Every so often, you comeacross something thatyou will never forget.
Whether that’s your first UTfootball game or your first timeon an airplane, it’s somethingspecial. Well, here’s one of myfirsts: It’s my first time to offi-cially say good-bye.
Four years ago, we startedhigh school. Everyone knew usas the “Class of 2010” or, asmany of us like to point out,“the class of intelligent slackers.” We came into thisbuilding as a group, but today, we depart as individ-uals.
Think about it: Remember when we all stood out-side the west wing and hung out after school? (AKA.Wait for mom to pick us up.)Or when we had our first pep rally and didn’t knowwhen to stand up for fear of being laughed at?How about when we first learned how to rap? (Flint,
Chattahoochie...)Class of 2010, we have come such a long way! Today,
we can actually leave school when school gets out; wehave to admit that tardiness is our fault; and many ofus depart as legal adults. On top of many other things,we have formed clubs, been crowned state champi-ons, matched Mr. Glover, etc. We have accomplishedmuch and have much to be proud of.
And now comes the real world. Let’s make each dayworth something. Never settle for less than what youdesire. So many times, we feel that we have to bedoing something “prestigious” to be worth some-thing, whether that’s going to college or pursuing ajob. But all in all, do what YOU want to do becauseit’s you that will have to live your life, not anyone else.Pursue happiness today and every day, and remem-ber that we’re all human. No one is better than anyoneelse. So make a point to be selfless and bring happi-ness to others.
A big thanks to all of the teachers that helped usalong the way. And a HUGE thanks to Mrs. Edwardsfor her support of this student-run paper. Without herdedication, the paper would not be as great as it is.Others editors, you all are awesome! I have learnedmuch from you over the past three years!
And now, thank you, seniors! High school wouldnot have been the same without you. And now, for thefirst and last time, I bid you adieu! Good-bye, seniors.Good-bye and God bless each of you!

Over and out,Katie Taylor
Well guys, we finally made it! We are graduating andleaving high school forever. No more Trojan footballon Friday nights, dress code (but who says that’s a
bad thing), drama plays, Miss DHS, homecoming, morning an-nouncements with Mrs. Chris, turkey & dressing day, and tenseDyer County games. This time, we actually leave school whenit dismisses.
Although it is sad to go, we’ve had some great times in thisbuilding over the last four years. Beating the senior girls indodgeball at sophomore year football homecoming, sitting outon the football field for two hours during a bomb threat, “ac-tivity period,” and many more. Those memories will stay withus as we all leave and go our seperate ways.
Of course at the end of the year we tell everyone to “Have a great summer!” and“See you next year!” This time is different, it’s officially time to say good-bye. Sayinggood-bye to those you see everyday in class, in the hallway or in lunch; the peoplewe’ve had classes with since kindergarten all the way up until now.
Thank you to all the teachers that have helped us succeed and strive these last fouryears. Without your dedication and commitment, none of us would be where we aretoday.
But most of all, I would like to thank the Class of 2010. You all made my four yearsof high school ones that I will remember and cherish always. I can’t imagine goingthrough DHS without any of you. The Class of 2010 will always hold a special placein my heart.
Having to say good-bye to any of you is something I’ve been dreading all of highschool but the time has come. But good-bye is forever, so I say to all of you, see youlater! I love you all and God bless.
Toodles,Anna Claire Bradshaw

Ithink what we don’t realize ishow important this school is toour lives. We just get stuck in
the rut of everyday living and for-get to stop and see where we are. Iknow that I am extremely guilty ofthis. But it is not just this school Iam ready to move away from: it isa variety of things. I think that withhaving that kind of attitude, welose this great and abundant appre-ciation for the life that we are
presently living. You see, what we forget is that the list of things todo before we die or a goals list is good, but a lot of times we arebusy talking about living or changing but never really doing either.Lately I’ve had this sour attitude about life, and I had so many waysI was going to change mine. But was is the key word. Then the floodhappened and the benefit concert happened and life was happen-ing. It hit me; it got me out of a rut. I woke up and realized that lifewasn’t waiting for me; it was going to continue and make a differ-ence, and whether or not I was going to join in was up to me. I donot know if this makes sense to readers or if you even care. But Ido wish someone had reminded me to stop just making plans tolive and actually accept that my life is valuable presently, as well.Your life is valuable; achieve each day not as if you’re ready for thebetter years to come but as if you’re ready to accept all that youhave been granted right now. Above all, love. Love the people youare around and let them know how valuable they are to you. Overthese four years, I have met some incredible people and it was easyto love them, but love when it is not easy. I think this will changehigh school as we all know it. Thank you to journalism for helpingme learn this. To the people in the cafeteria whose name I onlylearned, you are going to change the world. To my friends whowere near, you have helped me experience what love is all about.Mrs. Edwards, I cannot imagine my life before meeting you and Iwon’t be the same. Last but not least, build relationships like this; itis what He intended.
