The University expects to continue surpassing existing benchmarks inthe coming years and to establish new ones. Seton Hall has set a goalof being ranked among the top 5 Catholic universities and top 75national universities in the country by 2025. As part of its 2010strategic plan – From Strength to Strength – Seton Hall launched aCenters of Excellence initiative. Each year the program allocatesadditional resources to key strategic areas of the University. In 2015,Seton Hall announced plans to create the only private medical schoolin New Jersey in partnership with Hackensack University HealthNetwork as well as launching a new College of Communication andthe Arts.

Since 2010, the University has invested more than $134 million incampus improvements including building new state-of-the-artfacilities and renovating existing ones. Investments include a new

three-story classroom building, a 19,000-square-foot fitness center addition to the Richie Regan Recreationand Athletic Center, expanded and updated residence halls, and a major addition to the parking deck. Plansare currently underway to create a new Admissions/Welcome Center at the entrance to the main campusand to undertake phase one of the expansion and renovation of the University Center.

Stewardship is critically important to Seton Hall as they prepare for a future campaign within UniversityAdvancement. The incoming Senior Director of Stewardship and Donor Engagement will be an experiencedstewardship and donor relations professional who can build and manage an institution-wide stewardshipinitiative for individual donors. A self-starter, the Senior Director will be a strong communicator internallyand externally and work closely with University Advancement to leverage the resources and systems in orderto maximize the stewardship potential with donors.

Position Overview –Senior Director of Stewardship and Donor Engagement

Reporting to Assistant Vice President for Advancement Services Dan Nugent, the Senior Director ofStewardship and Donor Engagement is responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, andmaintaining an institution-wide, comprehensive donor engagement program that communicates andcelebrates the impact of philanthropy at Seton Hall University at all levels. This senior member of theAdvancement team will oversee a portfolio of stewardship prospects and work in partnership withcolleagues to develop and strengthen relationships with donors and prospects.

In addition the Director will: Develop specific plans to steward Seton Hall’s most generous benefactors. Facilitate contact between donors and beneficiaries of their support, including scholarship recipients

and faculty receiving endowed funds. Create innovative and dynamic ways to demonstrate the impact of giving to specific audiences

through the use of personalized, targeted, multi-channel campaigns. Coordinate stewardship reporting to individual, foundation and corporate donors including

oversight of annual reporting on endowed funds. Create and implement effective events and programs designed to engage, cultivate and steward

prospects and donors. Oversee the acknowledgement process to ensure that all donors are thanked in a personal, timely

and appropriate manner. Develop new means by which to acknowledge gifts at various levels, andthroughout the life cycle of donors.

Develop and manage all recognition programs including giving societies and naming opportunities. Coordinate with the Finance office, Enrollment Management, and associated departments to ensure

proper execution of all gift agreements.

Responsibilities:

50% - Design, implement, evaluate, and maintain an institution-wide, comprehensive donorengagement program that communicates and celebrates the impact of philanthropy at Seton HallUniversity at all levels.

20% - Evaluate and implement meaningful giving societies that further connect alumni, parents, andfriends to Seton Hall University.

20% - Develop personalized stewardship plans for active prospects with Advancement colleagues.

10% - Oversee and manage all related stewardship and reporting for named endowments,scholarships and other funds made possible by high level support. Coordinate with the Financeoffice, Enrollment Management, and associated departments to ensure execution of all giftagreements. Work closely with Development staff to create and review all new gift agreements toensure strict adherence to University policy.

In addition, the Senior Director will supervise the Director of Donor Relations and the Assistant Director,Engagement events.

Requirements:

Candidates must have verbal and written communication skills of the highest caliber in order to buildpositive relationships with donors, senior administrators, and other colleagues. Due to the sensitive natureof the work involved, candidates must understand the importance of tact and discretion. Candidates mustalso be comfortable in promoting the Catholic mission of Seton Hall University in a positive manner.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to review events, projects, systems and procedures to determinevalue and viability. The ability to manage several such projects simultaneously is of paramount importance.

This position requires sound technological skills including the ability to analyze and recommend newsoftware products to aid the University in building closer relationships with prospects and donors. Inaddition, a working knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge is preferable.

Attendance is required at various University events, many of which occur in the evening and on weekends.Occasional travel is required.

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

5-8 years of successful related relationship management experience is required. Experience working withdonors at all levels, ideally in a nonprofit or higher education setting, is preferred.

History:

From its founding in 1856 as Seton Hall College to the present day,Seton Hall has been dedicated to supporting the vision that itsfounder, Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley, described as providing "ahome for the mind, the heart, and the spirit." Its Catholic roots havemade the University a home that is open to people of all faiths,creeds and colors.

During the 19th century, in spite of setbacks, lean times and the CivilWar, the College continued to expand. By 1937, Seton Hallestablished a University College. This marked the first matriculation ofwomen at Seton Hall. Seton Hall became fully coeducational in 1968.

The College was organized into a university in 1950 following anunprecedented growth in enrollment. At that time, the College ofArts and Sciences, the Stillman School of Business, the School ofNursing, and College of Education and Human Services comprised

the University. The School of Law opened its doors in 1951, with Miriam Rooney as the first woman dean ofa law school in the United States.

In April 1987, Seton Hall’s Board of Trustees approved the formation of the School of Graduate MedicalEducation (now known as the School of Health and Medical Sciences). The School’s mission is to preparehealthcare professionals to assume leadership roles in the healthcare arena.

The School of Diplomacy and International Relations was founded in 1997 in an alliance with the UnitedNations Association of the United States of America. In 2015, the University created the College ofCommunication and the Arts to leverage its advantageous proximity to New York City and announced plansto form a new School of Medicine in partnership with Hackensack University Health Network. Current planscall for the School of Health and Medical Sciences, College of Nursing and the planned School of Medicineto be co-located on a separate campus to reflect the future of integrated healthcare delivery.

