So, Im finally a senior. Ive gone through three and half years here, 2 and a half of it in the graphic design department. Ive gone through 21 design classes, and aprojects. So have no fear! Im pretty sure Ive learned a few things in all of this time. And Im glad Ive learned these things, but what are they? And what the hell dowhat interests and empowers me? A lot of things.

USER EXPERIENCE > NELSON-ATKINS WAY FINDING SYSTEM


I love clothing & fashion. I love motion graphics. So why not create motion graphics for a hypothetical clothing store? MARS was a really awesome project for me. Iaround with aspects of my personal clothing and design styles, and how I would brand a company that Im passionate about, a mens only vintage, resale, and tailoThis was the first time I really got to work in-depth with after efects and I LOVED it. I played with the idea of an animation spanning across multiple screens and hbe manipulated and played with.

TYPE FOUR > EXPERIMENTAL TYPE


Because I loved motion graphics so much, I played with them more in experimental type. This time though, to try and engage the viewer more. My studies ended ugrabbing the viewers attention with distinct moments and then being able to keep the viewer with subtler moments, having to figure out what they were seeing. Tquench my thirst for both motion work and in a way environmental design. These words would idealy have been put in busy location to slow people down.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE > USA TODAY WEBSITE REDESIGN


This project was the first real time I got to design for the web, and I unsurprisingly love it! Taking a news website, restructuring it, and making it more user-friendlexperimented with a left/right scrolling method as opposed to the normal up/down method. I let color really show where you were at within the website. I realized that I love color coding. Its one of the fastest ways to bring clarity to a complex system of information like news.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE > CHECKPOINT! IPHONE APP


Creating this iphone app reassured me that interactive design really is something that Im passionate about. Its an app for female coders uses scheduled remindethem away from their computers, and records the work done throughout the days and weeks. It would start to show the user patterns of what they do and do not they can be more physically and mentally fit.

DESIGN SYSTEMS > KCTV REBRAND


So i know that interactive design is something Im really passionate about. But what topics outside of design do I care about? Rebranding KCTV was very eye-openthat sense. It ventured into the realm of news, which has become a strong interest of mine within the past few months. This project helped me grow as a designer clearly understand the problem at hand, and how to go about successfully answering it. The problem was about biased news reporting and how graphic design canHow can i visually show a company who is all about the facts and spreading the true information, and not the sensationalism to get the viewers? I created a very stawhite tyopgraphic system that really focused on the content being produced, not the system itself.

MULTIMEDIA EXPERIENCE > POLITITEENS


This project for MX, Polititeens, was really the culmination of my interests coming together. Interactive design meeting news, specifically politics, to help facilitate environment for AP highschool students interested and eager in current events and politics. This spanned across a website, an iPhone app, and an iPad app. It helpthe vast amounts of information and structured it in way that was easily accessible and digestible. It really focused on giving information on all topics, and help theschoolers form their own ideas and opinions on the subjects at hand.

Websites like newsmap.jp are doing an awesome job of questioning how news is taken in, and whats most important. The more clicks a link gets, the bigger its sqhierarchy of this website is completely user-inputed. No preconceived notions about what should be more or less relevant and important to the readers.

Even platforms like twitter are doing an awesome job changing the landscape of news. Letting citizens post about events in their area that afect people. Mona Eltatwitter both as a blow-by-blow account of immedate goings-on in egypt, but also to help save her life and get her out of prison. But how can these platforms be unews reporting specifically?
