Look and read these two facts!
Mt.Everest is 8.850 meters above the sea level
and the summit is about 600 meters below the
sea level.
The base of Mauna Kea is about 6000 meters
below sea level and the summit is about 4000
meters above sea level.
Translate each situation described in pictures above into mathematical sentence!

Games : Integers ladder
Teacher will provide two dices (Black and red), the black die represent positive numbers and the red
represent negative number. Each group must roll both die and then move the pion up and down
according to the number they get and they will record it on their recording sheets. Those who reach
the start first is the winner.

LEARNING CONTRACT
Jakarta, ______ July 2014
I, ____________, from class 4-5___ of SekolahHighScope Indonesia, KelapaGading will choose the following method(s) to learn about ADDING INTEGERS. (Tick √ where ever appropriate). adding by using counters adding by using number line adding by using the rule
I will use the time given wisely so that I will be able to do the individual work following the completion of Recording Sheet 2: Adding Integers
Tier 1Method : Counters
Step 1 Take 5 black buttons as counters for the first number, i.e. to represent -5
Step 2 Take 8 white buttons as counters for the second number, i.e. to represent +8
Step 3 Pair each of the black buttons with each of the white buttons. Once, the black buttons have paired with the white buttons, remove the pairs away. Continue until you run out of the black buttons.
Count the number of buttons left. In this case, there will 3 white buttons left over. So -5 + 8 = 3
Remember: Integers and their opposite are the same distance away from zero. Thus, the sums are equal to zero.
So, this means that a black counter and a white counter together equal zero.
Use counters to find each sum, draw a picture of your answer!

Rules for Addition
Below is a table to help condense the rules for addition. Note the second and third rows of the body of the table. Those answers are dependent upon the original values.
