What is Etsy?

“Etsy is a marketplace where people around the world connect, both

online and offline, to make, sell and buy unique goods.”

Page 5: Selling on Etsy Part 1 of 5

What is Etsy?

It is an online buyer and seller community similar to eBay

Unlike eBay it focuses on hand-crafted and vintage goods

Sellers and buyers do not welcome resellers on Etsy

It is a people-powered exchange with person-to-person commerce

Sellers & buyers communicate and business directly with each other

It is like a farmer’s market for crafters

What is Etsy?

Its concept and focus is on creative niches

Products fall into the category of arts, crafts, jewelry, paper-goods, housewares, artisan candies, or baked goods

Vintage items must be at least 20-years old to qualify and can range from costumes, clothing, jewelry, photos and housewares

The Evolution of Etsy

million in annual sales.

2008: Chris Maguire and Haim Schoppik leave the company. Chad

Dickerson is hired as Etsy’s new Chief Technology Officer. This was the beginning of a major turning

point for the company.
