    Ch r i s t :

    In grea t

    antic ipation

    we are making

    f inal preparations

    fo r

    our

re turn t r ip to the

Philippines via Texas Arizona and Los Angeles.

    During

the time we have been in the

    States

    we

    have had

    a

    very busy

    speaking schedule

    which has included

    several

Fai th Promise ra l l ies

    and

    other types of missionary

    ra l l ies .

In early February Roberta enter ed the famox^

    Ochsner

Clinic in New Orleans where she underwent a ll of the traditional tests with essentially the

    same

    results

as those obtained in earlier tests in other clinics in the Philippines and the

    U. S. In all of the places she has been the doctors are amazed at the fre(iuency and inten

si ty of her migraines and a l l seem

    equally

puzzled as to what to do about them. V/e seek

    your con ti nued

    prayers

    in her behalf .

    Reports from the

    Philippines

    indicate

    another

    fruitful

    year

    for the Lord. 70

    students

    have been enrolled in the

    Seminary and

    they are looking forward to

    their annual commencement

    exercises

    in

    early April A

    total of

    540 were enrolled

    in the

    two

    Christian

    High Schools

    in

    Galinaoan and San Guillermo.

    Up

    to Dec. 30, 46

    students

had been baptized at San Guillermo.

    No

report has been received from Galinaoan, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis McKinney

    are

    novf back

    in

    San

    Guillermo.

    They

    spent several

    weeks

    in

    Aparri

    in

    late

    December and

    early January

    after

having received a threatening letter demanding money

    from

    the school.

    We

    are happy nothing

serious has come of this Sid and Marj Boudreaux along with our many Filipino co-workers

    have

    done

    a

    great

    job

    at

    the

    Seminary

    and

    in

    keeping the printed material flowing

    from

    the

press. Ann Tolliver has had complete responsibility in the office especially in the hand

ling of finances fo r the entire work, and has done a fine job with that.

    The press has been very

    bxisy

with the regular publication of the two

    monthly

    papers,

    the Sund^

    School

    quarterly,

    and

    the printing of

    100,000 copies

    of some I4 different traots.

    In addition to

    this

    a large

    volume

    of printing

    is done

    for the Christian

    High

    Schools.

    We

    are praying

    for

special funds for the purchase of a 17 by 22 inch off-set press to augment

our present equipment. This additional equipment would enable us to print several tracts by

    the

    hundreds

    of thousands of copies

    and

would also permit us to develop

    and

    print a Bible

    Correspondence

    course. A

    fund

    has

    been

    started for the

    purchase

    of this press

    and

    related

    equipment by an

    anonymous

    donor who sent 0445 10.

    If

you are part icularly interested in this

    part of our

    work,

we would surely appreciate gifts to add to this special fund.

Much interest has been manifested concerning the plan to establish four more Christian

    High Schools. Potential

    sites

in two different provinces have been

    chosen

    for the location

of these schools. 20,000,00 will build and fully equip a school building to house

    4OO

    to

    500 students.

    TV/ENTY

    MEN

    COULD BUILD

    A SCHOOL SIMPLY

    BY BORROWING

    1,000.00

    APIECE

    AND

    TRUSTING

    THE LORD TO

    PROVIDE

THAT AliOUNT DURING THE NEXT YEAR

    OR TITO. Such

    a school would

    make an education possible

    for

thousands dircing the next twenty to thirty years. We feel i t

    extremely

    urgent

    that

    these

high schools get under way just as

    soon

    as possible.

    Your

    help

    now,

    will enable us to acquire

    sites

    and get buildings started. The

    earlier

    we

    get these

    schools

    started, the

    sooner

    they

    will

    become

    self-supporting

    and

    the

    sooner they

    will

    begin

to reach thousands of young people who will

    someday

become the leaders in every segment of

    society,

    ^One way

    in

    which

    many

    can

    help

    with

    these

    schools

    is

    through

    the

    donation

    of

    books

    or the libraries.

    \7e

    would

    also appreciate

    information

    concerning any

    used

    laboratory

    eqxripment which can

    be obtained

    either through

    donation

    or

    purchase, e

    are hoping to get

a Christian Liberal Arts College started very soon and will need all kinds of library

    books

    and

    laboratory

equipment fo r th is as

    well .

    We are

    getting

    quite

    excited

    about

    our proposed radio work.

