you choose

a home health care agency the first thing most people look at

is the price. Some agencies charge a rate of $16.00/ hr, while

others charge $25.00/hr. The difference in the service is this,

the lower price one is usually a referral agency, which means

that person now becomes your employee. You are responsible

for the liability. The agency that charges more considers that

person to be their employee and they take care of things like

workman’s compensation insurance, etc. Many times the agen-

cies who charge the lower rates have a minimum number of

hours. (i.e. $16.00/hr, for a 4hr/minimum). If you just need

someone for an hour it may still cost you $25.00/hour, no mat-

ter what agency you use. Another option for in-home care is

only available to persons eligible for MediCal. This program is

called In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). What they pro-

vide is a certain number of hours per/month of a personal as-

sistance at no charge to the senior, it is covered by the County.

This is a great service, but it doesn’t happen overnight. The

length of the process to get approved is typically 6 months.

Anytime you hire a caregiver, please be specific what you

want done. If bathing and grooming are part of the deal, after

your bath, you have to state this. Don’t assume the caregiver

will see what needs to be done and do it.

Have a great month everyone!

Fondly,

Dana

VOLUNTEER CORNER

Immediate Needs:

Special Event Photographer: someone to help document our special events—guests and décor! Needs to be familiar with a digital camera and have an eye for capturing fun mo-ments.

Crafty People: we are looking for crafty members who are willing to make and donate fun and unique items to sell at our special boutique events held three times a year (4th of July—summer items, Holiday Boutique—any and all items, Easter Boutique—spring items). Crafts can range from handmade jewelry to cute clothing and anything in between! Items can be made at home on your own schedule or at the Senior Center during our Boutique Activity hours.

Immediate need for help with the monthly Pancake Break-fasts

If you are interested, please contact our Volunteer Chair, Anne Haydock at [email protected]

This year's 39th Annual Pleasant Hill 4th of July Celebration needs your help! We are already hard at work raising funds and planning another fun-filled family event, but it takes many volunteers to make this annual American celebration a success. We aren’t looking for an all-day commitment from you. Just a few hours of your time on the 4th can make all the difference. The day’s exciting events are broken-up into 4 segments that you, your friends, church, organiza-tion, or business can choose from to help out with and be part of our city’s Independence Day fun: 1. The 5K Firecracker Run. 2. The Parade through Downtown. 3. The Party in the Park (Bands, Food, Rides, & Kids Games). 4. The Fireworks Show at College Park. If you are interested, just choose one or multiple events you’d like to help out with, let us know, and we’ll let you know when and where you need to show up on the 4th of July. It’s that’s simple! The Pa-rade through Downtown needs the most volunteers, but we would love your involvement in any of the events! Just contact the Presi-dent of the Pleasant Hill 4th of July Commission, Chris Tipton,

at: [email protected]. You can also check out the website

at www.phjuly4.com for more information about the days events.

We’d love your involvement in this annual Pleasant Hill tradition and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

The 4th of July Celebration needs YOUR help!

Thank you to our generous sponsors for

making this year’s event the best!
