    25YEARS1978 -2003

  • For over twenty five years Sensonics instrumentation has been used throughoutindustry for the monitoring of both seismic and structural vibration events. Weare the leading supplier of Seismic Monitoring and Protection systems to the UKNuclear Industry. Whether the requirement is for a single transducer or a fullycustomised multi-location monitoring system, Sensonics can provide the solution.

The Sensonics range of industry proven high quality transducers, equipment and services include:-

    PROTECTING INDUSTRYWORLDWIDE

Frequency Response down to 0.1HzAcceleration Sensitivities up to 50V/gVelocity Sensitivities up to 2000V/m/sDynamic Range >120dBLinearity better than 0.1%Hermetically SealedCross Axis Sensitivity

  • The SA series of seismic safety switches are fundamentally triaxial vibration detection devices, suitable for theprotection of vulnerable structures from ground bornevibration events. The unit features three high sensitivitylow noise seismometers in combination with high integrityalarm circuitry mounted in a robust weatherproof steelenclosure. The series are seismically qualified and featurean optional 2 out of 3 voting system.

When the vibration signal on any axis exceeds the setalarm threshold, the seismic alarm relays are activated, permitting further alarm processing for the safe shutdownof equipment. The switch can also be configured toprovide a robust current loop output for each of the threeaxes of detection representing the measured seismicwaveforms.

Utilising the SP4 seismic transducer permits full in-servicetesting and performance verification.

SA SERIES OF SEISMIC SAFETY SWITCHES

  • Sensonics are the leading supplier ofSeismic Monitoring and Protection systemsto the UK Nuclear Industry. We offer arange of equipment, which can be scaled tomeet the most complex requirements.Integrity and robustness is key to oursystem concept, offering protected powersupply configurations, custom indicationpanels, as well as alarm voting racks suitablefor safety critical applications. The systemsprovide a secure and extremely dependableseismic alarm to the site operational staff, allowing rapid shutdown of plant processesin a controlled manner.

The key system components areas follows:-

    NUCLEAR INFRASTRUCTUREPROTECTION

Voting Rack - Offering multi-channel ‘two out of three’ alarm voting.Utilising either robust electromechanical devices or triplicated programmablelogic with self-fault diagnosis.

Recorder – Robust PC with embedded operating system, contains on boardnon-volatile memory for program operation and event data storage.

Annunciator – For local alarm indication and reset facilities. Key operatedinterlocks and alarm defeat facilities provide additional system robustness.

Calibrator – Activates individual transducer self test facility for completesystem integrity check.

UPS – Typically configured in a dual redundant PSU configuration andavailable with various hold up times dependant on system load.

Qualifications - Seismic qualification to IEEE Std 344-1987, EMC approvalto Def Stan 59-41

  • Through development of our establishedtechnologies proven in the nuclear industry, incombination with our sensor expertise,Sensonics can offer smart solutions for thevibration monitoring of civil structures.Thisincludes facilities to meet the environmentalstandards required for both building and humanvibration recording, to BS7385, BS6472 and DIN 4150.

Available with alarm voting for shutdownapplications, the system offers maximumflexibility with remote access to view event dataonline and configure system parameters.

  • Sensonics can offer a number of software solutions for the capture and analysisof seismic event data, providing analysis in both the time and frequency domains.Embedded operating systems can be supplied to cater for the most severeapplications, as well as protected processor and data storage configurations.

Inherent in our software systems are facilities to configure multiple alarm levels, setup alarm logic, adjust recording period (pre and post trigger), define alarmaction and self-test. Customised software solutions to meet bespoke systemrequirements can be generated from our standard solutions.

    The Complete Solution

From our offices in the UK, Sensonics can offer ‘through life’ systemsupport in addition to robust seismic system supply. This includes:-

  • The Willmore MkIII range of Seismometersare velocity sensing devices suitable forfield, vault or observatory use. Available inboth broadband and short periodconfigurations, the MkIII sets a standardthat is hard to beat.

The mass is a permanent magnetsuspended on ligament springs, whichachieves frictionless axial movement.Theoutput is derived from two coils fixed tothe frame, one at each end of the mass.Auxiliary coils are provided for feedbackand calibration. The natural period ofoscillation of the mass is adjustable so thatthe instrument can be optimally matchedto the required operating conditions.

The broadband response is achieved byadding a low noise capacitive displacementtransducing system to the basic MkIIIsuspension.A current proportional to themass displacement is fed back to the‘moving coil’ to maintain the mass atequilibrium. Adjustable electronic feedbackdamping is included to give the user, besides the noise reduction of thetechnique, an instrument capable ofdetecting earth motion from the micro-seismic to the strong motion range.