    Many

    people

    a ll

    over the

    U. S. are extremely i nt er es ted in the possibility of our broadcast ing th e Gospel over the

    small commercial stations now

    operating

in the Cagayan Valley We can

    have

    a daily 15 minute

    program

    for about

    50 00 a month, \7e

    are

also being urged to establish a powerful station

of our own on Northern Luzon for the purpose of broadcasting

    via

    short wave into Communist

    China and

    other

    countries

    of

    S, E,

    Asia.

    This

    of

    course

    will

    depend on

    our

    getting

    a

    permit for

    such

a station from the Philippine government. A

    special

    fund

    of more than S7OO

    is now available

    to

    help v/ith

    the

    purchase of top quality professional

    equipment

    for

    the

    set t ing

    up of a recording

    studio

    which

    will

    be used

    for

    preparing

    and

    recording our ov/n pro

    grams

    for

broadcast ing. Spec ia l gif ts

    to

    help in the

    purchase

of this equipment will be much

    appreciated.

    Regular

    monthly support

    for

    this radio

    work

    will

    help get the message

    of

    New

    Testament

    Christianity

    to hundreds of thousands of

    people

    in the Philippines right now.

    These next few

    years

    are going to be

    crucial ones. I f

    our

    future

    plans are realized

    i t

    will nearly t r iple

    our

    present

    budget.

    Regular

    monthly support

    for a ll phases of

    the work

    is

    most

    important.

    Please do remember us

    in your prayers

    and

    we

    concerning

    the

work in Northern Luzon in the Philippines. Because of t h i s we would l ike to acquaint

you briefly with tha t work, past , present and

    future.

    Ro berta and I

    1947* By

    we wi l l

    be

    back

    there ready

    to

begin o\ir 25th year of work.

    All

dur in g t he se

years we have l ived in the town of Aparri on the very northern sea-coast of Luzon Island

    a t th e

    point where

    the

    Cagayan River, the largest

    r iver

    in the

    Philippines, empties

    into

    the China

    Sea.

    Our f i e ld

    o f lab or i s primari ly in

    the

Cagayan Valley which i s composed

    of three provinces,

    Cagayan,

    Isabela

    and

    Nueva Vizcaya.

We are helping with a very su c-

    ^ss foL

    Vvangffln

    t ic w6rk~in the Province

    of Abra

    and

    have some

    rk in

    th e f r i h^s of

    some of the provinces

    adjacent to

the Cagayan Valley. Working with us in th is

    area are

    Sid

    and

    Marj Boudreaux,

    Dennis

    and

    Lorri t ta

McKinney and Ann Toll iver .

During the past 24 years, a Bible College Aparri Bible Seminary), a

    printing

    press

and two Christian High Schools have been established

    to

    augment

    the evangelist ic program

of the area. As a result, there are 40 to 50 preachers in the area at present (all trained

    in

    Aparri Bible Seminary),

    at least

60 Churches have been established and thousands

    of

    souls

    have

    been won

    to

Chris t . The High Schools a re permi tt ing us

    to teach

    the Word of God

    to hundreds

of young people each year. 540 were enrolled in the two schools in th e

    19707

    school

    year. At leas t 70

    of

    these were won to Christ dur ing t he f i r s t

    Semester. In

    the

    1969-70

    school

    year with

    5OO

    enrolled, 155

    were

    baptized

    into

    Christ .

    Since these High Schools are

    proving

    to be so

    effective

in the ir evangelis t ic impact,

    plans

    cal l

    for the establishment of four

    more such

    schools. We

    were thri l led beyond

measure when on March 21st the Church in

    Flora, I l l inois a t

    a special congregational meet

    ing, voted

    overwhelmingly

    in

    favor of

    making available, whenever t i s needed,

    the

    sum

    of

    20,000.00 which

    i s

    the

    estimated

    cost

    of a

    high school

    building,

    fully

    equipped,

    to house

    from 400 to

    500

    young people.

    We

    have heard unofficial ly

    that

    a

    group

    of young couples

    in

    a

    Bible School class

    have commi tted themselves

    to b ui ld

    a

second of t he se s chool s,

    and

    word

    has been

    received from

another congregation tha t they plan to lead

    out

    in

    an effor t to

    raise

    20,000.00

    from

    among the

    Churches

    in the ir area for

    a

    third

    school. Because

    of

    this t re-

    mehdou^response

    from

    bre thr^

    in ^

    three differeht^S'Eates,

    we aire

    sure i t l ^Gdd^s

    will

    that

    we proceed

    with

    a ll possible

    speed

    in getting

    these

    schools

    opened.

