SET PLAN

• The Senior Education and Training Plan (SET Plan) is a flexible and co-ordinated agreement between the school, students and parents.

• The SET Plan outlines a pathway through the senior years of schooling and is based on abilities, ambitions and interests of the student.

• The SET Plan is mandated by the Qld. Government.

SET PLAN• A SET Plan is being currently completed by the students in

Year 10 as part of the APPS program

• Students will need to review and refine their SET Plans in partnership with their parents in readiness for fruitful discussions at SET Plans interview.

• SET Plans interviews for Year 10 are being held on 15th & 16th August, this will be in conjunction with subject selections.

ATAR

• The ATAR has become the major entry requirement for University access for school students.

• Upon meeting the requirements for an ATAR students will be awarded a rank between 40 – 99.95 upon exit of Year 12.

• QTAC assigns the ATAR after receiving grades from QCAA and applies Inter-subject Scaling.

How do I obtain the ATAR?

• ATAR is calculated from five (5) best General subjects

• Minimum requirements for ATAR is four (4) General subjects and one (1) applied or one (1) Certificate III courses.

• General subjects have more academic rigour than Applied and Certificate III course.

• ALL General subjects require students to sit an External Exam.

• To receive an ATAR, students must pass (‘C’ letter grade) English, Literature or Essential English.

What is a General Subject?

• A requirement of obtaining an ATAR

• 5 general or 4 general +1 applied or certificate

• Each general subject will have an external exam

• 1500 – 2500 word assignments

• Exams 2hrs and 1000 words

• Academic rigour

• Nationally recognised qualifications students are assessed as either competent of not-competent

• Only one Certificate 3 or above will contribute to ATAR

• Delivered internally and externally through TAFE and other Registered Training Organisations (RTO).

• Can be gained through School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SAT)

• Partner school, with priority access given to our students

• Local at Mitchelton SHS

• More focused to high school students

• Semester 1 & 2 intakes

• Scope is increasing and includes (automotive, health, electrotechnology, business, engineering in 2019)

School Based Apprenticeship & Traineeship

• School based apprenticeships and traineeships are advertised regularly

• Student applies and gain position with employer

• Head of Senior School can assist in putting the agreement together through a preferred training organisation.

• Student will gain a Certificate 3 qualification and also be paid for their work (minimum 7 hours a week) and typically last for 12 months

Government Funding

• Based on the Priority Skills List

• Government will provide funding (partial or full) for students to complete Certificate Courses (primarily Cert 2) whilst at school. This is called VETIS.

• Funding also available to employer for providing training to a School-based apprentice or trainee (SAT).

• Cannot access VETIS funding for two courses.

• If more than one certificate course is desired ‘fee for service’ will be need to be paid.

• At this point in time our current stance is that students in Year 11 will have their final opportunity to change subjects at the end of Term 3.

• The reason is the manner in which syllabuses are delivered and credits towards QCE are assigned.

• There will be some exceptions that will be handled on a case by case basis.

• Students in Year 10 will have more flexibility to move subjects at the beginning of the semester.

• English, Mathematics & Applied Positive Psychology are compulsory

• Four (4) Elective subjects will be studied.

• Course readiness is highly recommended.