Seton Hall strives to meet the spiritual needs of all of its students, regardless of faith. Although the majorityof its students are Catholic, there also are significant groups of Jewish, Muslim, Protestant and Buddhiststudents, among others. University Leadership

A. Gabriel EstebanPresident

A. Gabriel Esteban was appointed 20th president of Seton Hall University inJanuary 2011, after serving as interim president for six months. He has chargedthe University's more than 900 faculty, 1,800 employees and nearly 10,000undergraduate and graduate students to aspire to excellence in scholarship andservice and is deeply committed to the institution's 159-year Catholic mission.

Esteban spearheaded the University's current strategic planning and campus master plan initiatives,collaborated with faculty and academic leaders on enhancing and adding undergraduate and graduateprograms, establishing academic priorities and strengthening the centrality of academics at Seton Hall. Hehas also led the strategic changes in the enrollment management and financial aid strategies that haveenhanced the University's reputation through the current economic environment.

Esteban has increased student selectivity and profile. Since implementing the enrollment management planin fall 2009, the SAT scores of the incoming freshmen have increased by close to 100 points. In addition thepercentage of freshmen ranked in the top ten percent of their class has increased from 24% to 35%.

During Esteban's tenure Seton Hall enrolled five of the largest classes in more than 32 years. The numberand proportion of students from out of state also have increased. The incoming freshman class is now nearly40% out of state as opposed to 30% just a few years ago. As a result, total undergraduate population hasincreased by close to 10% since 2009.

Previously, Esteban was provost and chief academicofficer of Seton Hall. In that position, he oversaw eightcolleges and schools, University libraries andenrollment services. Prior to his leadership positions atSeton Hall, Esteban served in senior level leadershippositions and on the faculty at higher educationinstitutions in Arkansas, Texas and the Philippines.

He received a doctorate in administration from theGraduate School of Management of the University ofCalifornia at Irvine and a master of science in Japanese business studies from Chaminade University inHonolulu. Esteban earned a master of business administration and a bachelor of science in mathematicsfrom the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. He also received specialized training in leadingtransformation and change at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education in addition to privatesector work experience in the Philippines and Japan.

Dr. Esteban is a founding board member and vice chairman of the Asian Pacific Islander AmericanAssociation of Colleges and Universities, a new national organization established to advocate on behalf ofminority-serving institutions that have significant numbers of Asian American and Pacific Islander Americanstudents.

Esteban has served American higher education in a number of national roles, including membership on theAccreditation Review Council of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and work as team chair andconsultant-evaluator. Since 2012 he has been a member of the Commission on Inclusion, American Councilof Education (ACE). Esteban serves as vice-chair of the board of the Asian Pacific Americans in HigherEducation (APAHE) and served on the national task force for Voluntary System for Accountability (VSA)sponsored by American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

Most recently, Dr. Esteban has been recognized as a 2015 "Great Immigrant" by the Carnegie Corporation ofNew York. In addition, he has been named one of the 100 most powerful business leaders in New Jersey andone of the 50 most powerful in Health Care in New Jersey by NJBIZ. In honor of his strong religious values,he was knighted to the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

He is the first lay president of Seton Hall in a generation and a devoted fan of Pirate athletic programs. Heand his wife, Josephine, have a daughter, Ysabella '12 who is studying medicine.

Advancement Services Overview

Currently, Seton Hall is forming plans for the University's next transformational campaign. It completed itsmost ambitious fundraising initiative, Ever Forward, in December 2007, raising more than two and a halftimes the total of the University's two previous campaigns combined.

In preparation for the University’s next comprehensive campaign, theAdvancement division has implemented a strategic plan to develop itsresources and operations. A key part of this plan has been the creation ofan integrated Advancement Services department.

The Advancement Services’ team of 14 staff and administrators providesessential services and critical support for all Advancement departmentsand for parallel functions across the University. This centralized unitcombines donor relations, prospect management and research, giftaccounting, constituent systems, and reporting and analysis functions intoone team, allowing for information to be more effectively shared andused.

The Senior Director of Stewardship and Donor Engagement will serve as a senior member of the departmentand the division. As Seton Hall prepares to embark on the most ambitious campaign in its history, the SeniorDirector will guide and implement programs that ensure the inclusion and participation of the University’smost loyal and generous supporters.

David BohanVice President for University Advancement

David J. Bohan, vice president for university advancement, came toSeton Hall in 2012 from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) inPittsburgh, where he was associate vice president of the advancementdivision and executive director of CMU's $1 billion capital campaignsince 2007.

At Seton Hall, he leads the University's fundraising, alumni relations,marketing, communications and government relations functions and is planning for the University's nexttransformational campaign.

Before CMU, Mr. Bohan worked in university advancement at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy,N.Y. in increasingly senior positions before becoming assistant vice president of advancement strategy,services and infrastructure in 2002. He earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering and M.B.A. at RPI.

Daniel NugentAssistant Vice President of Advancement Services and CampaignManager

Daniel Nugent is the Assistant Vice President of Advancement Servicesand Campaign Manager at Seton Hall University. After obtaining hisBA, Public Relations, Communication and his M.P.A., StrategicGovernance and Policy from Seton Hall, he joined the University’s teamin 2003 as the Assistant Director of Admission and then, in 2004, hemoved to University Advancement.

Over the past twelve years, Mr. Nugent has held several roles within University Advancement. He iscurrently responsible for planning and implementing comprehensive, integrated strategies for supportingAdvancement performance, with special attention to providing the base of intelligence and services toidentify and build relationships with prospects, volunteers and donors.
