SEMI - CONDUCTORS
CONDUCTORS
INSULATORS
MATERIAL PROPERTIESo SEMI – CONDUCTOR’S Any class of solids whose
electrical conductivity is between that of a conductor and that of an insulator in being nearly great as that of metal at high temperatures and nearly absent at low temperatures.
Eg:- micro-processer chips, transistors, L.E.D etc. REFRENCE :-electrical engineering

TYPES OF SEMI- CONDUCTOR’S INTRINSIC
SEMICONDUCTOR’S:
In simple words, an intrinsic semi-conductor is one which is made up of a pure semi-conductor material. In more technical terminology, it can be stated that an intrinsic semi-conductor is one where the no of holes is equal to number of electrons in the conduction band.
Eg:- silicon and germanium etc. REFRENCE :-electrical engineering

EXTRINSIC SEMI-CONDUCTOR’S:
These are semi-conductors in which the pure state of the semi-conductor material is deliberately diluted by adding very minute quantities of impurities.
To be more specific, the impurities are known as dopants or doping agents.
Eg:-silicon crystal , Aluminium, boron etc.

CONDUCTOR’S
REFRENCE:-conductors and insulatorsBy:- Royston, Angela. Oxford
Electrical conductor is substance in which electrical charge carriers usually electrons move easily from atom to atom with application of voltage is called conductor.
Eg:- cooper , steel , gold , aluminium etc.
INSULATOR’S
REFRENCE:-conductors and insulatorsBy: Royston, Angela. Oxford
An electrical insulator is a material whose internal electric charges do not flow freely, and therefore make it nearly impossible to conduct an electric current under the influence of an electric field.
Eg:- rubber , wood , plastic etc.
Difference Between Conductor and Insulator:-
Conductors are good at conducting heat and/or electricity.
Insulators are not good at conducting heat and/or electricity.
The best conductors have many free carriers, such as electrons.
The best insulators do not have many free carriers.
