    Introduction

    Solar thermal power system alsoknown as concentrating solar powersystem use concentrated solar

    radiation as high temperature energysource to produce electricity usingthermal route. In this process ofconversion of solar energy into heatenergy an incident solar irradiation iscollected and concentrating solarcollector or mirrors.

    Solar collectors

    Solar collector are used to produceheat from solar radiation. Hightemperature solar energy collectorsare basically of three types;

    1.parabolic trough system.

    2.power tower system

    Parabolic trough system

    Parabolic trough system at the receivercan reach 400`c and produce steam forgenerating electricity

    Parabolic trough power plant are linefocusing solar thermal electric power

    Trough system use the mirrored surface oflinear parabolic concentrator to focusdirect solar radiation on the absorber

    be reached. A heliostat is a device that tracks the

    moment of the sun which is used toorient a mirror of field of mirrorsthroughout the day to reflect sunlight onto a target receiver.

    Parabolic dish system

    Parabolic dish system can reach 1000c atthe receiver and achieved the highestefficiencies for converting solar energyinto electricity

    The parabolic system uses a parabolic dishshaped mirror or a modular mirror systemthat approximate a parabola andincorprate two axis tracking to fcous onthe sunlight into receiver located at thefocal point of the dish which absorber theenergy and convert into thermal energy

    This is a fairly simply concept. The solarchimney has a tall chimney at the centreof the field which covered with glass. The

    solar heat generate hot air in the gapbetween the ground and the gall coverwhich is then passed through the centraltower it is upper end due to density

    difference between relativly cooler airoutside the upper end of the tower andhotter air inside tower.

    Of the various types of solar thermalpower plant, parabolic torch and solartower plants are described in more detailbellow.

    The trough collectors that make up troughpower plant are large cylindrical parabolicmirror that concentrate that sunlight on aline focus several are these collectors areinstalled in row about a hundred meterlong and the total solar field is composedof such parallel rows.

    Future perspectives

    Although small photovoltaic system andphotovoltaic stand alone system today arealready competitive with conventionalelectricity supply system the solution forgrid connected system is totally different.their cost can be improved if they areintegrated into buildings, however if thereis no significant increase in fossil fuel

    prices, large grid photovoltaic system wellstill depend upon the governmentalsupport in the mind term.

    A solar power generation plant is a goodoperation of electrification in area that arelocated away from the grid line or where

    other source are neither available a solarpower plant of the size 10-100kw dependsupon the load demand. this coupled withthe low gestation period, simple operation

    and maintance are resulting insulation ofsolar power plant in remote areas of manystates need electrification.

    conclusions

    Solar thermal and photovoltaic electricitygeneration are two promising technologiesfor climate compatible power with suchenormous potent ional that they could

    cover more then just the presentworldwide demand for electricityconsumption. Photovoltaic system haveadvantage for low power demand standalone system and building-integrated grid-

    connected system. solar thermal powerplant are best operated in large grid-connected system.
