ALC Forum 2014
•The ALC Forum identifies key issues, projects and initiatives industry wants action on by all governments, particularly in the area of freight logistics infrastructure.
•The captains of Australia’s freight logistics industry sent a clear, loud and unified message to all levels of government that it is “time to deliver” to improve supply chain efficiency in Australia.
Time to Deliver
• Delivery on major infrastructure projects
• Delivery on long-term freight planning
• Delivery on reforms to increase productivity, reduce red tape and improve safety in the freight logistics industry.
ALC Advocacy around last year’s federal election
• Prior to the election ALC identified four key priority areas for consideration by all major political parties
• After the election, ALC released Stronger Supply Chains, A Stronger Australia which outlines ten critical logistics issues requiring greater government focus and attention to improve supply chain efficiency in Australia.
How ALC communicates with governments
• We do this both formally and informally through a number of channels:
- ALC regularly holds events to facilitate discussion between Industry and Government
- Future Freight Networks, ALC’s annual yearbook highlights the reasons for Australia’s social and economic dependence on the transport and logistics sector
ALC working to influence national and state freight strategies
• ALC is actively lobbying for the preservation of land freight corridors - Fremantle Port highlights poor outcomes for freight and residents
New Residential apartment buildings 20 – 30 metres from rail freight line to the Inner Harbour
Residential development only metres from a key freight route
Conclusion
• Still some work to do, but we are making progress on some critical issues, including infrastructure investment, regulatory reform and safety improvements