    Future

    plans

    also cal l

    for the

    establishment

of a Christ ian Liberal Arts College,

    primari ly

fo r t ra ining Christ ian

    teachers,

teachers not only for our own

    High Schools,

    but for the other

    High Schools

    of the

    area and fo r the

    vas t

    elementary school

system of the whole Cagayan Valley.

    Radio

    i s

    another

    f ield

    tha t

    has

    opened

    up

    especially

    since

    the

    development

    of

    th e

    t ransis tor

    radio. We are

    excited

about the opportunit ies in th is f ield I t i s our

    plan

    to

    set

up a recording studio using professional equipment. We will need two tape recorders,

    two

    turntables

    and a mixer and

    a t l eas t

    three

    high

    qual i ty microphones.

    This

    would

    en

    able us to prepare

    excellent

    programs ,on tape

    to

send out to at least three different sta

    tions in

    the

    Cagayan Valley.

    Several

hundreds of dollars have already been pledged and

    se t aside

    for

    this

    eq\iipment.

    We are

    hoping

    to

    have this purchased in

    Seattle

    and shipped

    to us directly from there.

    We are

    not

    sure just yet

    as

    to the

    exact cost of this equipment,

    but

    will find that out

    soon.

Anyone desiring to help with the

    purchase

    of

    this

    equipment

may do so by sending your designated

    gifts

    to our Nebraska address.

    I t is

    possible that

    this

    recording

    studio may

    sometime be expanded into a

    radio

    station and used

    to

    broadcast

    the

    Gospel no t only

    in

    the

    Philippines

but into Red China and other

    countries

    of Asia.

    been a

    very

    active and

    hard

working man. We will find a great gap in the family circle the

next time we return home. The incident that brought persona) joy to Roberta

    and

    me was

    th e

news of the birth, on November 8 (l^V>berta's birthday), of our first grandchild, Eric William. His

    parents are Rob

    and

Brenda Selby who are now at Milligan College, Tennessee.

    We are sorry to report

    that

Roberta's health is no better. She has been in bed almost every

day s ince-our return -to the Philippines-last May. -There just seems ta be nothing we-can--do for

the migraines from whicb .she suffers almost daily. To add to her problems, in early November

    she came dQ^7jwith\ ,a4;^yere s^ep,Infection which

    seems

to have developed into what we hope

    is a slight case of

    Rheumatic

    Fever. She is under

    treatment

    for

    that at

    present

    and

    is

    not

    feeling

    at

    all well. We would

    surely appreciate your prayers

    for

    her

    at

    this

    time

    especially.

Ann Tolliver, our niece, is just now beginning her

    third

year in the work here. She has taken

    over

    the

    major

responsibilities in the office where she

    puts

    in long

    hours

    every day, often up

until 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. She has also taken over

    much

of the responsibilities in our home during

this very difficult time of Roberta 's illness. She has made herself essentially indispensable. I really

    wonder, at

    times,

    how

    we

    ever got

    along-

    without her.

    .

The work is coming along very well. We would likp to share some of

    the

    highlights of what

    has been^ going on

    and

    some of

    ou r

    plans for

    the year

    ahead.

    Aparri Bible

    Seminary: More than ninety

young people enrolled in the Seminary this

    year,

    the

largest enrol lmeri t in the h is tory of

    the

    school. 12 of this

    number

    have been. .bap%^

Christ. Several of the upper class students as well as the faculty members are ou t eaim week-end

    in evangelistic work of some

    nature.

    The

Seminary choir under the leadership of Marj Rtradreaux

^presented a Christmas program of music in f9ur different Churches in. mid-December. Miss Barbara

Mangskau, a senior student from Ozark Bible College, here for a one year internship, is making

    a terrific contribution to

    our

    Seminary program. Besides

    the

    classes she teaches

    and the

    piano

    lessons

    she-gives, she has trained a

    male

quartet which is inv great demand

    nmong

    the^bretl^en

everywhere. The quarte t participated in the Week of Evangelism at one of the High Schools

    and made

    quite an

    impact upon the students

    through their singing, preaching

    and

    personal witnessing.

