Senior Recitals
May 11, 2020
Paul Gulder II (cello) has been home educated for grades K-12. He is the fifth of six brothers, all of
who have been involved in Soo Youth Orchestras. In addition to youth orchestra, Paul and his
brothers have played chamber music together and visited various assisted living facilities in the area to
share their love of great music. Paul started on his first instrument, the violin, when he was four years
old. He had played in an orchestra comprised of his and another home educating family until he
joined the SYO when he was ten. Within the past three years, Paul decided to switch over to cello,
preferring its tones to that of the violin. Paul enjoys reading, photo editing and models. He also
enjoys repairing electronics. After graduating, Paul plans to enter the work force and continue his involvement in
musical opportunities whenever possible.
Emily Kars (soprano, violin) will be pursuing a degree in Music Education with a minor in
Theatre next fall at Huntington University in Huntington, IN. Emily began formal piano
lessons at age four at the Algoma Conservatory of Music in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Over the years she has also been involved in many church related music activities,
including the worship team. She is currently studying voice and violin at the Soo Theatre
and continues to enjoy piano in her free time. She has been a guest accompanying pianist
with the Soo Youth Orchestra and now participates as a violinist. Emily has enjoyed the roles of Andrina in The Little
Mermaid, Jr., Nala in The Lion King, Jr., Dew Fairy in Hansel & Gretel, Isir in Aladdin, Jr., chorus in
Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Soo Theatre. She is excited to appear
as Anna in the upcoming production of Frozen, Jr.! Emily has also been cast in the role of Margaret in her university’s
fall production of the play, Silent Sky!
Anna Kowalski (soprano) is a dancer, actor, singer, and writer. She has been
participating in ballet and other dance classes since she was three years old and has
been a student of voice through the Soo Theatre’s educational program for the past
three years.
Anna has played leading roles in a wide variety of musicals, plays, and operas at the Soo
Theatre. Highlights include Ariel in the The Little Mermaid, Jr., Rafiki in The Lion
King Jr., Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and more. She is
currently cast as Olaf in the upcoming 2020 production of Frozen Jr. Anna loves art in many forms and enjoys all
types of creativity and loves to relate to people through performing and writing stories. In the future, she hopes to
always touch people with her creative spirit.
Alyssa Morley (soprano, flute) will be graduating from Sault Area High School in the top 5 of her
class. She has been an active member of STARS every year since the doors first opened in
2005. She started with dance classes at the age of four and moved into private lessons in voice, piano,
and flute. She has attended numerous summer camps and workshops over the past 15 years,
including many stage productions since she was five years old. Her more recent roles are in The
Magic Flute where she played the magic flute on stage, the Mother in Hansel and Gretel, Ariel in
The Little Mermaid, Jr., Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmations, and Fiona in Shrek, Jr. Alyssa continues
to play the piano and competes with high honors at the state level in flute. She is active with her
church to help support the music program, both with her vocal and instrumental talents. She will be attending Lake
Superior State University in the fall to pursue a degree in Elementary Education and Psychology.
Raina Vert (cello) will graduate from Brimley Area Public Schools. She has three brothers, Connor, Jared, & Jordan,
