And so Toy Story serves to remind us of the importance of child’s play and the Toys which are an integral part of that. A message which Steve Jobs, the executive producer of the Toy Story films and genius behind Apple Computers, spent his life trying to communicate to the world. As fantastic as Spiderman can be he also reminds us from time to time of some very real world issues and provides a healthy dose of pragmatism into developing young minds.

The wise and noble Pocahantasis based on real life native American girl who befriended and saved the life of the colonist leader John Smith in Jamestown. She was adopted by Disney in 1995 as their seventh princess.

From the far east we have Fa Mulan. The courageous and heroic Chinese warrior who defies all the rules of her society to sneak into the army disguised as a man to fight the Huns so that her elderly father doesn’t have to. She is Disney’s eighth princess making her appearance in 1998.

Tiana was introduced in 2009s The Princess and the Frog as a hard working, industrious and entrepreneurial southern gal who aspires to charm the world with her culinary skills in her very own restaurant. She is unwittingly turned into Disney’s ninth princess after a chance encounter with a prince who is down on his luck.

Rapunzel comes from the Brothers Grim tales and was adapted by Disney in 2010 for the film Tangled. She is famous for her long golden hair with its healing abilities who was stolen from her parents as child by an evil witch while imprisoned in an isolated tower for eighteen years. She’s now free in time to celebrate her 18th birthday as a free woman and to finally see the world as Disney’s tenth princess.

Merida is the fiery headed, swashbuckling, horse riding archer of the animated feature Brave who takes control of her own destiny despite the traditional expectations of her mother the Queen. She is her own woman, at times a bit impetuous and has yet to find a suitor who is worth a second thought. She is Disney’s eleventh and latest princess as of 2012.
