CASE MANAGER’S CORNERAnnouncement:November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month! It is more important than ever to get informed on the prevention and treatment of dementia — and promote greater understanding of the disease and its symptoms so that it can be detected early. In addition to raising awareness and supporting those with the disease, Alzheimer’s Awareness Month also reminds us of the importance of caregivers, who are there to help their loved ones every step of the way. Check out our Age-Friendly area during the month of November for resources related to Alzheimer’s and caregiver support. The Alzheimer’s Association can provide you with further information by visiting their web page or calling their 24/7 helpline: https://www.alz.org/help-support/resources | HELPLINE – 800-272-3900

Become a Dementia Friend today to learn how to recognize the signs of dementia, simple actions you can take to assist those who are affected by dementia, and to personally contribute to making your community dementia friendly! For more information about joining the Dementia Friends movement, stop by the Case Manager’s office or visit the link below: http://dementiafriendsusa.org/become-friend

Medicare Open Enrollment: 2019 Health Care PlansMid October – Early December Now it’s easier to learn about your Medicare supplemental health care options! Instead of attending many different presentations to learn about the different plans available, the Senior Center is working with HICAP to provide this information through one-on-one appointments. HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program) is a program provided by trained volunteers through Sourcewise. To make your appointment, call the Senior Center’s Front Desk at (408) 586-3400.