    - ^Bvfmgefwm^-222 baptisms

    Dennia-Mc-

Kinney has been woTking with several of the preachers throughout the Cagayan Valley holding

Bible Ins ti tu tes and Evangelis tic meetings in var ious places. These

    have

    resulted in a

    number

    of

    souls,

    won to

    Christ

    and

    much

    good

    has

    been

    done

    in

    strengthening

    the Churches. We are mak

    ing plans

    for

forming two more such teams, mostly from among our Seminary faculty rnembers.

    At

present we are rebuilding and overhauling

    our

    two old Jeeps which

    Will

    be used*for this work.

These teams will be involved in full time Evangelism during the summer months and on week

ends during the school year. We hope to be able to initiate a tract distribution program that will

    ^ut

at .i^ast one tract in every

    home

in the. Cagayan Valley. Plans are being made for our annual

    youth

    calhps, as well as

    ah

    extens ive DVBS program.

    The Print ing Work:

    60,000 copies, of various

    t racts have

    just

    come off

    the

    press. All of these

    are in I locano,

    written

by our Filipino preachers and teachers.

    This

    is in

    addition to the

    two

    papers

that are pu t ou t regularly, one for

    adults and

    one for young people. The

    Sunday

    School

    quarterly

    is also

    being printed

    in Ilocano

    and

    is quite widely

    distributed, even

    as

    far away

    as Mindanao.

    It

    will be necessary to

    print at

    least one of our present

    tracts

    by

    the

    hundreds of thousands if we

are able to carry ou t

    the

plan to put a tract in every home in the Cagayan Valley. We need

    to expand this work a

    great

    deal

    and

    in

    order

to do so, We will need

    another

    press.

    It

    has been

suggested that we acquire a Hiedelberg KORD offset press. We are waiting, upon the Lord in

    this.

    A new

    one

    costs

    about

    $15,000.00. We

can ge t it here just

    as cheaply as we

    can

    in

    the

    States.

    Do

    pray

    with

    us

    about

    this.

    Christian High Schoois:

    Around 500

    young

people enrolled in our two Christian High Schools

    this

    year.

80 of this number were baptized into Christ .dgring the

    annual

    first semester week of

    evapgellsm

    held

    -in

    Npveraber. Another

    such

    week

    will

    be held

    in

    each

    school

    in

    latfe

    March

    or

eari 'iApril- i: Ttfere wilf be mbrri- ihan 100 young people graduating from these-schools in April.

    We are enthusiastic about

    the poten ti al

    these

    young

people represent for Chris t and

    His

    Church

    in th e

    years

    to come.

    The Radio Work:

    At

    present

    we

    have two

radio programs, one once a wec;k..andjQQe three

times a week on stations in the

    provinces

of Isabeia and Nueva Vizcaya. We are still planning

    ^lo ppt up a

    recording

    studio of our

    own

    during 1972. It will

    ^then

    be possible to

    record

    all of

    our programs at

    the

    studio

    and send

    them ou t

    on

    tape

    to

    the various s ta tions

    fn

    Northern

    Luzon.

    We-plan to haye at

    least

three and perhaps four daily programs on as many stations

    in

    North-

,ern Luzon by the end of 1972.'

    The

recordiiig studiri Will -be built in such a way as to be fully

.vadequate. for, a radio station of our own if we find it possible to

    start

    a such station.' We would

like to broadcast both here in

    the.

Philippines and to >011 of the

    cour^tries

    of Southeast

    Asia,

    via

short wave, including Communist China. We have around $2,000.00

    set

    aside for equipment for

    5/5

    the recording studio and

    will

need more tlian that to get all that wc have been advised to get.

    This equipment

    will

be the kind that can be used in the radio stalion when and if we get it set up.

Christian L ib er al A rt s College: These plans are still in the formative stage as are pla ns for

add itio nal Chris tian Hig h Schools. Some rad ical chan ges are tak in g place in the Philipp in e s edu cation al

system at present and we are watching these very closely. Most of these changes have to do with

th e high school system. I feel it is very wise to get a Christian College established just ns soon

as possible. Please pray with us about this also.

    Many

    of you

    Who

receive this letter will find receipts enclosed covering the past several rnonlhs.

We are so grateful for your continued faithful s upp or t. Y our gifts are what keep this work moving

fo rward . Souls are being won Chu rch es are being estab lish ed and s tren gthened and tomorro w s lead

ers are being reached and trained in

    many

ways. This is your work. Do pray for it. We do

    no t

know ho w th e devaluation of

    Die

    dollar

    will

    affect

    us.

    We trust

    the Lord

    to

    lake

    care

    of it.
