Biography On April 16, 1971,

Selena Quintanilla Pérez was born in Lake Jackson, Texas. She started getting interested in music at age 3. By the time she was nine, her father started a musical group with her two siblings. After that her music career took off; in 1986, she was discovered by the Tejano Music Industry. Selena le gusta cantar.

Biography cont. Selena was known as the

“Top Latin artist of the 90’s”. Her fame spread throughout Spanish-speaking countries, and she was adored by thousands of fans. Sadly, on Friday, March 31, 1995, Selena was shot in the back while trying to run from Yolanda Saldivar, the president of one of Selena’s fan clubs. Her death deeply saddened the Hispanic community, but they will always remember and look up to her. Selena era muy talentoso.

Achievement 2 Another important achievement of

Selena’s career is her winning Best Mexican-American Album at the Academy Awards in 1994. This greatly honored the Latin community. Selena es buena y simpática.

This proved that her music spread not only through Hispanic countries, but in other places, too. Selena was one of the few Hispanics to do so. Ella es trabajadora.

Legacy Selena Quintanilla Pérez was a musical inspiration to many Hispanics. Her legacy continues on in many ways. First, George W. Bush declared March 31st, Selena’s birthday, “Selena Day” in Texas. Secondly, her life was made into a movie and musical after she passed away. Lastly, in 2006, they opened and Selena museum and a life-sized bronze statue in honor of her. Selena es atrevida.