It's so hard to write something that captures it all. Journalism is the bestthing I've done during high school. I’ll always remember that dimly-lit, computer-filled room and the wonderful people inside it.
When I was a nervous little sophomore sitting in the corner, I had noidea what this class would eventually mean to me. I was scared to deathof all these big upperclassmen with their fancy computers. As time wenton, however, things started to change. I started to change. I really creditmy first two years on the Torch staff with bringing me out of my shell andhelping me become myself. I learned to be more comfortable working withothers, and to not be afraid of trying something new and different.
I've seen some things in the newest crop of student journalists that re-mind me a lot of myself. I remember what it's like to be in your place, andto be honest I was probably a lot more lost than you were in the beginning. But at the same time, this year's juniors and seniors have so much talentand potential that it blows my mind. Seriously. I can't wait to see what youaccomplish next year. This newspaper is yours now. I have just one pieceof advice: Have some vision. Don't just settle for doing things the waywe've always done them. You're much more capable than you believe; I'veseen it in you. You'll be okay.
To my classmates and fellow editors—Katie, Anna Claire, Jaylin, andAlex— thank you so much. Thank you, Katie, for balancing all my crazyideas with your logic and straightforwardness, and for keeping this news-paper running smoothly. Thank you, Anna Claire, for keeping it real.Thank you so much, Jaylin, for being THE most positive and dependableperson I know. And thank you, Alex, forbeing my best friend even when I don'tdeserve it. You guys are the ones whomade this possible.
To Ms. Edwards—I don't have thewords to tell you how grateful I am foryou and everything you've done. I'm soglad you were a part of my life. It's beengood.
When I began journalism in tenth grade, it scared me. I felt incapable of meeting the challenge of being in a classthat actually called on me to do things out of my comfort zone. I wanted to run away. It was an extremely socialenvironment, and I wasn't the most social person. Also, it probably didn't help that I didn't know most of the
people. As time progressed, though, this beautiful experience started opening up. I realized that it was the people I worked with that made it great. I learned how critical it is to have people around you
that respect you and what it’s like to have everyone working together. Mrs. Edwards is the best teacher I've ever had. She describes things so clearly and works incredibly hard. She doesn't have
to work so hard, but she does, because you can see that she cares. She's not just here for the paycheck. I can only hope I findsomething I am passionate about like that one day and have the confidence she does.
And the students around me are also amazing, all in their own ways. Will finds this way to always reach down inside meand give me hope. Jaylin pours her sunshine out on everyone around her and warms hearts. Katie makes a point to noticepeople; she always says hi to me and asks how I'm doing. Anna Claire can hold a conversation better than any person Iknow. Allison radiates enthusiasm and is always willing to help. Kopper always listens and makes me feel like I matter. These are just some of the people who have made the experience astounding.
I learned that people are quite different, but they're really not as different as you'd think. I used to shut myself off from the world around me,because I felt as if I had limited things to offer or the people around me were just "too different." Now, I hold a completely different viewpoint. Isee that you can always connect with someone, it just takes more effort with some people than others. And nine times out of ten, the connectionsare something that you don’t regret. I look at all the connections I've made in journalism and I would never take it back. Ever. Even if I had to doit all again, I would do it again. I wouldn't trade where I am now for anything. So, I write this to say, challenge yourself. If you have somethingcompletely out of your comfort zone that sounds horrific to you, please attempt to do it. It's in that moment that you'll find who you are.
Sincerely,Alex Jacobi
Yours, William Bumpas
Love,Jaylin Gardner
