Aging in Our Community (Information Seminar) Tues, Sept 19 (save date; tickets required)

Our Jacksonville Senior Center Council is excited to sponsor AGING IN OUR COMMUNITY, a seminar and panel discussion about aging in this community. Aging in place is defined as “the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regard-less of age, income, or ability level.” Most adults would prefer to age in place—that is, remain in their home of choice as long as possible. A committee of JSC members has come together to seek out a variety of professionals with different backgrounds who have a passion for seniors and knowledge to share with us. We plan to explore topics including housing choices, community re-sources and technologies aimed at making our lives easier and helping us make informed choic-es. We plan to present this seminar in September 2017 at the Jacksonville Senior Center. We’ll keep you posted as we pull this event together.

When you think of aging, what does it look like? The media often por-trays it as a negative experience, but we know better! Join the Balti-more County Dept of Aging as we

challenge the stereotypes of getting older and celebrate our later years. In 2017, we will encour-age individuals of all ages to discuss the perceived limitations placed on older adults and their ability to live to their fullest potential. We will highlight individuals in our community who are making a difference as they age and offer resources to grow older successfully! #ReimagineAging2017.

Baltimore County Vision—Living Longer. Living Well (in place of TEAM, Together Everyone in Aging Matters)

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Forum

The BCRest Coalition invites you to attend the annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) forum on June 15, 2017 to learn how to identify financial exploitation and strategies to protect your finances. Medicare Part D Volunteer Counselors Needed

Each fall, SHIP is in need of new volunteers to assist Medicare beneficiaries in person and by phone to review their Medicare Part D Prescription coverage for the next calendar year. Because the Medicare Part D plans are permitted to change their formularies, premiums, tier structures, and pricing with pharmacies on an annual basis, it is essential for all Part D beneficiaries to do a yearly check-up regarding their Part D plans. The Part D Open Enrollment is held from October 15 through December 7. If you would like to explore becoming a Part D volunteer, contact Sherry Kolbe, SHIP Program Manager, at 410-887-2059 or email [email protected].

#ReimagineAging2017 BCDA has launched a social media campaign to bring awareness to the many ways in which

older adults can embrace aging and continue to live healthy and independent lives. Instead of contributing to ageist stereotypes, BCDA will be highlighting individuals in the community who are making a difference and living life to their fullest potential. Read their stories and share your own! Follow us on Instagram @BaltCoAging, like us on Facebook @BaltimoreCountyAging and read inspirational stories at www.baltimorecountymd.gov/reimagineaging. Add #reimagineaging2017 to your social media posts. Have a discussion with people of all ages about ageism (prejudice or discrimination on the basis of a person’s age). Let’s reimagine aging as a positive and wonderful achievement.
