    Senator Hatch Understands the Policies Needed to Ensure

    Manufacturers Succeed

    WASHINGTON, D.C., May 3, 2013 Today, the National Association ofManufacturers (NAM) awarded Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) the NAMs Award forManufacturing Legislative Excellence at an event hosted by NAM member ThermoFisher Scientific. Senator Hatch supported 81percent of the policies identified by theNAM as critical to the success of manufacturing in the United States during the 112thCongress.

    Thermo Fisher Scientific thanks Senator Hatch for ensuring thatthe manufacturing voice is heard in Washington, said Cory Stevenson, vice presidentand general manager, bioprocess production for Thermo Fisher Scientific. It's leaderslike Senator Hatch who know that manufacturers are drivers of economic growth, jobcreation and prosperity. Thermo Fisher especially appreciates his efforts to supportbasic research funding for the National Institutes of Health; repeal the medical devicetax; and strive toward a more competitive global tax system.

    "Manufacturing is critical to the economic success of our nation," stated SenatorHatch. "I appreciate this honor from the National Association of Manufacturing and thepolicies it represents. I look forward to continuing to work together to strengthenmanufacturing in our country so that American companies can not only competesuccessfully here at home, but in the global economy."

    Manufacturers today compete in a global marketplace, said NAM President andCEO Jay Timmons. It is critical that Washington creates policies to keep us competitiveand maintain our mantle of economic leadership. Senator Hatch understands this andhas consistently supported the pro-manufacturing agenda through his votes inCongress.

    These awards are based on members of Congresss votes on key manufacturinglegislation identified by the NAM in the 112th Congress. These included key votes onissues such as energy policy, taxes and regulations, among others. Each key vote wasselected by the NAMs Key Vote Advisory Committee, which is comprised of NAMmember companies and associations.

    Members of Congress are notified in advance when key votes are pending andwhy the key vote designation has been made. The NAM is nonpartisan and does notendorse candidates. Voting records for all members of Congress and further detailsabout NAM Key Manufacturing Votes are available here.
